So, this is new. Instead of just a $5 bundle of games, they have a weekly sale where you can get the game and some other neat stuff as well.

The first one is Bastion.

For $1, Unlock Bastion on Steam and DRM-free downloads.

For minimum, Digital Soundtrack (MP3/FLAC), Bastion Digital Art Pack, Bastion Sheet Music, Bastion iPhone/Android Ringtones.

For $25+, Bastion Bandana, Bastion Original, Soundtrack CD, Bastion Postcard, Transistor Postcard.

That's pretty awesome. Hope weekly really means weekly.

I honestly don't know how I feel about this. I get kind of a sour taste in my mouth like I did with the Humble THQ bundle. I hope they continue distributing bundles along with this. If they stop that practice, it'll be a big shame, and I'll be pretty bummed out. Humble bundle was one of the best things to happen, EVER.

As far as Bastion goes; if you don't already have it, it's worth way more than $1, and even if you do, the inclusion of the soundtrack for about $3 would make this worthy as well. Though unless you're really wanting to support the developers, the $25 package is a bit lacking. A hard copy of the soundtrack, a bandana, and a few postcards doesn't seem worth it.

I'm sort of hoping this replaces the bundle for a while. Many of the bundles have repeat games in them and I'm sure I'm not the only one who pauses to consider if the remaining games in a bundle I don't have are worth the $5 or so I'm going to spend (the previous bundle is an example of one I found not worth it, simply because I already had most of the games). These weekly ones will allow them to break up the bundles into individual sales with perks. I'd pay $3 for Botanica if it was offered for that, as an example.

Doesn't make sense. If only one game you want is in the bundle, then it's worth the 5-6 dollars you'll pay since you would have to pay close to same amount elsewhere. You'll get the soundtracks as well, and the games are free of DRM. Last bundle had shank 2, and even though I already had the game, I would have paid the 6 dollars JUST for that soundtrack. Considering that most commercially available game soundtracks go for around $9.99 on amazon, you're getting a good deal.

Plus, you get extra steam keys for repeat games; I usually just give those to my family members, so nothing really goes to waste. You're also looking at one game for $3 vs 8 or so games for $7. You spend way more with the one game a week.

Subjective. The only person who can decide if a game is a good deal for me is me. If I can't find a game at a price I want, I'll either wait until I can find the game at the price I want or just pirate it (or maybe borrow it, depends on the situation).

Sound tracks are usless to me. Sure, I'm getting a financial deal on something that normally costs $9+, but if I don't want it what am I really gaining?

Situational and will be different for everyone. Everyone I know that would be interested in a code for any of the bundle games no longer needs it, as they bought the bundle just like I did.

You're also looking at one game for $3 vs 8 or so games for $7. You spend way more with the one game a week.

You're assuming I'm going to be jumping on every sale every week, which just isn't going to happen. Additionally, your math is off. The lowest price I can pay is $1 for the game and the game is all I need. So it's 8 or so games for $8 (at one game a week) vs. 8 or so games for $7 all at once. Given that the difference in price is so small, I have to make my purchase based on the game selection.

I also like this one game a week because each game you get is $1 minimum. Which I won't lie, I'm going to pay $1 since I dislike digital and haven't played any of the games I got on any of the bundles except two. Plus I'm cheap. This way I'll only pay for the games I want. If I already own the game or the game doesn't interest me, then I'll pass on it, but if it's something that I'm actually interested in, then I'll get it. Also no paying the average to get specific games either.

I'm not really sure that I get the point. If a person wanted just that one game then wouldn't they have likely already picked it up from Steam or directly from the developer?

Also, I can understand why a developer would want their game featured in a bundle but why would they want to sell their game this way and basically compete against their own stores?

You'd think that, but you'd be underestimating how cheap people can be. Bastion looks nice, but I wasn't going to pay $15 for it (specifically because it's a digital download, I don't like paying more than $10 at the most for a game I can't even physically touch). I got it via an Indie Bundle for something like $4. There is the possibility that someone might be trying buying it as a cheap gift.

It's a strange quark of digital downloads, I find.

So, new weekly sale is up.

$1 for Darksiders (with OST) & Red Faction: Armageddon (with OST & Path of War DLC).
Beat the average for Darksiders II (with OST) & Red Faction: Guerrilla.

https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly

Sorta tempted on this one, specifically for cheap ass Darksiders II, although I'd prefer it on the PS3 and I'm not sure my PC can even run the game.

If screen tearing bothers you I'd recommend getting the PC version. Also, Darksiders 2 isn't that great anyways. It's a larger game, but the combat is worse and the story is boring.

Minimum for:

Kinda interesting sale this week:

For $1:
Flotilla
Atom Zombie Smasher (+ OST)
Air Forte (+OST)

For minimum:
Thirty Flights of Loving (+ OST)

Flotilla doesn't look particularly interesting and Air Forte reminds me of the educational games I played in elementary school. Atom Zombie Smasher isn't bad, but it's been given out a few different times in other bundles so I imagine many buyers already have it. Thirty Flights of Loving is a kind of platforming point-and-click that can be completed in 10 or so minutes. Everyone I know that's played it has recommended it (supposedly the Steam version comes with a copy of the first game).

With all the recent gaming news being bad news, there's thankfully some good news. The Humble Weekly Sale is back and this time with Alan Wake and Alan Wake American Nightmare. This time there doesn't seem to be any sort of pay the average, so spending $1 will get you both games and a lot of extra content. If they add some additional content, just pay the extra to get that too.

Cornelius
05-22-2013, 07:28 PM

Humble Bundle 8 includes Hotline Miami if you pay atleast the average. That's all you need to know. If you own Hotline Miami already, this bundle also includes Awesomenauts, Little Inferno, Capsized, Thomas Was Alone, Dear Esther, and also if you pay the average, Proteus.

Now this is a deal I can't miss out on. I already own Wallace & Gromit, Sam & Max (all three series) and Back to the Future on GOG, so I'm not too bothered about those games. The thing which caught my attention however was the Hector games which I have been meaning to buy for quite some time... and now I finally can play them.

That's what the humble bundle is for after all. Placing games that sold well and are no longer really getting anymore money so for the user to pay what they would like to pay.

And yeah. Only two soundtracks on this bundle. I just checked the link.

This weeks is kinda weak and only one of the games activates on Steam:

For $1+:
Anomaly Warzone Earth
Anomaly Warzone Earth: Mobile Campaign
Sleepwalker's Journey
Funky Smugglers

For minimum:
Anomaly Korea
Anomaly 2 Model for 3D printing (this isn't a game, it's a blueprint file for a 3D printer)

That model blueprint is admittedly neat, but tower defense games aren't just my thing.

Watched Youtube videos and the games don't look bad, so in for $1 atleast. Not so much interested in paying the average for the Men of War game as I don't like that theme and King's Bounty Crossworlds is a stand alone expansion for the previous game according to Metacritic. Hopefully there's a lot of cheap people that drive the average down. If it gets below $2.50 I'll match it then.

AVOID THIS BUNDLE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

You see all those games? You'd think, well, that's a nice deal right? Well, it's not. A large chunk of those games have an insane amount of downloadable content. Crusader Kings II alone has $40 worth. Magicka has several expansions, too. I thought the EA Humble Bundle was bad because it included games that had loads of DLC (Battlefield 3 and Sims 3) but this is an outright blatant cash-in excuse to get people to buy DLC by the bucketload.

One is an RTS game and is, therefore, automatically horrible.
Two more are strange platformers that looks alright.
The last one is a block matching puzzle game that is automatically horrible for crime of not being Tetris Attack.
The other two cost more an a buck, so who cares about them, right?

Knowing our luck, it'll be Trine, Shank, Shank 2, the original Eets, and the rest of Frozenbyte's games.

I bought this, despite my dislike of Phil Fish (and me saying that I would never buy his game, in this same forum, months ago) and I did activate Fez on my Steam account. He only got like 72 cents out of my payment so I don't feel too bad for him. The other people who made the game, though...

How I hate it when I've already bought all the games in a bundle. Of course, they were all bought on sale, and I guess it's nice to support the devs, but nonetheless, I hate it when that happens.

So, how are Fez and Brutal Legend "indie" games, again? Does "indie" just mean "made by a creator with an ego massive enough to have its own orbit" now?

I don't like the term indie since it doesn't mean anything the way they're using it. Any developer that funds their own games is independent. Since the developers who work for them are a part of them, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, etc, are "indie" developers.

Thatgamecompany is considered indie, yet they received money from Sony to develop games and Sony has published games for them, games like Shank and Shank 2 were funded and published by EA, among others.

It doesn't mean anything the way it's being used but it's constantly being thrown around, so I've given up and just started calling them indie developers also. Which the way people look at them are developers that aren't big names that have that have multi billion dollar companies behind them.

The other thing is how indie games are praised simply for being indie games, and many indie games in my opinion are merely okay. There hasn't been an indie game that I've played that has interested me as much as most larger budget titles. Indie games were overrated when Microsoft was pulling exclusivity for them, Sony's doing the same and it doesn't make them less overrated.

I really want to complain about Sony because it really makes me want to facepalm because Sony always acts like this about everything they start promoting. Regardless if they're the first ones to the party or not, it's like they drop everything else and promote what we don't give a shit about. Right now it's indie this, indie that, here's an indie there's an indie, everywhere there's a fucking indie. They did it with Vita when the system just came out and they forced touch controls on us on literally every single game even if it was something that could do without touch controls, or if there were perfectly good standard controls they could have used as alternate controls. Last but not least, they did it with the Move when it was first introduced, going out of the way to develop and try to shove shit like Wonderbook down everyones throats when clearly we didn't give a damn. It'd be nice if sometimes Sony would get a fucking clue.

This is the reason the Vita is failing. They had someone talking to third party developers to get games for Vita and asked the fanbase what we wanted. Instead of listening to what the fans wanted to see, hey, here's yet another fucking indie game we didn't ask for to be ported from the PS3 to Vita. No retail games to put on shelves and get some more sales. To show developers the system is actually selling so they'll be more inclined to not release just ports all day every day on it. Now they have this third party development and localization team. A company within Sony. What's the first two games they're developing to put on the Vita? Borderlands 2 and Epic Mickey 2. Two games no one gives two shits about because if we did, we'd play them on the PS3 or 360. Once again ignoring the very loud fanbase who constantly request games like Final Fantasy Type 0, the Tales games, and many other Japanese games that Americans would actually like yet haven't been localized over here. It's like they completely ignore what their fans ask them for. It took Nintendo quite awhile, but even they listened to their fans with Xenoblade atleast, and guess what. The game sold well so Nintendo is developing X for the Wii U. There's a reason shit doesn't sell well when you bring your fans something we don't even fucking ask for.

Okay. Rant over. Went from indies over to how Sony is being fucking stupid, because right now all they're thinking of is indie bullshit.

*edit*

No offense to indie devs, because while your games are decent. They're decent. That's it. They don't offer the value most full retail games do when it comes to gameplay. Some games do or look like they do. Most don't. As interested as I was in Retro City Rampage for example, I finally started to play it a while ago and the game is incredibly boring. The guy put a lot of work into it sure, but the only thing I really liked about the game was the Bit.Trip mini game in the arcade. The missions were poorly done, you could see where the dialogue tried to be funny by making references that most of us would notice, but the dialogue just sucked and was yet another mark against the game, and killing pedestrians and cops became immediately boring. It's like the dev tried too hard to introduce NES style graphics and 80s references that he forgot to add a good game.

Me too. Paid a dollar for most of the Serious Sam games, I think I got the Duke Nukem game for free on GOG, and really don't care about any of the others.

I own Duke Nukem on GOG as well, but this is the "Megaton Edition". And Shadow Warrior's worth tacking onto the backlog as well.

Humble 9 just added:

Bastion
Limbo
A Virus Named Tom
MOTHERCLUCKING Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken!

Rocketbirds is a short but fun action platformer shootem up. It was released on PSN a few years back and it's pretty goddamn awesome.

Rarr. Bought that one too quite some time ago. I don't have A Virus Named Tom, and haven't heard of it before either.

I've fancied Shadow Warrior for a while, and Hard Reset and Serious Sam are a nice bonus. More tempted by this than the main bundle.

These are hardcore space sim / management games. They have a very tough learning curve but are amongst the best ones in the genre.
