I'm getting both a PS4 and an Xbox One, hopefully at launch. I didn't react fast enough to get them pre-ordered, so I'm going to have to do it the old fashioned way and wait in line for one of the midnight sales.

I'll wait and see I think. There's every chance that I might get neither of them. Not necessarily due to any negatives about either one, but I just don't get as excited about gaming as I used to. I'm more likely to play some word/puzzle game on a phone/tablet than I am to load up a console game. I did sink a lot of time into my 360, but I've had my PS3 about a year now and I've probably put about 20 hours gaming in on that. The Wii is getting used for Wii Fit and Netflix at the mo, so not much gaming there either.
Hopefully there'll be some games out for either new console that can spark a bit of interest again, but if it's all Call of Duty and driving type stuff, I'll be passing.

If you have a Costco where you live, and you know somebody with a Costco membership, it's probably the easiest way to get a PS4 or Xbox One on launch day. The only downside, is that Costco always sells them in bundles. So, they will bundle it with a controller and one game, which will take the price another $100 higher, but your odds of actually getting one are much, much better.
8 Long years ago I was trying to get a Xbox 360 at launch. I didn't preorder the system and I was kinda in a panic on launch night. I drove around to a bunch of Target's and Best Buy's, and the lines were already too long and it wasn't look good. I decided to go home, go to sleep and wake up about 6 in the morning and see if I could find one somewhere. When I woke up, I remembered about my Costco membership. I drove to the nearest Costo at about 6:45am and there was about 30 people in a line. I got in the back of the line and was like the 32nd person on the list. (gut at the front had a list with everybodies name on it ). That Costco got about 72 systems, so I easily got one. I'm pretty sure they had it bundled with an extra controller, a play n charge kit, and also a copy of Project Gotham Racing 3.
Anyways, the moral of the story is... If you can get to a costco by about 7am on launch day, you should be able to get one. (Note: Costo doesn't open till 10am I think so it's a pretty long wait, but at least you don't have to spend the whole night outside. Just get there by 7am.

Just a quick side note: Are people really concerned about getting these on launch day?
My girlfriend is the manager of a Victoria Secret Pink at the Ocean County Mall in New Jersey. She called me like an hour or so ago and asked me if I wanted a PS4. I said "No - Why?" her reply was that as of now, there were 15 available in the mall, and if I wanted one - Just let her know. As I mentioned, I have little desire for one, but this does seem to mean that there *ARE* a a significant amount available 1 day prior to launch if people actually want them. Leads me to believe that the whole shortage is mostly hype.....
Just figured I'd throw that out there for those people who ARE concerned about buying one, and don't wanna pay Ebay prices.

This seems consistent with what a lot of people are posting on CheapAssGamer. Specifically, people are being told that various Target locations have between 20-30 units for tomorrow and that many of these stores only had 8-10 preorders. Similarly, Gamestop has told stores that they can sell excess units at midnight tonight. I don't this the PS4 will be particularly hard to find if you make a little effort tomorrow to get to a store at opening.

Drove by Best Buy around 10 pm, 10 people in line, went to Meijer, about the same number of folks in queue (better because you don't have to wait outside), the employee said they still have units available if I wait until midnight.
This time it seems Sony is prepared.
edit: I'm in Detroit area.

Looks like Amazon has the PS4 in stock for immediate shipment. ToysRUs.com as well.

Some Costco (like my local one) will allow Executive Member and/or Business Member card holders in earlier than opening. So if you happen to know someone with one of those card types and have a Costco that plays ball, jump on it.

I stood in line and got one of the few available non-preorder PS4's at my Best Buy last night at midnight and today, there aren't any available anywhere. Best Buys are all out. Targets in my area only got enough to cover preorders. Even TRU and Walmart are empty. I think this one will be tougher to find than some people thought.

Don't know what area you're in, but this morning I stopped by Target in the Los Angeles suburbs and they still had units available at around 8:45 am. Similarly, people are reporting that many Costcos are getting 66 per store and that they are handing out tickets but only about half on average are sold through as of a few minutes after opening. Coupled with the fact that Amazon and TRU.com both had them back in stock last night, there really is no excuse for paying more than MSRP. This feels a lot like the PS3 launch where stores sold out for a few days, but by the following week, the PS3 was available for sale almost everywhere. The fact that there are more flippers and resellers now leads me to believe that this isn't all that limited at all and that many units that do sell today are just being held for a few days for profiteering.

Well, I'm in the Dallas area which truly is notorious for profiteering, scalping, whatever you want to call it and there aren't any around. "People" can say whatever they want about Costco's allotment, how many Targets are getting, etc. but from driving around this morning and talking to my local friends doing the same - it's hard to find here.

Spend some time over at CheapAssGamer and I think you'll get a more accurate picture of the availability in the rest of the country. The people posting over there have no incentive to lie and I know from my own experience at Target this morning that it was still available at one of the highest volume Target locations in the country. My wife is also over at Costco right now and called to let me know that they still had about 25 stacked up and available for sale almost half an hour after opening (this particular store opens to the members about 10 minutes before 10:00 am every morning for some reason). Not saying that Southern California is the same as everywhere else, but from what I'm reading on CAG, your particular area of Dallas seems to be an exception.

A friend at my local Costco said they've only sold about 10 so far. Then again, this is a Costco that has less electronics sales than an average Costco, so that's not horribly surprising.

Got my PS4 at a midnight Best Buy sale. They had 40 non-preorder units and sold them all. I was concerned about not being able to get one in the coming months, but I also did it for the fun of a being at a midnight event. Who knows how long it'll be until I can do it again, if ever (except for the Xbone release). There may not be another generation of consoles after this one.

Hehe, that's actually a possibility! All virtual, or tablet based, or something else that we don't even know of yet. When this Gen started in 2005-06, were we playing as many games on our phones as we do now? Facebook? Wow dude, you got me thinking....

Looks like good chunk of those launch units are DOA. Some folks are still in denial hoping they can still flip for profits, even crazier part, get this, they ask Amazon to drop ship the units so they can save money on shipping, what are they thinking? Amazon ships without requiring signatures and buyers can simply claim they never received the units and Paypal will do chargebacks against the sellers.

Here are my initial impressions:
PS4 System - Physically speaking , the system looks nice but it's just too damn deep! lol It has to hang off my shelf a bit to fit and give it room to breathe in the back. I had no problems, thankfully, with the whole HDMI port thing as reported. The different colored light on top is nice :) System seems to take a good while to shut down compared to the PS3 and runs a bit hotter as well.
PS4 UI - Honestly? I miss the XMB. While this UI seems more clean, it just seems so sparse compared to the PS3. No options to play music, look at photos or watch videos. I know, I know it's a game system first but I still miss it from the PS3. I also kinda miss the custom theme option as well :(
Dual Shock 4 - I actually really like the DS4. Feels strong, comfortable, buttons and d-pad are nice and clicky. Analog sticks feel more comfortable as do the L2/R2 triggers.
Games - Sadly, I haven't played any yet! lol
Movies - Tried out a blu-ray movie and it seemed to take longer to load than on the PS3. I also miss being able to see the bitrate of the movie in the top right of the screen like on the PS3. Sadly, I ran into a HUGE problem here.....
PROBLEMS - My system already froze!! All I did was try to exit from watching a blu-ray movie and it literally froze at a black screen with the loading circle frozen in the middle. DS4 even disconnected! I literally had to unplug the system to start it again!

I think the biggest "threat" is from streaming boxes. By the end of this new gen, there may be TVs that have built in video game streaming. No system necessary.

I wasn't aware of this one. No dynamic themes or anything like that? Was one of the better features of the PS3 XMB.

Most faulty ones are coming from Amazon. Sony had them stop allowing sales of the console. In August a college intern at Foxconn wrote on a message board that they were going to only put the effort in getting the PS4s to turn on because of how bad they were being treated. If this is true, most of the units from Amazon probably came from that factory since almost the DOA units were coming from Amazon.
Rumor for now, but we might hear something about this later if it turns out to be something like this did happen.
Whether it happened or not. The students should have quit Foxconn even with the threats from their school. Finish their classes and then when they weren't given their credits, then brought it to the police for an investigation. There'd be evidence then.

I'm excited for both but; I still have a ton of stuff I want to play on both the PS3 and the 360. Hard for me to want to break into the next generation when there is all this backlog, no Backwards Compatibility, and so very little that interests me on either one at the moment.

I know earlier I said I was probably not interested for a while but now I feel like I am looking forward to when I can afford both a PS Vita and a Wii U. Some PS Vita games I want are pretty cheap at $20 new now and more Wii U games that interest me are on the way this coming year. The 2 newer ones still need some time in my opinion though. I want more PS3 and 360 games to drop in price so I can grab those.

I just picked up a Wii U, I waited for the price drop and then when they added Super Mario Bros. U and Super Luigi U I jumped on it. It's a really fun console now that some games are coming out for it but I would suggest picking up a pro controller as well.

I picked one up because it seemed dumb to buy COD: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Need for Speed Rivals or any of the other new cross-gen titles on the old systems. I've got hundreds of games for the 360 and the PS3, why keep buying games at $60 each for the old generation when they are available for the same price with better quality graphics, etc. I'm probably not going to the Xbox One release, but then again, maybe I will...

In pure theory, PS3 game prices should start dropping. The handful of games I'm still interested in have had steady price drops on Amazon over the last year or so. But it's totally a your millage may vary type of thing.

Hey on top of the price drop, I found this store in the mall called "Entertainment Exchange." They aren't really there to compete with Gamestop but carry video games just to get more people into the store. They sell used games and Blu-Rays at a low profit margin to get people interested in buying their used cell phones, tablets, mp3 players, cameras, current game consoles etc.
They even take in games from 2 generations ago so you can find PS2, Gamecube and Xbox games really cheap plus PSP which Gamestop doesn't want anything to do with anymore. I got Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 complete for 20 cents and the most I paid for a single PS2 game was $6.
When they get New Super Mario Bros. U in used, they sell it for only $35 while Gamestop is probably trying to get $50-$55. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is $29.99.
I just bought Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi for PS3 for only $25 today while Gamestop still wants at least $40 for the thing. This store could be a competitor for ebay or even these game forums, and Gamestop is out of the question.

*edit* Nevermind. I agree with the comment I made in this post, just decided to delete it. Ultimate Tenkaichi's gameplay isn't that good compared to the rest, but it does go through the Dragon Ball story in detail, similar to Tenkaichi 3, so it's got one good quality.

Well, I compared the build up to the XBONE launch to that of the US Saturn launch. It is now official, this is the worst major console launch by a big company EVER! The Kinect being made to spy on you and the very possible (eventual) hacking which will cause other people to spy on you. The smugness of the heads of Xbox division, and firing of them. Now, with people still staying loyal to Microsoft after all that BS and the commercials making the horrible Kinect seem like a key feature to your XBONE experience..... I just dont have words. PS4 having issues is a shame and a huge let down, but THIS! This is just bottom of the barrel terrible. It is literally a $500 paperweight.
PS, theres another video I would have posted, but I can only post 3. Who knows how many more are out there. A friend of mine can play KI though, so online games you download are ok, but too bad the $60 disk based games you paid for wont work till after you get it fixed.

I just went against everything I've ever done and picked up a PS4. A friend of mine decided he would rather have some cash and offered it to me, I decided to go ahead and take him up on his offer. All he had was the new Assassin's Creed game but I'll stop by the store tomorrow and pick up a couple more games.
It's definitely weird for me to have a console at launch but I'll admit it's cool to be apart of the excitement that comes with it unlike I've been in the past.

I really want to get a PS4. I'm practically selling everything I own to get one. I got rid of my 360 and kept my PS3 because the PS4 apparently doesn't have multi-out. I have an old-school analog receiver that I play records/laserdiscs/sub480i games on and sometimes hook it up to my PS3 because my TV is small with tiny speakers.
There's not really any games I want on it yet except some PSN ones that I'd be getting free with PS+ and FFXIV that I'd be getting free because I'm a subscriber.

I actually decided to jump in on getting a new console and I went with... the Ouya! Because it's the cheapest, has some free games, and I needed a better freaking MAME box than my original Xbox. This thing can run newer arcade games at the correct speed than the Xbox can. My Xbox lags on Bust-A-Move 2, but that game runs flawlessly on the Ouya using the Neo Geo emulator. I haven't tried the same rom in MAME but it should work there too. The Neo Geo runs King of Fighters 2002 at full speed without sound, but maybe MAME will work with the sound. Either that or my KOF2k2 is just a bad dump and I should try another.
I mainly bought it to share with my girlfriend though. It was a cheaper and easier solution than a new computer when her Win XP computer BSOD's every time we tried to plug in a USB game controller and no fixes seemed to remove the issue.

We will get PS4 only in 2014, and Xbox One hell knows when... Importing is not an option for me. At least for now. Guess I will try to make the best of it and enjoy winter time in front of my PS3 with games like GT6 and Gundam Extreme Vs Full Boost. You are damn lucky, you can have Dead Rising 3 and Forza Motorsport 5. So jealous!
