I'm a relatively new collector and don't have one.
Are these worth the price to those that have played them?
In other words, if you didn't already have one, would you buy new equipment at these prices?

Thanks.

A no-brainer: get it asap. Great deal on great games.

Definitly a great handheld with great games. I like it just as much as my gba.
The console/6 pack thing looks like a pretty good deal, but don't forget that you can usually score some really nice finds for this unit on eBay.

It's a great purchase. My husband and I just bought one this past weekend. We got the NGPC with the 6 games, plus the 4 pack of games. They're alot of fun. Metal Slug 1st Mission rocks, as does Capcom vs. SNK.
I read somewhere else (I don't remember where, unfortunately) that the company who has packed these games *may* continue to package them until all the games are for sale. Sweet.

It's a great system with a high quality software library. There's nothing to think about, you should just buy one.

While reading this board I decided to get this set at EB. However it was a let down. Perhaps it was the drab graphics and colors i was expecting more there is no backlight so its hard to see. I wanted to like this unit and i do admire its joystick and some of the games are fun. However after purchasing this i know i could have gotten the same games almost on my advanced sp with backlight and superior graphics. Or my nomad for the graphics on the nomad are fantastic compared to the neo geo and its also backlit. Theres not much of a software selection either. Just a warning.

Excuse me? Never speak again, ever. ;)
Just kidding, but...the selection of games is just like the Neo Geo AES, only with more RPGs and strategy games. Meaning, it's very well-rounded, even if you don't like fighting games that much (and even if you don't, SNK Vs. Capcom: Match of the Millenium is worth a shot)
And I don't see what you mean about getting the same games on the GBA SP. King of Fighters for GBA was terrible, there's no Metal Slug for GBA (and Contra for GBA is terrible) and there is nothing like Card Fighter's Clash on any other console.

Ah. See I am the opposite, I'd rather shell out money for gameplay rather than graphics anyday.
The games(and system) are also a lot cheaper for the NGPC than they are for the GBA.
No backlight is a draw back, but you can always turn a light on, or get a worm light or equivilent.
As for a limited library, that is true. But with more than 100 games out, it will definitely keep you occupied. Granted the games that come with the system in that package aren't exactly the best, there are other games out there.
I personally recommend
1)Cardfighters Clash
2)Samuri Showdown
3)Gals Fighters
4)Puzzle Link
5)King of Fighters R-1
6)Metal Slugs
7)Puyo Pop

I do believe there is a metal slug game coming to the advance later this year if i remember right. I thought i had typed that i could have bought better games that are almost the same on my advance or nomad. Gunstar heroes would fill the slug void as would contra hard corps. Street fighter alpha three for my backlit sp more than kills match of the millinium. The card game was not included in the packs i got at eb but i would imagine it would be something pretty close to pokemon and sapphire would make a good runner. I like turf masters but i am sure the new mario golf game for the advance will trounce it, could be wrong though. Pac man is gobbled up by the arcade collection on the advance with ms.pacman, galaga, dig dug , and pole position. Again the rpgs i did not recieve in the pack but i am sure the golden suns at least match those if not tactics ogre will suffice. Puzzle bobble is taken out by super bust a move 2. Also puzzle fighter turbo. I do wish they would hurry with that new metal slug game. I am still trying to like my ngpc but its hard when i cant see the games i am playing. Its a pitty this thing could not do something more with the colors. I heard there is an import game that is like wario ware is that true how does it compare i might be interested.

Cardfighter clash is nothing close to Pokemon ruby or sapphire. At all.
I love this game, in fact its my favorite for the system. It can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be, and poses some very difficult challenges. Also you can turn it on and play a quick match for 5 minutes, or have matches that last for hours on end. IMHO, every NGPC owner should own this game.
Basically what it comes down to, those six games that are packed in with the system you showed us are ok-to-good (obviously, they would lose money if they sold all the best games in a package like that). If you want the great-to--excellent games, you will have to spend a little more money.
But on average, if you could only get one handheld, you're saving tons of money compared to the GBA/SP. Just because you can't walk into a store and buy a game off a shelf, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Ebay throws out excellent NGPC packages on a weekly basis.
I personally think the Nomad is overrated. Not a very good screen, and way too bulky for a handheld :/

I think this is the Wario Ware -type game:

As for the colors, I think the 3 color scheme adds to the charm of the super deformed fighters, though I admit that there are a few other titles that could use some visual sizzle. However there are a couple of full color games out there ( Cotton and Sonic).
Oh--and get Card Fighters Clash!!@!!!!1!111!@@!!!1!

Has anyone tried to put a GBA Afterburner light in a NGPC.
I know the screens are different sizes but someone put one in a GameBoy Color . And I think the NGPC and the GameBoy Color have the same size screen.
Just a thought.

Buy it! Buy it! Best! Handheld! EVER! Best games I've ever played, coolest little sprites I know, and best gameplay I know of. I have 17 games for it, and I've been addicted to pretty much every one of them by now (except maybe Faselei!... for some reason, I just haven't gotten into it).
Cardfighter's Clash, Match of the Millenium, Gals Fighters, Biomotor Unitron, Metal Slug, Sonic, Puyo Pop... and much, much (ok, not THAT much) more!

There is nothing to think about...period. Very few, if any, clunkers for the system means no matter what you buy, you'll be happy.

About Gals Fighters...I recently picked up "Gals' Fighter Best Edition" which was a budget release. However, the game is only Jp. Do you have the Eng version? if so, could you please paraphrase what, uh, "Miss X" says pre-fight? I have a feeling its something pretty funny...

There's a thread at neo-geo.com about this. Basically, the screen that disperses the light is just a -bit- too short to do the full job. There's about 3 people on the boards working out how to properly do the job.
You know I'm getting one when they happen.

Not even remotely true if you're going for complete ones. Some of the complete NGPC games in the original Euro clamshells are SPENDY:
Faselei $70-90
Cotton $50ish
Evolution: Eternal Dungeons $100-250
Pocket Reversi $300-600 (I've seen it go for $600+)
If you want cart only NGPC games you can get them super cheap though, because the market was flooded this year with NOS carts from SNK. You want collectors complete ones, you're gonna PAY for it though!

Thanks! I suppose the lines there were direct translations of the Japanese, because I doubt these were in the US release....or were they???!!??!

"[Akari] "Yikes! Who're you?...Perhaps...You're maybe a transvestite?"

Ouch! I never looked into Euro clamshell games though :)
There is a game store that sold import games - used and complete - ranging from $10 to $30 (honestly I dont know if they still do....haven't been there in a few years). Thats what I was going by.
Also, if completeness doesn't mean anything important to you, you can pick up some cart only lots on eBay for a pretty decent price.

Besides the ones Maxlords listed, you can get clams for a reasonably good price. I scored two Euo clams for under $15 each , shipping included, from UK sellers. I guess the games that are more text heavy would be worth more in a Euro release.....

Btw, here are some nice Gals fighters, Match of the millenium, KoF R2 and Last blade combo movies. (http://home.planet.nl/~voge0585/movies/combos.html)
