"The fervor over Nintendo’s quirky new GameCube release, Animal Crossing, has had gamers positively in an uproar. Part of what makes Animal Crossing odd is that there is no real objective to the game; essentially meaning it doesn’t end. According to Nintendo, however, Animal Crossing does indeed have an end – but it doesn’t occur until 30 years down the line. That begs the question: Who’s up to the challenge? "

Can you change the YEAR in the system clock? I wouldn't mind forwarding ahead 30 years once I'm done playing :)

you can indeed change the clock on the Gamecube. Simply turn the GC on without a game in it. It will take you to the menu for the system. It includes the memory card manager, clock/calendar etc.
this comes in handy for other games too, like getting extra cars in Simpsons road Rage and hearing different messages in Madden 2002 (not sure about 2003 yet!).

I'm sure you could ask the kids at gamefaqs.com about this, as I'm sure about 50% of them have by now reached the 'end' of the game using the aforementioned tactic.

You can also set the clock by holding down the A button when you power the system on. That way you don't have to waste valuable gaming seconds taking the disc out and putting it back in or opening the lid and closing it.

The Ingame clock method does not change the GameCube clock.
