Paczerk Voice Enhanced

Pacman is out for a night on the town when those pesky Ghost show up. There are no Power Pellets in sight, good thing you have a laser gun. Oh No!!! The Ghost have lasers too!!!

Even worse, you're late, and Ms Pacman is on the WARPATH!!!

Nicely done! I like the version with the "normal walls" best. Can you fiddle with the difficulty switches or game levels so that you can have either the normal walls or the ones with extra holes?

Pac and the ghosts look GREAT, the blinking eyes on the ghosts and having Ms. Pac-Man appear as Evil Otto are very nice touches. Excellent job.

Here's the binary so everyone can play the game, I assume this is OK to share - if not, just let me know. Game ON!

Without actually adding some extra code to the program (which I am still trying to learn) the Walls and Hole in Walls have to be 2 seperate BIN files.

I Hack the games for fun so anybody that wants to play the game is fine by me.

I don't have a label designed for this hack either. (Hint, Hint)

Is there any interest in this forum for Atari 2600 hacking? I would love to get some hack ideas or see hacks that other people have made.

Oddly enough, I was going to try my first hack, of that same game, and make it a pacman themed hack. It wasn't going to be exactly what you've done, but it's close enough that now it will look like I've stolen someone else's idea.

Bet ya didn't know that my SI hack (arcade invaders) was one of the first 2600 hacks out there :D I did it back around 1998 or so (along with Vector Asteroids) when hacking 2600 bins seemed to like some kind of personal crazy idea for fun.. Then shortly afterwards there were a flood of them and now it seems like a retrogaming pastime to hack 2600 Roms and Space Invaders in particular LOL

Anyway nice job on the Berzerk Hack. The sprites look really good! Interestingly, like I said I did a ton of hacks a couple of years ago and thus I have dozens and dozens on my hard-drive which really SUCK. One theme I always did was insert MsPacman/Pacman characters into games. For example I tried altering the Dragons in Adventure to look like MsPacman. Boy did that blow LOL. Yep.. no one will EVER see those hacks that's for sure :P

Anyway, again Nice Job :) (and thanks for the rom DP) ;)

AHH Cmon!!! I want to fight Ms Pac-Man with a sword. :-D

I had to learn how to use DOS when I first started hacking about 6 months ago. Things have gotten alot easier now.

Here's a Pitfall Hack I made for some unknown reason
http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31634

And here's my Ms. Pac-man (MAME) hacks. Piranha 2's the best of the 2. In the last maze, you have to go into the fish-bowl! (Piranha 2's based on a really crappy pac-man bootleg,(piranha) check the KLOV!)

You're quite the artist Racoon dude ;) All that stuff looks real nice :D

By the way, what'd you use to hack the arcade roms? I seem to remember a tool that was linked to from the old Jerky's arcade hacks and I know I got it on my hdd somewhere, but I totally forgot what it was. :?

I used AGE and Turaco. they're basically the same program, but one is newer, and the other lets you edit Pac-text and mazes.

How about a Digital Press related hack? Y'know, like getting the Space Fury guy (and Ms. Space Fury) into a game?

I have no desire to learn to do this myself. My list of "things I have to learn" is already too long, so I'll count on the talents of others to make this happen :)

The problem with hacking (other than NES), is the pallettes are usually un-alterable without changing the actual code in the game, making it tough to come up with cool graphic ideas. If colors were easily altered in arcade games, I would have hacked Jack Rabbit into "Brer-rabbit" long ago (which is what I suspect the game was supposed to be originally)
That being said, I can't think of any suitable game for a DP hack.

Ahhh, The infamous Helloween. Good Job on the Pitfal Hack.
I'll have to give the Arcade hacks a try, they look really nice.

The hardest part about Hacking the Atari games is just coming up with the idea. And then trying to adapt the graphics to what you want. In Paczerk I had a better looking Ghost sprite, the problem was that it was a pixel too wide and when they would shoot they would shoot themselves.

And my biggest problem is Color Hacking. I'm trying to teach myself but it can be pretty tideous. In Raccoon Lads Pitfall hack (Helloween), the Black Background makes the game.

Hmmm, a Digital Press hack. Let's see. Joe has been chased to the top of a building that is under construction by a ruthless classic videogame collector who is out to get his collection. Joes only defense is to hurl Pacman and ET carts down upon the stalker. maybe...maybe......

How about taking one of those adult-themed 2600 games and making it into something the whole family can enjoy (thus going against a trend that has probably spawned a large percentage of all NES hacks to date)?

Or not.

Rescue Bira Bira (http://www.atariage.com/hack_page.html?SystemID=2600&SoftwareHackID=25) is the best example of this - plus it helped define the Tiki Idol's legend int he retro community!

The problem with the Adult games is that most of them are hard to control and just plain bad. There are a few like X-Man that could turn out good.
Good Idea..
