Whether it was from the arcade or right at home - what are your favorite games that have a light gun peripheral? Did you go for the American Lasergame FMV-style gun games or are simple target-shooting games like Duck Hunt more your style? Almost everyone loves Virtua Cop but perhaps you prefer the Lethal Enforcer brand.

Discuss.

And while you're at it, let us know what your favorite LIGHT GUNS were!

Favorite game? Point Blank, and any of the sequels. I loved the original in the arcade, and I was ecstatic to learn that they were being made for the Playstation. I, of course, quickly snatched up all 3.

I've also got a soft spot for Hogan's Alley and Duck Hunt. :)

Best Light Gun? I'd have to give that to the GunCon/GunCon2. As much as I like the old NES gun, the GunCon is incredibly accurate and just feels better to use.

Favorite light gun games...hmmmm:

Elemental Gearbolt (PS1)
Point Blank (1 especially but I like the whole series) (PS1)
Vampire Night (PS2)
Duck Hunt (cause it's so classic!)
Missile Command 3D (SMS)

I also really like Typing of the Dead....does that count? :D

As for my favorite gun, no question, the Guncom 1. Most accurate, fits my hand best, and very well built. I don't like the Guncom 2 as much because it's too light and I don't like the button placement as well.

HOUSE OF THE DEAD! It may be the best title for the Saturn... if it's not, it's a close second to Panzer Dragoon Saga.

: drool :

out of any game, any peripheral I think my weakness is a light gun game. I love them all, but my favorites are:

HotD 2
Time Crisis (only if I have something to use as a pedal)
Police 911 (and sequel, arc.)
Elemental Gearbolt
Confidential Mission
Point Blank 2

Yeah, I pretty much like 'em all. I know I left a bunch off, but that doesn't mean I don't like 'em, I just like these games even more. :)

Arcade game, home version is available for the Dreamcast. A definite must-have title.

Time Crisis 2, only because I have 2 Guncon2s and the machine gun effect with two guns is AWESOME, it's Ah-nuld-like!!!!

The only problem with TC2 is that 2-player sucks, the screens get tiny. Ninja Assault is much better with 2 players.

Time Crisis 3 is coming out soon, I hope it also allows two-gun machine gun action. I know the arcade version I played at Dave and Buster's had a lot more weapons, I guess they'll have to do the pedal thing using the side buttons on the Guncon2.

Never heard of TC: Project Titan, is that a PS2 game?

I liked Barnyard Blaster and Crime Buster (even with the driving scenes) for the XE.

But, the HotD series is also a favorite of mine.

Buh, apparently I'm going to have to splurge and pick up that DC gun that's been at a local gamestop for like three months because they want $15 for it...

$15 is a very fair price, $10 would be a steal. Try and get the MadCatz blasters if you can. You should definitely get two guns though, nothing beats two-player CM, HOTD2, etc.

Actually, it IS a Mad Catz gun... so I'll pick that up on the way home from work, assuming it's still there.

PS1 game. :) I think it was the last Namco LG release for the PS1.

I can't remember whay it was called, but it was at Arcades.
You had to quick draw to get the best time.
It had targets that would go by and at the last level it had an exploding cup you had to hit.
It wasn't a game using a monitor, it actually had the targets moving in the cabinet.
It was awesome. Every arcade that I went into that had it , I would set a record so low no-one could beat it. 8-)

What the fudge? Where's the Lucky & Wild fans at? Lucky & Wild was a 2 player arcade game where one player drove and fired one gun, while the other shot with another gun (or, if you played like my friends and I, one drove and the other went John Woo). That game kicked incalculable amounts of ass. After that I'd say HotD 2, AREA 51, Time Crisis and that Jurassic Park one (big ups to any game that shows a dinosaur shitting).

Point Blank is a great game; with two players it's an absolute riot. A friend and I used to have fits competing with one another, especially on one-bullet stages, like that darned falling leaf...

Elemental Gearbolt is a great game too, unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to play it with a light gun. The game is really tough to play with a controller (but I have beaten it a few times using the pad).

I have a soft spot for Gumshoe. It was one of the first games I ever owned, and I managed to beat it by setting my television in such a way that whenever I shot the gun at the TV, it would just hit everything. In Gumshoe, however, this has its consequences. So even though you could "cheat", you still had to get your timing down.

Elemental Gearbolt is easily my favorite of the genre. The game has a mood to it that's hard to describe, and even harder to forget. (Fun Fact: The animated intermissions were directed by Rin Taro, who helmed Metropolis, X, and the Final Fantasy OVAs, among other productions.)

The House of the Dead series comes in second, though. I love giving the arcade games the John Woo treatment.

For some reason, I also thought of Snatcher and Policenauts. Even though they're only 10 percent gun game, there's a lot of atmosphere invested in those shooting stages.

Area 51 in the arcade was always pretty sweet.

And as for Lucky & Wild...I can't believe that you and I are the only ones who remember that game. I burned up many hours of credits on it at my local arcade, usually doing the driving (because I'm damn good at arcade driving games :) ) but switching seats every now and then.

Time Crisis (1 or 2) is good, and I think the Guncon is probably the best home light gun peripheral yet made.

But my absolute favorite is still...Duck Hunt. Yeah, shitty old Duck Hunt, mainly because it's still the one gun game I'm consistently good at.

Now excuse me while I pop that goddamn snickering dog in the head... :vamp:
