Anyone here use DCDivx?

Anyone have any experience with using this? I've been trying it out with a cd-R containing some Simpsons episodes in divx, and it will read the disc and go to a loading screen but then the screen just goes black after a minute or two and stays that way.

Most likely it's your videos themselves. Even if their DIVX (And not xvid) doesn't mean they're compatible. XVid was released in 2003, last DCdivx was in 2002, unless they changed projects. So you need to use an OLD copy of DIVX (4.12), and make sure it's profile is set low and compatible with the dreamcast. And don't use ogg-vorbis for audio in the movies.

I also do not know what kind of container files it needs, assuming it only supports AVI.

Just to make sure I understand, it's going black in the movie? Or is the menu itself just going black?

No movie actually boots up, the screen just goes black after the DCDivx load screen. I am testing it out with a cd-r that has 4 episodes on it, perhaps a disc featuring just one would be a better guinea pig.

I used it a long time ago and it worked fine.

Like Ozzy said, you'll need a much older version of the codec and to re-encode the movies into a compatible format.
