Just had this on my mind so thought I'd put it out there. There are a few ways such as the various gameboy models themselves, the Super Game boy on the SNES, GBA compatible DS Models, Gamecube Player, perhaps others I can't think of and obviously not all methods work with all games.
I find when I'm at home I just use the Gameboy Player on my Gamecube. the only I time I actually use one of my GBA SP's is if I'm out for a bit or away on a trip. I just prefer playing all games on a tv screen with a GC controller and it supports all 3 Gameboy game formats.

Back in the day, either played them on Super Gameboy at home, or on the GB/C/A when the TV wasn't available or I was out.
Nowadays I just use my GBASP (the special NES edition one) if the need arises.

I typically use a backlit SP indoors, and a GBC or reflective SP outdoors.

Game Boy Light or backlight-modded GBA
Timing is screwed up on both SGB and GBPlayer, and I don't have an SGB2.

On my PSP.
So I don't have to take as many portables with me wherever I go and I don't have to pick and choose, I'll usually take my PSP or Vita with a PSP CFW kernel and my 3DS. There are very few GBA games that don't play well on the PSP, but when 99.9% of them do, the other 1% don't really matter unless I really want to play them, then I'll play them either on my GBA or my Gamecube.

GBA I'll play on my Micro, or the GB Player. That's it. I haven't had any GB/GBC games in over a year.
Before I got rid of them for the last time (I didn't hate the stuff, no time for it and spread too thin) I was using a GBA SP 'Brighter' model for the old stuff as the non-lit original hardware was fine for the period but it's just unacceptable going forward with the non-lighting, blur, pea green, dim+blur for low refresh rates, being dark and losing sight of stuff(gbc, and very much old gba original.)

Easy question, my backlit Game Boy Advance SP for it all. Once I got that, I haven't looked back. All my old Game Boys are just collectibles now, although my fiance likes to use them now and then.

on their respective consoles. My brother plays via emulation on his smartphone I just don't care for it

Nothing. I understand the appeal of handhelds, but I've never been a fan.

I think that's one of the reasons I like playing on the Gameboy Player on the Gamecube, it feels like playing on a console.

I don't know what it is,but when i was younger i enjoyed handhelds. These days i can't stand playing a video game on a small screen so the gb player is perfect for me.

Usually on a GBA SP, though for some GBC and GBA games where a larger screen is desirable, the GB Player is preferred. If I had a front-lit GBC, I would play it solely on that.

I play GBA games on my DS Lite. I actually don't play any of my GB or GBC games... and I probably have about 475 CIBs between those two!

Super Gameboy! Gotta love the extra features that the SGB gives you on early-mid '90's GB games. Too bad it can't play most of the GBC games though.

I always prefer to just be playing with the actual Game Boy its self, not on a TV. I bring my GBA to work everyday to play on my lunch break

Either one of my handhelds or my gameboy player. Like both.

PSP 3000. Seriously, the emulators for PSP are great, savestates, screenshots and the bigger screen make playing games on the original hardware a chore.
But if I'm gonna go with the original hardware, I like the GBA SP 2.0 best of all, closely followed by GB Player. The Super GameBoy is nice in a pinch, but the GB Player is almost always the better option unless you're playing one of the several dozen games that specifically use the Super GameBoy to enhance the game.

I use the GBA SP 2 or the Gameboy Player on a Gamecube.

If I actually have the game, Gameboy Pocket for anything pre-Color, standard model Color for anything during that era. If I don't actually own the game, VBA Wii version (via the Homebrew Channel).
