You know things like..

-Cords have to be wound up w/ hair ties, no rubberbands.
-Consoles put away, or at least covered when not in use.
-Games stay in a case/sleeve unless using.
-Games are in a certain orders.
-Games, controllers, consoles, cleaned inside/out before going in collection.
-Dusting the gameroom every frickin' Monday..
-etc...etc...

Lately my thing has been arranging things in the rough order I got my original copies. I'm trying to recap the story of my growing up with video games and doing them in clusters like this really brings back the memories! I'm sure it'll all go haywire once I reach the beginning of 2007 because that's when I started grabbing anything and everything but I should still remember a big cluster of games I liked out of the piles of crap I bought and ended up trading in to another store to get rid of it.

I used to wash every nes dust sleeve in the sink with soap and water then let them air dry for a week.
It would take forever but was worth it, it makes them look like new and gets rid of all the dust.

I detail clean any newly acquired accessories or hardware before mixing them into my collection. I also clean any disc-based games with alcohol and cotton balls. Another thing I'm pretty OCD about is removing any stickers or writing from the game cases. I actually have boxes of replacement cases for most systems in case I get one that's too beat up. So yeah, I'm pretty much Phil Hartman as the Anal Retentive Chef in those old SNL skits when it comes to my game collection! LOL

I think what I do is pretty standard. Separated by system, imports separated from domestic, loose carts from complete boxed games, and alphabetized. Pretty much just making it simple to locate what I want to play. I like to keep it neat so it doesn't drive my wife nuts when she goes into my game room.

Keeping my games in original boxes

I used to do quite a bit of OCD like stuff. I used to keep every box I had from the late NES, SNES, N64 and GB->GBA period all stacked in a high closet shelf unflattened to keep them safe. I have almost no boxes now but the few I have, system too are lined up on a shelf I have sideways and system box or bigbox Mario Paint are face forward for the art.

As it is now I have all the games split by system and then in A-Z order with numbers in front of that. Anything that came with a dust sleeve is still in it. Back in the day I used to keep the manuals (NES) in the sleeve, but then didn't want them worn so they got put elsewhere (with other manuals) in order too. When I'm done with a controller I wrap the cord up tightly around it and place it in the same box/spot they came from so I don't lose it.

If I ever buy a used game(flea market, etc) I won't do anything with it until it has been cracked open (security bits) and cleaned with 91% alcohol on the pins, the shell inside, the outside too and then onto any dust sleeve as well. I don't want to be touching that crap or having it in my system as people are dirty and unless it's clean enough to eat off of, it's not happening. Also anything used that may have some evil rental/used shop sticker on it, I will find a way to remove it. I even over a very slow and painful bit of work got 3 rental stickers off an RC Pro Am 2 manual I have because I didn't like that shiny crap on there as I own it, not them.

I used to take and evening and clean all my cartridges but then stopped as other things took over.

Recently when exposing my girlfriend's kids to the N64, there were issues booting cartridges. I checked the ones that had problems and sure enough- dirty. I cleaned my deck and the games I took over.

Think I gotta bring that bit o' OCD back....

Not too much anymore, really.

I always have cords bound with hair ties
I alphabetize all of my media
I catalog new acquisitions of games and related media like game books and movies on the weekend
I remove all stickers and marks as best as possible
I replace cracked and damages cases and stock several extras
I always try to get the security seal sticker strips off in one piece, and I stick them on the inside of the game cases when I do
I save receipts of pretty much all of my game purchases and I tend to clip them under the clip that holds the manuals in place (for modern games)

Things like regular dusting and keeping games in their cases is pretty standard fair, I think. Nothing OCD about that. I used to have a habit of sticking removed price and security stickers on my desk, back when I had a desk in my gameroom. Now I just stick them on the inner wall of the closet usually.
