I made my regular visit to Gamestop today. I didn't pick anything up inside the store but when I made my usual trip out to the dumpster around back I did find a few things.

I found about a dozen Sega Genesis game boxes, many complete with manuals. But even more surprising was that 6 of themwere complete with the game in them. Yeah, they were all dirt common sports games but WTF, Gamstop would rather throw away complete and perfectly working Sega sports titles rather than give them to someone who would appreciate them? I mean, Chrsitmas is just around the corner and they're throwing away games? Real nice!

I'll probably end up bringing them to the Goodwill tomorrow, I'm sure they'll find someone who'll appreciate them

there's a chance those games weren't able to be taken in. If the games weren't taken in and the person left them, they either have to be taken home by an employee or thrown away because anything that could be construed as stock that doesn't belong to the store has to be removed somehow.

I wish my Gamestop dumpster was actually accesible. You have to go all the way around the shopping center to find it, and by then you dont know which one your looking at.

Thats so stupid. Just because the games are not the best or most expensive game, doesn't mean people have to throw them away. Good job on taking them to goodwill where they will be put to good use. :D

I know! I had a conversation with an EBGames employee the other day about them throwing away all the boxes and manuals for the GBA games, how I would never buy them without them. Although they do have the valid argument that it takes up retail space...how much space, honestly does a folded box and GBA manual really take up?

Couldn't they get a (albiet very small) tax-break by donating games to Good Will anyway?

The thing that burns me up about it is that they repackage the GBA games in boxes the same size as normal GBA boxes. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

For 1 game? Not much. For 100 games? A whole heck of a lot.

Not only that, you have to deal with the time to organize them and time to find them.... its just not worth it to them.

Is that a regional practice? None of my local EBs throw away boxes. It's not even done at the store where I work, and we're pressed for storage space, being about the size of a Wal-Mart restroom.

They may have been thrown out as non-working.

They may have been thrown out as non-working.

The only problem with that thought is that they all worked.

Oh and to add to the insult, today I found the actual Sega Geneisis console in the trash itself. All the parts were accounted for and it worked fine.

I also found a working SNES console, there were no cables or controllers and it was kind of dirty but once cleaned I tested it with my own controllers and AC adaptor and it worked fine as well.

My thought at this point is that they employees there are all on crack.

Keep in mind that usually when someone returns a game that they bought for an older system and claim that it doesn't work that unless the store has a working system to test it on, the employees can not verify the claim. Also, I doubt many employees would spend the time to hook an old system up to a cable ready tv to see if a 29 cent cartridge works.

I see where your all coming from, I mean you can be mad at them for throwing them out, but when it comes to the gamestop employees most of them consider them exactly what they are "old cheap games" - I know Id like to have them for my collection, but not everyones a collector...so they just disregard them as nothing and throw them out.

Ok, and the topic creator mentioned that why not give them to someone. Sounds all well and good, but look at it this way, again most people are just gamers and on a very limited budget. A guy comes in the store with 10.00 to spend, and he wants some games to play on his genesis. He goes to the bin and finds 1 4.99 game and 1 3.99 game, he goes to the counter and they employee says "oh, heres some genesis games we were going to throw out, you can have them", the guy thanks him, and says "well, I was going to buy these 2 but now that I have 6 FREE games I think I will pass". Hence, gamestop just lost a 10.00 sale.

Now you also may say to give them free with any purchase, the guy sees this deal and says WOW, GREAT!....puts his 10.00 worth of games back, picks up a .29 cart and buys that instead just to get the free games.

Its all buisness, and regardless of being nice, the store has to look out for sales before giving away free stuff to make the customers happy....thats why you have to make friends with the guys that work there and get them to hold this stuff for you with a promise you will stop by daily to "take there trash out". Ive yet to do this, but im working on it! I've got EB taken care of :)

Abandoned items are tossed. If the store isn't taking it, and the customer doesn't want it, into the trash it goes.

If you feel the desire to rummage through trash to give games to people that would want them, go right ahead.

Do you have anything better to do than complain? Haven't we beaten this topic to death in other discussions?

Criminey.

The point is not that your topic wasn't :band: :drinking: entertaining :guitar:   enough, the point is this topic is a dead horse that's been flogged so many damn times, there's nothing left to flog.

I don't even know why I wasted my time typing this, as a week from now I guarantee someone else will have started a new topic relating the shocking news that Gamestop/Funco/EB/whoever has some ridiculous policies.
