I'm looking for suggestions on a good ColecoVision emulator for Windows. I've tried 3.

ColEM
I really wanted to like this one, as it is still being updated. The last update was in November of last year. But man, it runs really slowly.

This one is pretty cool, as it can emulate all of the different controller types. But sound was choppy, and the speed seemed a little off.

This one seems the smoothest. However, you can't adjust windowed mode, which is stuck in 1 of 2 sizes. It does go full screen, though.

I also downloaded ColEm and MSX.EMU to my Nvidia Shield, but I haven't tried either of them out yet. If anyone has any experience with these, I'd love to hear about it.

I've got ColEm Deluxe on my droid phone. The games I ran seemed perfectly fine. Haven't tested controllers just the touch controls for a bit. A bit too ancient of a system for my tastes.

Broglia's .emu apps are aces. Don't have msx.emu but have the rest of his emus. No compatibility issues, shaders, compatible with mad controllers, easy to use. The best on droid.

MESS has CV emulation....have you tried that?

It looks like MESS is now a part of MAME. I have my MAME configured just as I like it, and the ROMS I have work. I'd rather not go down that route. Also, I just don't need something that emulates that many systems. I have what I think of as best of breed emulators installed, or at least the ones that work for me that I like.

Huh didn't know they merged what a shame. I used MAME back in the early days and before it was called that, but once they started getting this shitty idea they had to keep renaming and reconfiguring rom sets per release I got fed up and erased it. You know you got problems with setup takes more time than the games you just want to pop a fake quarter into and play. I never went back to arcade emulators after that other than the CPS1/2 one and NeoGeo out around the same time (ie: FinalBurn, a NeoGeo stand alone, perhaps others.) I'd stick with a stand alone emulator if all you care about is just Coleco because mess will be a mess within mame.

All this! I've tried others but I think his stuff is best.

I tried MSX.emu, and I couldn't get it to work. It kept telling me to start the system with a cartridge inserted after choosing a ROM that I knew worked in other emulators. It's too bad, because I use lots of the .emu emulators, and I like them all.

Do you have the correct BIOS files? Looks like that one requires some additional set up. Not hard.

It actually comes with C-BIOS. I checked the link you posted, and it didn't say much other than that. Thanks for trying, though. I did Google the error message I was getting, and I didn't find anything useful.

I was tinkering with BlueMSX the other and it worked great for what little I played.

Though I use retoarch (not sure if it uses the MESS or BlueMSX core). Need to use it more to check the compatibility.

I've not used MAME for years now, however even then it was a pain as wanted to change ROM sets to work with games. Never saw why; it's just a pain. Also, strange why emulators seem to struggle from what is said with an old 8 bit ColecoVision system! lol

ColEm didn't recognize my external Shield controller when hooking up to my TV for some reason, so I gave MSX.emu another shot. After setting it up correctly, it works fine. I prefer the way ColEm treats the 10-key keypad, by bringing it up with the Y key and selecting with the A button. But otherwise, MSX.emu seems superior.
