Follow up. Does anyone know what kind of screw driver you need to open up 5-Screw NES carts? I checked, and the screws are different then the 2-Screw carts. Will any small flat head screw driver do? Or is there a special tool?
Yes, it's just a regular flat head screw. I remember years ago we had a member here who swore up and down that it was a Phillips head screw in there. We finally got him to post a picture of the screw in question and sure enough, the usual flat head early NES screw. Then he swore up and down the Phillips head screwdriver worked fine. LOL Arrogance, eternally.

This reminds me of an odd story. For years there was a group dedicated to documenting how Corvettes came off the assembly line "originally" from the factory. Down to the nut and bolt, to the very last screw. They were so convinced of their correctness that anyone arguing against them were completely ignored even when documentation of the originality of their vehicles were available it was ignored. Finally as a key-note speaker one year at the annual convention for these guys they got a guy who built vettes for GM for like 35 years. He blew their minds during his address. He was like "um, do you guys think that we'd stop production if we ran out of this paticular style of bolt? or do you think i'd just reach into the next bin over and grab the next available style of bolt and keep attaching bumpers?". Suddenly their guide went from the most important thing on the planet to not so perfect after all and they STILL insisted this guy was lying. "arrogance eternally" indeed.

Finally have some finds. I visited my parents last week and hit up my old stomping grounds. Man has that flea market really went down the tubes.

I honestly can't remember prices (guess I'm getting old) but nothing was crazy expensive or crazy cheap. Just stuff I don't already have and the pickings were slim otherwise. Battletoads is for sale if anyone is interested.
NES - Castelian
NES - Tombs & Treasure
NES - Treasure Master
GEN - Battletoads
I also went to Half Price Books today but game stuff was pretty much a desert. Over in their miscellaneous section I did find something interesting though...

Galactic Patrol Lensman model kits from the mid 1980's. Although available in limited quantities via mail order, these never really had any penetration outside of Japan. All are complete and unbuilt but are free of their bags with the exception of half of the Grappler and S.T. kit. Most work done are the identification labels applied to the base of the Striker-I and the Cycroader-II. All have their instructions and sticker sheets where applicable and the Picronia Dem and Sig has its backdrop cardboard sheet. Sadly there was no Britannia II kit but I did leave behind a Boskone Fighter and the Nosha-Bucaming. The Boskone Fighter was missing parts and the Nosha-Bucaming was complete but partially assembled. I went through the other kits to identify all pieces were unclipped and included while in the store.
These can be worth some serious cash, I've seen the Striker-I sell for over $100 and the Cycroader-II break $60 easy. I'm shocked they were undisturbed in the store but then again I think I'm one of like ten people outside of Japan that really like the Lensman anime.

I recently got a cart of BT-DD for genesis so I've got some interest in acquiring a cart of the original. My paypal's not usable right now, but in a month and a few days from now it'll be up and running again. If nobody else has bought it by then, I may send you a PM about it.

Craigslist was good to me today. This was $40 for the lot:
Sega Master System (all the hookups, two controllers)
NES (Hookups, Jeopardy game, controller, and duck hunt gun)
Sega Genesis (Hookups, two controllers, Jungle Strike CIB and loose Sonic the Hedgehog)
Excellent day of hunting. Every now and again you can find a good deal...

So this is a pretty funny story. Imagine going to a flea market and finding a box on the ground with all this in it. You'd probably shit right? well it was a bit heartbreaking:
-Valkyrie Profile- case and disk 1 only
-Legend of Mana- disk only
-Breath of Fire IV manual
-RPG Maker- complete
-Lunar 2 eternal blue- inner case, disk 3, and map only
-Tales of Destiney - case only (fuck)
-Thousand Arms- missing manual
-Brave Fencer Musashi- missing instructions and FF8 demo
-Alundra 2- case only
I searched every CD case the guy had throughout his entire table, and could not find the missing disks or manuals for these games. The good part out of it was that it only cost $10 for all this.

I think the only parts I'm going to hunt is Valkyrie Profile. The guy said he was going to be back next Sunday too, so I'm going back to see if he either brought more stuff he didn't have last Sunday, or to double check in case I missed something....because to me its totally worth it.

Ristar GG: $7.75
Chiki Chiki Boys GEN: $7.11
Inspector Gadget SNES: $6.25
Radical Rex GEN: $5.45
Oh yeah, here's the poster that came inside radical rex. In great condition (I don't even think it was ever opened before), but it's not the same as the one I was able to find online, so I'm guessing that was the EU version:

Yesterday, in another thread, I mentioned that I had walked into the local Goodwill and found a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Genesis priced at $8 behind glass. Its possible at that moment my love for Thrifting died.
But, with no real reason to, I walked into the same Goodwill today and found this...
http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/3158/goodwillsp.jpg
Red Gameboy Advance SP $13 - Works great. No power adapter though, but my DS adapter works just fine. I've needed one of these very badly. I hate playing Advance games on the DS. The button configuration is just... off.
Yoshi Island - Super Mario Advanced 3 (GBA) $0 - This was inside the SP, not seperately priced. SCOOOOOORE!
Faith in Thrifting... RESTORED.

Hey kids, it's your old pal Dreadstar, back in the finds game after several months of not really looking and not really finding. Family, work, you all know how it goes.
Anyway, tonight at about 830 the old find nerve started twitching. Spider sense. Whatever you want to call it. Went to my local Goodwill, just before closing, and saw a stack of about 40 NES carts. Plucked these out, not that what I left behind was all that terrible:
Classic Concentration
Circus Caper
Double Dare
Family Feud
Gilligan's Island
High Speed
Klax
Ms Pac-man (Tengen)
Pinball Quest
Short Order / Eggsplode
Solitaire
Thunder & Lightning
Videomation
All R4 and above, all stuff I didn't already have, all cheap. Me likey.

I was quite excited about today's finds, but now I'm a little bummed. I was convinced I didn't have Short Order//Eggsplode, so finding a nice boxed copy was awesome. Turns out I do have the game already.

For 2.99 I won't be too sad, I guess.
Chrono cross was 1.99, pristine discs but the back art has water damage.
2.99 GBASP ac adapter
Guide 1.99
ink 1.99
darts 1.99
Also, a week or two ago I found a couple 2600 joysticks and paddle set all bundled together for a couple bucks. Oh, and the 1978(?) mattel soccer game for a couple bucks.

FLEA MARKET..
Here’s some of the highlights of my day..
The day of ridiculousness ..
and just game related.
Filthy, not tested By video game only seller(sure it doesn’t work)
.... Turbo Express with TV Tuner $75.00 FIRM..
Silver GBA SP $60.00 No Charger-untested..
Xbox 360 Console Trashed $150.00

The best of the day was:
I walked up to a vendors items, about 15 loose SNES and Genesis Games laid out on a blanket with other crap..
One game was a Mega Drive Game that I was going to buy.
.The vendor walks up says $13.00 in a deep accent..
I ask,$13.00 for what?..He says $13 for each game..I get down and look DEEP at these games..all common excemt the mega drive that don’t know what it was anyway....I ask ,$13 Each,he says yes,13 each..He says that someone just bought 15 of them for $13 each from him...
Now that is just a blatant lie by a scumbag..
...I ask,why $13.00,where do you come up with the number $13.00..He turned quick..seems I’m not the first person who though his prices were ass.

Xenosaga II(PS2) $4.50
Silent Hill 2(PS2) $4.50
Xbox 360 random bag of DLC games and points $5
Megaman X7(PS2) $4
The Orange Box(360) $4
Xbox Kiosk Disc $13
I grabbed the first two PS2 games at a flea market. Megaman X7 and The Orange Box were both from Goodwill. I took them but passed on copies of Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty 2 and 3 at the same Goodwill. I found the random bag of 360 games and points at a flea market. One of the games won't play since it's from Midway and all of those got taken down years ago once they went out of business. There are 1100 Microsoft points that I know are good and another 1600 point card that may or may not be activated. And although I couldn't believe it I actually found an Xbox kiosk demo I didn't have, although it's really just another variant for my collection.

Bunch of Magazines 29 cents each
Dreamcast A/V cables $7
Jimi Hendrix cd $3
Uncharted(PS3) Japanese import free with $10 certificate
Grand Theft Auto IV(360) $5
Prozaca Nation dvd $4
Everytime I go to Savers I leave with atleast a few magazines. They're nice and cheap and I can always toss them when I'm done. I needed the a/v cables to test a rare Dreamcast demo to know if it was legit or not and it was. I picked up the Hendrix cd, GTA IV and the dvd from Goodwill. I snagged Uncharted online for much cheaper than what everyone else was selling it for.

Smallville seasons 1-4 $4 each
Resident Evil book 50 cents
Uncharted 2(PS3) Japanese import $10
I sold all of my seasons of Smallville last year, expecting to get the complete series collection but I still haven't gotten around to that yet. So these were a nice surprise at Goodwill. Thats also where I got the Resident Evil book. Uncharted 2 came from another seller online and it was weird how close I found these two from two different sellers for right around the same price.

Slow day at the flea today... Galaga (7800) for $1. Went to the local comic shop and found Desert Falcon (7800) for $4, Artillery Duel/Chuck Norris Superkicks double-ended for $6, and Mr. Do's Castle (2600)... for 99 CENTS. @_@
Better believe I pounced on that one. Seems demand has dropped significantly from what it was before (definitely not going for $250 anymore, it seems), but still quite a lucky find!
A pic, because it did happen:

Gamestore finds:
Elemental Master (GEN) loose: $7 tax included
Mickey Mania (GEN) CiB: $7 tax included
SNES AV Cables: $5
Will take pics later.
I'm aware I overpaid on the AV cables a bit considering their availability online for $4 but I needed them and It's very hard for me to buy online as of recent.

Today at the flea market there was a dealer selling "recent magazines" for $1 each. I got some really expensive UK imports like Prog Magazine, a Whitesnake one, a couple UK gamer mags, punkish fashion, etc which are obvious discards from Barnes & Nobles as I've never seen a normal news stand with these. Anyway, much to my surprise they had game guides as well! I got 10 Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (still stealed with Gamestop prices), 2 Pokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver and one of some Xbox 360 RPG who's name I've forgotten.
Also picked up a vintage 80s Walkman Deluxe WM-3 in box for $5. Goes for over $100 on ebay.

Today I went to a Flea Market I've never been before, in the Syracuse, NY area, while visiting family. I was pretty excited about being able to check out a new Flea Market for a change. Unfortunately it ended up very slim pickings. There was one reseller there with a bunch of stuff, that all seemed very over priced. I did find a NES Game Genie for $5 there, but at the time I felt it was a little too much. But when I got home and price check it, it actually looked like a good price in retrospect. Oh well, you live and learn. Other then that I saw a dirty Atari 2600 with a bunch of common games that they guy offered me $20 for the lot on. But I passed because I'm honestly not sure if I care about Atari enough, and I honestly wasn't sure if $20 was too high). Overall a bit of a disappointment, honestly can't wait to get back to my regular stomping grounds next week.
All told the only game I found this whole weekend was a copy of Kirby's Dreamland 2 for the Game Boy for $8, that I got at a Syracuse area used game store. It was a game I really loved from my teen years, but I stupidly sold in a garage sale years and years ago (along with copies of Kirby's Dreamland and Super Mario 2: The Six Golden Coins. I'm a dummy). I wanted a new copy something fierce, and $8 bucks was the best price I've seen on it.

Ill take pics later but I picked up Air Zonk and aero blasters at half price books for $10 a piece.
Starfox assault for 7.99
Snk vs capcom card fighters for DS 4.99
Fracture for PS3 4.99
Mortal kombat Armageddon ps2 4.99 sealed
The highlight was definitely the turbo grafx games. :)

Not bad. From my latest finds such a BIN would have to be Shadow Hearts Covenant disk 2. Assuming I keep the game.

Price was good on this stuff.
Hmmm, not naming the price means it wasn't a deal or you'd be all "OMG look what I got for $XXX" ;)
It is a nice haul though.

I happened upon a sealed copy of Star Ocean: Second Evolution for PSP that was marked down to $9. It's been a while since I've come across a find. :)

Zhime figure $5
007 Goldeneye(N64) $3
Yoshi's Story(N64) $3
Mario Tennis(N64) $3
Duke Nukem 64(N64) $3
All of this stuff was from two different Goodwills. It's been a very slow week for finds. I'm planning on hitting some community yard sales on the weekend so hopefully I find something decent.

So I found this yesterday.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2013-04-24_zps94469956.jpg
This is a Japanese R2 DVD of Street Fighter. It was brand new, but I already opened it. This is a Sample version - it has a sticker over the JAN code, and it has "SAMPLE - LOAN" written on the inner ring of the disc. It was in a box with at least fifteen other Japan-region DVDs that had the same marks and stickers on 'em, most were brand new - and another stack of promo R1 DVDs for various US movies and TV shows. It cost me $2, and of course, I can't watch it on an R1 DVD player, so I made a region-free disc instead. Ha ha. :P
Also, curious thing - apparently this came out on my birthday.

Oh snap, you poaching my territory?!
Was it the one near the cities north side, the Regional Market right next to Carousel Center Mall... er I mean Destiny USA? If so, yeah it's dried up quite a bit. I used to get some real good deals there 4-5 years ago, nowadays I rarely visit it more than once every other month.

Most R1 players have secret codes to change the region settings, if you set it to R0 it becomes region free. As long as a disc is NTSC it would be playable. Just a suggestion instead of having to copy a disc.

Not my DVD player. Since it's the DVD drive on my PC. :(

There is actually a way to do the same to a DVD drive. A simple google search will give you the steps.

It is a bit different with PC drives, usually they only allow a certain number of changes before they lock permanently to a specific region and you're stuck. You can't set the region to "0" either so there's no region free setting.
I guess you could try to find a cheap portable DVD player, those often have PAL capabilities so unlocking those allows worldwide compatibility. I was given a portable player for free but it's missing the remote which is needed to change the region code. Or you could just keep doing what you've already been doing and burn a new region free disc, or rip it to a video file since you're watching it on the PC anyway. :)

R2 DVD huh. I haven't gotten around to taking that one of mine seriously, it's from a Gundam game. Only player I tried gave a region error.

Unfortunately these steps don't apply to me because this particular DVD drive has firmware that does not have a Region-Free version. 1.03 does have one. 1.04? I'm screwed.

Also my PS2 couldn't read the burned disc. I had to use my Xbox. Watching the movie with Japanese audio is a trip.

You have a PS2 on hand? Action Replays can disable the region code check, you'll have to use the disc each time but you'll be able to play all NTSC DVDs. Just another option for you if you have an Action Replay or can find one cheap.

There's a small program for Windows that's called DVD Region Free. Guess what it does. :p Also, it just runs silently in the background, takes next to no resources, and works great. Used it for ages, but stopped when I got my new computer, because it doesn't have a disc drive at all. ;)

I used that years ago. It sucked. And I'm not installing a program for a -single DVD-. Thanks though.

What about using the program VLC? I have a few British DVDs that I watch on my Mac through VLC, never had any region problems with it (unlike the standard DVD Player app, which forces you to change the region up to five times before it locks it's settings).

I was going to ask the same thing,..he takes very nice organized pictures..
Nice Pick Ups..
I didn’t go picking today ,too busy..I’m stacking stuff up to take to the DP store for a trade in.
also waiting on reports of what my friends picked up
........................
I was greeted this morning by an angry ebay buyer,He blames me because his 12 year old Son binned an old Original Xbox Game of mine, but it won’t work on his Sons Xbox 360 Slim..
So he says this is my fault ....though I listed it as an original xbox game not a Xbox 360 game..
A wonderful start of a day..

Thanks! Im not a professional photographer but I do enjoy taking photos especially of video games and action figures. I hope you enjoyed them nonetheless. Speaking of the Genesis games, they are mostly common ones like Sonic 2, Sonic, Jurassic Park, Pitfall, Beauty and the beats, and sme sports titles. If you have Instagram, be sure to find me there by searching for famicomfreak. :)

Do you think this may work for a Windows 8 laptop? I have the Pokemon Chronicles R2 DVDs, and plan to order the Ace Attorney movie R4 from Australia. I love my Toshiba laptop with its nice big screen, and it would be nice to have another region-free option.
