Once, and only once, I smashed the hell out of an Atari joystick while playing Caverns of Mars on my Atari 800. That game was (is) incredibly frustrating! No game has ever pissed me off like that one, before or since.

I usually need a new Keyboard from time to time because i often play pc shmups or stepmania and when i do a stupid mistake i decide to smash it xD I also remember one of the Minigames on Hudsons JP Site, you had to press Space as often as possible, and after like 1 hour it did not work anymore :(

I broke a Genesis i had on accident.
My brother kept pestering me to play so i slammed reset on it and it wouldn't play any carts after that. So i brought it back to Funcoland who didn't test there stuff anyways and they gave me a new one.
The only thing that I've ever wrecked was a controller. It taught me a lesson.
I was using a 3rd party see-thru PSX non-dualshock controller. The plastic was very hard. The snappable kind.
Anyways...this certain morning I had spent quite some time doing all of the licences and arcade mode, back to back, in Gran Turismo. In one race, the A.I. was being particularly cheap....and I drove that $2 Taiwanese controller into the carpet. It LITERALLY shattered. There were the little buttons dangling by thin wires....and no way to save all of those hours of progress. I had no other controller at the time.
I haven't tossed a controller since. :D

God those things were crap. I can't believe people get nostalgic about 'em. And I really can't believe the O2 site tells how to replace the O2 joysticks(which rock) with the crappy ol' Atari 2600 controllers. yeeessh.

I have you all beat.
I've never busted a console out of rage.
Controllers, that's a different story.
I have a love/hate relationship with Street Fighter. This relationship has cost me COUNTLESS Sega Saturn controllers (yes, the Japanese/US2 ones) Snes, and PS1 controllers. Some due to the AI's relentless cheapness, some due to losing to my friends. I have:
-Swung a Saturn pad over my head lasso-style, and slammed it into the driveway. Found pieces of the controller 2 years later while doing yardwork.
-Crushed a PS1 controller, and a Snes controller by beating it repeatedly with a 30-pound dumbell.
-Crushed an N64 controller with my bare hands thanks to WWF No Mercy.
-The only game I smashed was Street Fighter Collection 2 for the PS. Pulled it out of the system, still spinning, and flung it against the corner of my room. Shattered beautifully. Went to Best Buy the next day and got another one for $20. Talk about lucky.
Up until 2 weeks ago, I was rehabilitated for over 3 years. I did break down while playing Raw vs Smackdown. The PS2 controller (stock) had been messed up for weeks, the start button was intermittently acting as though is was on auto-fire, causing most of my games to pause and unpause rapidly. This coupled with the fact that the game was royally pissing me off caused me to crush it with my bare hands.
The only peripheral I have puched/abused which shows no signs of abuse is my MAS stick. That's because my hand gets beat up, not the stick. Definately well built and solid.
I really don't do it anymore though. If I get that frustrated, I either stop playing, or I have a cube made out of legos that I throw against the wall to relieve the stress (shatters into pieces beautifully), then put the cube back together again.
No, I'm not psycho, I have never been in a fight, hit a person (except for martial arts, but that doesn't count), or anything like that, I just get my frustrations out and get it over with, in the end it's healthier than bottling it up.

I once tried to break my N64 controller in half but cooled down before I could break it. That joker is tough! I had 99 coins on Mario 64 on the rainbow ride board. The last coins were on this little island where I had to use the cannon to get to. Well I made it up there, slid down the pole, and a FREAKING PURPLE BOMB THING PICKED ME UP AND CHUNKED ME OFF INTO NOWHERE!!! I'm till PO'ed about that!
Also, not in rage, but in extreme annoyance over time me and my pals took an old N64 Mad Catz controller and gave it the one gun salute.
Also I just bought a NES game called fighting gold, I thought it was gonna be so cool. FIGHTING golf, sounds like the best golf game ever! Well we plugged it in and it was just a crappy golf game, you couldn't hit anyone with clubs. We're gonna take that and stick an arrow through it soon.

NES. I used to slam it every time I would get the blue and gray screen. There was a arm and fist mark broken out of the top of it by the end of its life. It would have been a lot easier if I just bought a new one that worked better.

Oh yeah, here is a warning for the N64.
If you have a Rumble Pak in your controller, dont punch your controller. The Rumble Pak will shoot out and most likely blast you in the toe.

"If You Can't Beat It Mentally, Beat It Physically"
Hearing about the drowned Game Cube reminded me of my friend's brother Darcy and his Nintendo Entertainment System.
This was back in 1990. Darcy had an NES that he played and played and played. This kid(about 15 at the time) and his friend would rent nintendo games, then stay up all night playing the game just to beat it. These kids were hardcore gamers.
Well, I guess you are wondering where the "If you can't beat in mentally, beat it physically" comes in. Well when Darcy would play a game and die early in the game or lose, his face would go blood red and he would either throw the Nintendo controller at the machine or he would smash the top of the Nintendo with his fist. That would of course cause the game to pop-up.
One time, when I was over, I said to Darcy, "If you can't beat it mentally, beat it physically" as a joke. Well, Darcy took this saying to heart you whenever he would get angry at the Nintendo, he would stand up, smash the top of the game and say,"If you can't beat it mentally, beat it physically" or he would say, "Ha! See I won. I beat the game."
I admit, I didn't think the little saying would catch on with him. He continued to hammer on the Nintendo on different days that he would play it(which was everyday) until the Nintendo's casing cracked and finally until the Nintendo no longer had a casing but was just collection of working guts. The guts stopped working after a few months, and he got into the modern 486 Computer games. He grew out of hitting game systems.
That Nintendo was tough. I doubt Darcy could do the same thing to the current CD based game systems currently on the market and have them last and last like the good ole Nintendo.
I don't condone Darcy's behaviour but at the time(I was 19) it was hillarious to watch.

Ive smashed 2 PS2 controllers in my brief fits of rage over Tiger Woods 2003. Nothing makes me more angry than an easy going game of golf gone wrong.
It goes exactly like this:
"F*CK!!"
*Smash*
*Glare at the TV for 30 seconds*
*Sit down and regret throwing my controller on the hard wood floor*

I was playing a two hour race on Gran Turismo 2 and decided to get up for a cookie... Then without thinking I quit the race. Then I restarted and finished the race... But the Playstation froze before I could save.
Then I literally THREW my Playstation down the stairs.
The other time I was playing Killer Instict for hours and hours, trying to beat Idol on the hardest mode. Everytime I'd get him close to dying he'd regenerate his life. So, I lost it and laid the controller nicely on the floor, walked into the next room, grabbed a fifty pound weight and dropped it on the controller. Over and over and over. *My friend slept through the whole thing, not more than five feet away*

I once threw a N64 controller at the system while playing Zelda: OoT. I was getting the Biggorron Sword, and was trying to get the eye drops to the Gorron. I tried SO many times. Yet to no avail. I was incredibly mad!
I also broke quite a few N64 joysticks playing the Mario Party minigame in which you had to rotate it really fast to win!

Dreamcast controller, Ruined while playing Jet Grind Radio. It was already getting messed up, and I kept slamming it on the ground(which was why it was not working right anyway lol). Every once in awhile the controller would pause/unpause while I was playing. I just had one more Tag to go on what at the time seemed like a very hard and long level, the controller messed up and I slammed it so hard on the ground it stopped working altogether. And with no way to save I had to just turn off my DC as it was the only controller I had at the time.
GameBoy GameShark, Thrown against the wall, I was around 11 at the time and I kept trying to make all these codes for the Pokemon Yellow game, I ended up messing it up enough to delete my save file(which I think was complete with all or almost all Pokemon). So I threw the GS into the wall making it explode into millions of cheap plastic shards. Later I read in the GS manual that it wasen't compatible with Pokemon Yellow in the first place! XD
Countless N64 controllers, ruined with Mario Party 1
PS1 DualShock controller, it still works but I was fighting a hard boss on FF8 and I got nervous and bit the rubber off the right analog stick. lol
....Just to name a few.
Luckily I haven't broken a system do to anger.

I'm about to destroy a game any minute now.. and it just came in the mail hours ago. "Heart Of Darkness" for the PSX. I can't get more than four screens into this @$&%*'in game (side-scrolling platformer) and I keep getting my ass kicked! I mean seriously.. is there ANY need to swarm me with dozens of monsters.. when I've barely even learnt the controls yet? The damn tutorials still going on for gawds sake! The reviews said this game was difficult.. but this is ridiculous. My left thumbs going numb after 30 minutes.

I'll just kinda very lightly toss my control pads out of my hands toward the carpet whenever I get really frustrated with a game, but I certainly would never slam them to the ground or smash them into a wall or anything like that. I spend way too much of my own hard earned money on games and systems to ever abuse them, but I figure that control pads are replacable. However, I've never tossed one hard enough to break it or to damage it. But I sure will cuss a mean streak at a game though! My family has always gotten upset over me getting upset at my games, but they know that I'm just venting my anger in a way that isn't really hurting anyone or anything, except it probably isn't music to God's ears. But hopefully He understands though. I have to get all that anger out of me somehow, and verbal abuse seems far less detrimental than physical abuse would be, so that's all I do.

I did some damage to one of my big Xbox controllers while I was trying to get through Halo 2 on legendary. Opened it up, re-seated the trigger, screwed it back together, good as new. No exterior scratches :D

LOL Some of you people need help. Anyway, I've never destroyed anything, but there have been some games that really tested my mental stability.
1) HOVER STRIKE for the Jaguar. Sucks like a HOOVER. I pulled that game out of the cartridge slot at the speed of light. Maybe faster.
2) GILLIGAN'S ISLAND for the NES. Man is it ever a bad game! I paid $35 for a like-new boxed copy on Ebay. I paid $34.50 too much!
3) CHECKERED FLAG for the Jaguar. Wost driving game that I've ever played (briefly).
4) E.T. for the 2600. Paid .25 cents. Paid .24 cents too much!

I've nevere destroyed anythig video game related in anger. However, I was rather unmerciful to my NES controllers. besides throwing them around, I used to bite them! The top part of the controllers are riddled with bite marks and the black plastic is also scratched up from my teeth. Heh, I need to get some new NES controllers.

I've never really destroyed anything. Although i did discover how durable the XBOX controller s is.
I was playing Ninja Gaiden on Very Hard, a pain i'm sure some of you are familar with. Anyways i got piss of because i kept losing in a fight wit a bunch of ninja and the last check point was a long ways back. So i heave my controller at the TV in anger and i miss the TV. The controller flies over a banistar and down a flight of staris. Where it went over it had at least a 15 foot drop ( it cleared the top of a 60" tv and landed on the lowest step.
Suprisingly the controller suffered no damage, not even a scratch.
Thank god for the in-line release otherwise my xbox could've been yanked off it's shelf and taken a 4 foot drop to the floor (not that i expect the fall to hurt the behemoth but it probably would've damaged the disc)..

Wow. I just now read this entire thread.
When I was like 10 years old, I had a temper. I was really bad at SMB, and when I would diefor like the 50th time trying to jump across a pit or whatever, I would whip the controller and it would hit our stone fireplace. But that was when I was 10.
Now, I won't even "toss" a controller". If I get really frustrated, I put the controller down, shut the machine off, and walk away. Within a few minutes I already want to start playing again.
We all get frustrated (except for NE146), but if you just walk away for a few minutes, you'll get over it, and your precious gaming paraphenalia will remain intact.

Never a game, but when I was in my early teens, I would try to beat an RPG without EVER leveling up. I would just die and die. Fighting Necrasaro in Dragon Warrior 4 Mara would not cast a spell (bad ai) that would have beat him. His next turn whole party is DEAD! DAMN YOU MARA!!! I punched a hole in a really cool space mural I had as my wall paper & the drywall behind it too!

in 1996 Bases Loaded '96 Destroyed my faith in the jaleco co to make good games. the games cost me 60.00 hard earned dollars and that game sucked. I believed at that time I promised I would never buy another jaleco game ever. To this day I don't think I have.

I've lost 2 Gameboys, 1 NES, and one Playstation to my temper. Not to mention dozens of controlers. I also had this bad habit when I was younger of physically punching the TV screen. I've actually dislocated knuckles this way. I also killed a copy of Fear Effect for PS 1. Not even the promise of vague lesbian action could keep me from snapping that frustrating piece of shit in half.

In horror, I watched a friend of mine snap the joystick off of one of my Atari VCS joysticks. We were playing Surround and he was just a little too enthusiastic (this was back in 1982). I only let him play paddle games at my house after that.
I can get quite frustrated playing a videogame but I take my anger out on my loved ones. Isn't that what they're there for?
My son is a good example of how to handle video game "trauma". He can get frustrated, jump up and down while playing and even get to the point where he asks for my help but he has never thrown a controller in anger or otherwise.
I'm trying to teach him to curse when he's frustrated ("don't just say 'darn', say 'Jesus Tits!'") but he just hasn't developed the knack for it.

I've destroyed several MadCatz PlayStation controllers, but I was only mildly annoyed at the time (at least up until the moment of the breakage). It's just that the D-pad on those things is so flimsy that pressing it hard in any direction will break it.
Oh, and every damn time I sustain critical damage to my vertical tank I hit the "eject" button and set off the auto-destruct sequence. BOOM!

Aw geez...fighting games caused me to break at least 3 or 4 Playstation controllers...I've broken two PS2 controllers, due to the same reason. Virtua Fighter 4, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Capcom vs. SNK 2 are games that really made me angry. I have a really short temper; I hate it. :/

I'm very good at keeping my cool, thus I've never broken any controllers, games, or systems.
I do have a friend though, who's temper is like a short fuse. He's been known to get so mad at games he keeps dying on...he'll take the game outside and smash it to pieces with a hammer (I've seen him do it at least twice!) He was once playing Earthworm Jim 2 on the Saturn, and he kept dying at a certain spot. After getting a game over, he took the disc out of the system and threw it at the floor really hard, which was wood flooring. The game disc cracked in half.
Video games bring out the Mr. Hyde in me. Here is a list of the foul deeds I have done:
1. Punched a hole in the wall next to my computer because of the Joust level in Unreal Tournament 2004 (seriously... one on one capture the flag is the worst concept ever).
2. Smashed my keyboard to pieces thanks to many games (some keys are still missing and I'm too lazy to look for them around the mess that is my room).
3. Smashed an NES (à la Incredible Hulk).
4. Utterly destroyed a Nintendo 64 controller thanks to the Platinum challenges in Blast Corps... this got me even madder, so I utterly destroyed my other controller. This included, but was not limited to: throwing the controllers at the wall and floor, gnawing at the handles, trying to snap the controller in two, trying to pull the control stick out of its socket, and smashing the controllers repeatedly on the metal panels of my bed... all the while shouting insanities and yelling madly. I had to borrow a friend's controller (which he reluctantly lent to me when I promised I'd buy him a new one if I destroyed it) to finish the game. It's true.

I've never broken a console or game. But I am surprised I've never broken a controller. When I was younger I used to slam the SNES controller to the ground alot when I was frustrated, or grip it real hard like trying to twist it in half.

When I was a teenager I used to hit my NES. So much so that I bent the metal shielding inside the console until it touched and shorted out the motherboard. I also smashed one of the original controllers. After that I started to control my anger, which wasn't easy for a violently temperamental person like me. Before the NES, I would get angry playing games on my Texas Instruments 99/4A computer and would hit it sometimes. My original computer has a nice little fist shaped dent in its aluminum body.

I've never broken anything, but my brother has. 3 xbox controllers, 9-12 gamecube controllers, 1 ps3 controllers. 1PS2 controller, countless disc based games, 2 gameboy advances, 2 ds, 1 dsi, 2 nunchucks, 1 wii motes and the list grows every day. and this is why we buy warranty in my house.
EDIT* i have almost broken a controller over street fighter 4 on the 360. m bison is impossible.

The very notion of breaking anything I own in anger is just completely baffling to me. I still have my original NES from 1989 and Game Boy from 1990 (and all the games I got at the time in working order) as a testament to taking good care of my expensive home electronics like a rational human being.

What about the opposite? I once fixed an NES in anger.
It was a front loader, but the carts wouldn't stay down, so you had to wedge something in there between the front of the cart and the front of the NES to keep them down so you could play. I used a small plastic ruler.
One day, after a particularly frustrating death in a game (which game I no longer recall, perhaps Zelda 2), I slammed my hand down on top of the NES with a vengeance. Pop! Out came the ruler, up came the game, end of story, right? Wrong.
When I pushed the game back down to try again, it stayed. Yes, I'd somehow fixed the mechanism with my furious blow. If only my PSX and PS2 could've been fixed so easily!
