I hadn't noticed this until now, but apparently they replaced the old "enter how much you want to pay" field with a twitchy slider bar.

Yeah, the slide bar sucks. It doesn't look like it, but if you click on the green square with the price that changes when you move the slide bar, it allows you type what you want to pay there. Type what you want then click somewhere on the screen for the slide bar to change.

Oh. I had clicked on it then used the arrow keys to adjust it where I wanted it. Options are nice. :D

Humble Sid Meier Bundle.

For $1

Civilization 3 Complete
Civilization 4 Complete
Ace Patrol
Ace Patrol Pacific Skies
Railroads

Average

Civilization 5 and DLC

$15
Civilization 5 Brave New World DLC

How is Civilization 5? I've only played the first and second game. Should I just pay $1 and ignore the fifth one or does that much actually change in these future revisions?

*edit*

Lots of people were paying $20 for it while I was watching the bundle sales and it went up a couple of cents so I thought I might as well get it now.

Doh! Looks like I messed up and missed out on the Humble Weekly Sale with all of the roguelike games. I'm unsure if I want to get the Codemaster games but I'm semi-tempted. As for the Sid Meier bundle, I might just have to get that so I can get the Gods & Kings expansion for my Civ V copy I bought when it came out and never opened. :ass:

Are any of those CIV games not stomped under the boot of the DRM frontend known as Steam? I know Civ5 is a lost cause, but I'm curious about the other two. I miss playing the game, the original was a favorite and #2 wasn't too bad but I can't get that stuff running in Win7 64bit which sucks balls (same with Sim City Classic but I have Micropolis for that at least.)

Nevermind saw the red fine print well down the page. I'm out. :( If anyone ever learns out how to hack out steam support I'd be up for some Civ5, the others you can get at used shops cheap still.

Some Steam games are DRM free, you just have to download them through the Steam client. Maybe someone else knows if Civilization 3 and 4 are DRM free. My ISP has an internet usage cap and I'm not interested in playing either right now.

I bought Civ IV in a DRM-free form from Gamefly, so it seems safe to assume that it is not integrated with Steam.

This weeks deal is a clone of an old Humble Bundle with an addition.

For $1+:
Psychonauts + both OSTs
Costume Quest + OST
Stacking + OST

For $6+:
Brutal Legend + OST (game, not tracks)

For (as of this post) $16.74+:
Spacebase DF-9 (Early Access)

Have everything but Spacebase. If that comes down, I might spring on the set, get a few gift codes out of the deal.

Edit: Looks like this is going along with this years Amnesia Fortnight.

Worth looking into. 2012's produced the (still in production) Massive Chalice and SpaceBase DF-9. Looks like Pendleton Ward is going to work on a game too.

What's the problem with Steam? I mean, if you're worried about having to be online all the time, Steam's offline mode received an upgrade recently and you don't have to be online all the time to play stuff as long as you log in before going offline.

It's worth a try to pay $1 and see if this is one of the DRM free games. If not, big deal, it was only $1 for four games.

Most older games that didn't require any sort of DRM when originally released that are later added onto Steam don't have any DRM required. So you can go to your Steam library, right click on the game, go to properties, local files, browse local files, and more than likely play it from there without being required to open Steam again.

Unless you're going to buy a copy and share it with all your friends, what's the point in not getting it on Steam if it's cheapest there? Because Steam might not be running in 20-30 years? If it's not running in 30 years, then who cares really. You lost $1. You know what I'm going to do in 20-30 years if I can't play digital games I paid for. I'm going to download them illegally. I mean, what PC game can you not download? Many of them are older than 30 years and can still be found. Will anything be different 30 years from now? Probably not. Infact, the games that are new now will be just as easy to find as the 30 year old games are now.

Steam is as much of the fact it requires the app to be loaded to use the games, as much as it's just there as a control issue. I have an account and I erased the program over a year and a half ago, maybe two years back now. I kept seeing these bundles and grabbing stuff wasting some paypal bucks on shit I wouldn't even use more than once. And there's a good bit of things on there I'd prefer to have a real stand alone install for I can throw on my backup drive and keep a copy of that's detached from its clutches. GoG and Steam have some games both share, and in any of those I've wanted I bought from GoG. I think that pretty much says it, and if you see my point that's fine, and if not, it's still how I'd rather deal with things.

In the case of Civ 5 I want the game to be detached, it's that simple. I find it angering I can go to the store, buy a physical copy of the game, and be not allowed to use it without installing a third party app that has nothing to do with it other than to control what people do. Same goes with Terraria and that one does have a UK disc that's free of it so it's clearly possible to have a choice if allowed.

A bunch of old games still require Steam to run. Example: Hitman Blood Money. It'l detect that you don't have Steam and crash.

Devs can take the time to add Steam but never bother to fix the bugs...

Okay. No need to go nuts over it. I have a lot of games on Steam, but I also have a lot of games on GOG. I kinda get where you're coming from but at the same time I can't agree with you because I live in a country where it's impossible to get most of these games retail. And I prefer having to deal with Steam than a stupid disc in my drive.

And if Steam bugs you so much, you can download patches that remove the Steam requirement for most games. Pay for your license, install the game, install the patch, never touch Steam again. I guess. Whatever. Civ sucks anyway. :P

I agree with the whole, physical copy thing, but whether it's digital or it's digital on Steam is that it's still digital. As Kitsune said, you can download a patch to not require Steam to ever be running that you can add to each game. Or you can changes settings so that Steam runs in offline mode. It uses a low amount of resources and it has features that I like, such as adding non Steam programs to the library and chat/voice chat client that is usable while in game without the use of another program. Mostly, I like how quick and organized Steam is.

It turns out people don't really care about whether or not they actually "own" the game as long as it's insanely cheap/likely to be discounted if you wait long enough. That is one of the most important things Steam has proved, as well as completely singlehandedly making PC gaming viable. That and GOG is making classic PC games possible to be played with no fuss, as well as popularizing DRM-free, which is of course good and desirable.

Loving the Sid Meier bundle.

Dark Fall and its sequel are apparently not too bad – or at least that's what people said about them when they first came out twelve years ago. Looks like I paid a buck for Safecracker a month or two ago because it looked like that was about what it was worth.

So what's so terrible about Jack Keane?

Discreet?

Oh, you mean a normal one. I have a Radeon HD 6850. There's no reason for it to overheat. The game's probably just very poorly optimized, I can run lots of other games that are more taxing than that without problems.

WE SHALL NOT ENDURE THE KEANENING AGAIN.

Jack Keane became the GOG forum's little injoke. Back in November there was a promo where there were only a certain amount of copies of games available at a discounted price.

Jack Keane 2 was the slowest moving game in the sale. It got so bad people rioted in the GOG forums. It took them six hours to sell 50 copies.

We got Keaned and we're not taking it anymore.

Between Genesis, PS3, and PC, I already own everything except for Alpha Protocol, Hell Yeah Wrath of the Dead Rabbit, Typing of the Dead, and Medieval 2 Total War. I'll atleast pay $1, but not sure if I'll pay another five for the other two. I'm only really interested in Medieval 2 but I really don't think it's worth $5 for a game I won't touch for years. Alpha Protocol has gone clean down to $1.50 in the past on its own.

Word of warning, mouse mode sucks until you get a decent gun. It took me a long time to kill the first boss.

Rhythm game bundle this week.

For $1+:
Symphony + OST
Sequence
BIT.TRIP RUNNER + OST

For $6+:
Audiosurf
Beat Hazard Ultra + OST
Retro/Grade + OST

Audiosurf and Beat Hazard Ultra are really good games. Retro/Grade and BIT.TRIP RUNNER are "your mileage may vary" type of thing.

Sequence is a really cool DDR+Action RPG game. I recommend it.

Though the music WILL get to you after a while since it's so repetitive.

Evoland was really short. Took me 6 hours to get all the achievements and beat the game while collecting everything. But it was a really amazing 6 hours, and still well worth $6 for that alone.

From what I've seen of it, yeah, seems like a good deal. The other games aren't bad either. If you're willing to ignore the microtransaction aspect of it, Knights of Pen & Paper is fun.

I own all those games. I haven't purchased a Humble Bundle in over a month. I didn't purchase that Sega bundle for $1 afterall. This one and the Sega one were kind of good, but overall they've been really disappointing.

Hopefully they start putting better games soon or games that haven't already been on there. I'm not going to play them, but I want to waste more money.

Merde! How did they manage to pick one of the tiny handful of games I actually bought on GOG?

How is Shadow Man? Seems some people on Steam are still giving it a thumbs-up.

The Humble Daily Bundle starts today with the Humble Deep Silver Rebundle. If you've already bought the Deep Silver bundle then you'll already have these games, or atleast the ones for $1. The last Humble Bundle though had Sacred Citadel in the $1 package as well, so you're actually not getting as much as they offered previously for paying $1. Doesn't matter. Sacred Citadel sucks anyways. The best game in this bundle imo is Sacred 2 Gold. Definitely worth paying $1 for if you don't own it.

For $1
Saints Row the Third
Saints Row 2
Risen 2
Sacred 2 Gold

For average
Dead Island
Saints Row the Third The Full DLC Package
Metro 2033
Risen
Sacred Citadel

For $9
Dead Island Riptide Complete

Very much worth it, a great horror classic, though a tad spoofy and platformy at times. Very much worth playing and definitely worth more than a dollar, if I didn't already own it would be a no brainer for me.
