Does anyone know what the launch titles for the NES, SMS and SNES were?
I believe they were Altered Beast, Space Harrier II and Super Thunderblade for the Genesis, am I wrong?
And how long was it before either system had any more games relased?

Actaully I'm mainly focused on North American/Canadian information as thats what I base all my research on; to look at all the subtle differences in how things were handled/marketed in each country/continent is too vast.
Thanks anyway tho

According to some nice physical evidence I have, Fantasy Zone and Ghost House were launch titles for the SMS. Though Alex Kidd in Miracle world didn't come along untill November 1, 1986, almost 6 months after the system's US launch.

In the USA, the launch titles for the SNES was:
Super Mario World (pack-in title)
Pilotwings
SimCity
F-Zero
Just like the N64 after it, we had to wait a good month-month and a half for any new games.

Yes it was, but when the original poster asked for launch titles, I assumed the games out on shelves when the system was released were the only games he was interested in.

no your probably right, thats why I put the question marks because I bought the system right when it was release and that was one of the games I picked up.

@DP: regarding the nes launch list. Take out DKjr. math and replace it with Wild Gunman and your list will be 100% accurate. DKjr. math was released in June of 1986 with all of the other DK games (plus Balloon Fight, Gumshoe, Mario Bros, Popey and Urban Champion).
I noticed this in the print guide also, but I thought it had been corrected by now.

I'm pretty sure Super Tennis was a SNES launch title as itt was in the SNES arcade game cabinet.
EDIT: and I see it was mentioned :) lol

Here is a very complete listing of all NES releases. It's very difficult to read through, but not too bad if you search for say "Oct 85" to get the first NES releases.

Our forum missed one title in the original 18 releases for NES, which was Wild Gunman according to the above link.

The NES launch games listed above are all correct.
I think the SNES was first available sometime in August of 1991, although I believe it's 'official' launch date was "September 1, 1991". I think the only games that were available before the Sept. 1 launch date were Super Mario World, F-Zero, and Pilotwings. SimCity and Gradius III were also released shortly afterwards.
Then, in September, we got:
Chessmaster
Drakkhen
Final Fight
Hal's Hole-in-One Golf
HyperZone
Populous
Super Bases Loaded
Super R-Type
U.N. Squadron
And Ultraman: Towards the Future in October.
In November, these were released:
ActRaiser
Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball
Darius Twin
Final Fantasy 2
John Madden's Football
Paperboy 2
RPM Racing
Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts
Super Tennis
True Golf Classics: Waialae Country Club
And finally, the rest of 1991 saw these released:
D-Force
Home Alone
Lagoon
Super Baseball Simulator 1.000
Super Castlevania IV
Super Off-Road
The SNES had a pretty good first couple of months.
The Genesis was released sometime in August of 1989(I can't seem to find an exact date on that.)
The games available from day 1 were Altered Beast, Space Harrier II, Last Battle, Tommy Lasorda Baseball, Super Thunder Blade, and Thunder Force II.
Later that same year, though I can't figure out exactly when, the Genesis got
Arnold Palmer Golf
World Championship Soccer
Rambo III
Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Golden Axe
Truxton
Super Hang-On
Mystic Defender
Zoom!
Revenge of Shinobi
Forgotten Worlds might have been released in December, but I remember that one coming out in January.
Games that were NOT released in 1989, despite conflicting reports, for the Genesis include Phantasy Star II, Herzog Zwei, Pat Riley Basketball, Strider, James Buster Douglas Boxing, and Joe Montanta Football(in fact, this one was delayed numerous times, and didn't even see release until after the first John Madden game in 1990)

I'm interested in knowing where you got the info. Domestic SMS launch information seems near impossible to find aside from the Hang On/Safari Hunt/Snail Maze pack ins.
