The NES Turbo Remote was my favorite. I also like the Playstation remotes, all of them (official Playstation remotes, not any of the cheap ones like Mad Kats... those suck). I liked the Speed Pad for NES, where you can put the controler in the pad so you can play games like Galaga a lot easier, especially Track and Field.

The DC controller always seems nice until I get cramped hands. I am very partial to the Logitech wireless Dual Shock 2, but 4 shoulder buttons is a bit much. The 6 button controller is probably the most comfortable for me and it's a shame Sega didn't just add left and right shoulders to it for the Saturn, but instead also made it more boxy.

I love all the Nintendo controllers- they have all been very well built and durable.
The Dreamcast control is also very nice- which X-box kinda followed.
The Playstation controllers have never been comfortable to me( although I am a bit biased) but they need more to grip for the whiteknuckle players in the world.
If I had to pick 1 of all time- for its sheer simplicity and ease of function and control definately the original NES.

While the SNES was fine for its time, I love having the hand-grips of today's controllers.

Especially the N64. I just can't hate this marvelous piece of plastic. It feels so natural in my hands, and Nintendo did more with one analog stick than most Playstation games do with two of them.

The one advantage I see PS2 controllers having over N64 are games where you do have to do all the camera work yourself. I never thought running with the left stick while constantly shifting camera with the right stick would be easy, but it is.

So I'll just say that both the PS2 and N64 controllers are my favorite.

I can't stand the original NES controllers anymore. I had gotten a 3rd-party NES controller anyway that was curved and had little palm grips. It was fantastic.

I'm a huge fan of the GCN controller, when it's doing what it was meant to do (i.e. Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, etc...)

I love the N64 controller under the same circumstances.

Otherwise, I'd say:

SNES
Small Saturn pad
DC Pad just for innovation purposes

I think the PSX/Dual Shock/Dual Shock 2 is quite an accomplishment as well, just in terms of its versatility. It's been the controller behind a full 10 years of games, every genre imaginable, and there are surely have been more games made for use with that controller than with any other in history.

I also happen to think that as the current-gen controllers go, it's the best for fighting games, but that doesn't say much.

Wow! What a great thread I hadn't seen before!

My favorite controller is the Jaguar controller. It was completely ahead of its time, and no matter how much flak they are given, they were definitely the sign of things to come. Almost all controllers that followed (Saturn 3D, N64, Dreamcast, Xbox, GameCube, etc.) share the same basic grip design with the same placement of the d-pad and buttons. If you don't believe it, compare a Jaguar controller side by side to an N64 controller... especially a Jaguar Pro Controller. The Jaguar controller is really rather excellent.

I used to love the Dreamcast controllers just as much, but I found if I play a racing game for too long, my fingertips fall asleep from the triggers. Still, one of the better controllers out there -- but why Sega didn't go with six buttons does confuse me some.

I really do enjoy the GameCube controllers, especially the WaveBird. I bought one to see how I liked it, and have since gone completely wireless on my Cube... and my Xbox has taken a back seat mainly because I like the WaveBird controllers so much more.

As for Joysticks... Agetec Fighting Stick for the Dreamcast. Just awesome.

As for various peripherals... Samba Controllers for the Dreamcast and the Zapper for the NES (seriously, love it!).

For me, a tie between the Colecovision Super Action Controller and the Bally Astrocade pistol grip controller.

I'm telling ya what, that astrocade pistol grip controller was the best thing in the world. I remember playing football against my dad as a kid and finding out that by twisting the knob you could adjust the angle that you threw the football. Oh it was on!

1. SNES (always been my favorite and my first "bought at release" consoles)
2. N64 (awesome for some FPS like Quake 2 and the D-Pad is HUGE)
3. DC (better for Ikaruga/SHMUPS and for 2-D fighters)

The original U.S. Sega Saturn pad is still the best (non analog).

My fave controller has to be the NES pad, followed VERY closely by both the Controller S and the PS1/2 pads. Then, probably the Atari 2600 joystick (I love that pad).
