I have a phat SCPH 30001 R PS2 that I need the complete laser drive assy with the spindle motor. Does anyone know any place that sells them in the USA? If so where? I've searched all over with no luck and would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thank you.

i havent found much in the way of any US sellers for any sort of playstation, dreamcast or saturn drives, lasers ect.
how ever when ever i do they ccharge a fortune and generaly buy theirs from a supplier in china so why not cut out the middle man.
i'll check and see if theres something i can find from the usual sources
edit:
30001 R, isnt that the model that came bundled with the network adaptor in a black box?
also have you opened it up yet and is there a model number on the drive it self?
Its usually a number with KCM on it

Thanks for the reply. Don't know if the SCPH30001 R came with anything. And I've had no luck finding a laser lens assy anywhere. Just on ebay or a couple of places. Would like to use a Sony brand but as you said the prices are pretty high. Plus not sure if I should just replace the laser or that and the spindle motor. Heard good and bad about just replacing the laser plus have never tried just replacing the laser. Is it just a matter of taking the old one out and putting the new one in? Or are there adjustments that need to be done? Again thanks.

the only laser assembly i have dealt with that requires adjustment is a A/V PSX or Audiophile Playstation as its just not with it.
most of the newer disc based systems generally dont need any sort of adjusting unless its an old worn out laser in which you can some times, possibly adjust the pots on the laser assembly to get it to read again.
basicly what thats doing it adjusting it so more juice flows through to the diode because over time the resistance bulids up and chokes it off so it cant read real well any more.
the only reason i would see that you would want to replace the whole thing is if its not spinning the disc at all.
i've not herd alot of fattie PS2's having a spindle going out but i have herd alot of the lasers going out, could possibly be a cleaning or adjusting the pots (or potentiometers )
so basicly if its spinning the discs and youve cleaned it out then i would try adjusting the pots, also some times called a variable resistor. no harm in trying since it doesent work currently.
if its not spinning any discs then i would replace the whole thinh. [I]HOWEVER....
there is a caveat to that.
some times if a laser is unable to see if a disc is in the drive the spindle motor will not spin, again relating back to the fact that the resistance has bulit up over time in the laser assembly and may possibly need an adjustment or replacment.
i'll try and find a good video about adjusting them. often times i hear that it just delays the inevitable but after adjusting them i havent had them stop again.
i once spent a good 3 to 4 hours adjusting the pots on a PSX because i kept getting little signs of life out of it, eventually i got it, tweaked it a little more and load time was much improved even so its probably getting alot more power than it should be but untill it dies i dont care
and i know, its probably a super confusing post

Thanks for the info. The reason I ask about the laser is I still have my first phat ps2 and would like to get it working. The laser does try to read the disc but get disc read error on any disc tried. And have never tried adjusting the pots. And what I've read, don't know if it's beyond my knowledge of repair or not. But I do appreciate the help.
