With the nightmare that was the VGA awards, why don't we brainstorm how we would do it ?

And with Joe and company's blessing, why don't we do it right ?

Why not have the first annual DPVG Awards Show Live at one of the game shows this year ?

ECGX, Philly Classic or the big Vegas show. (The only problem with the Vegas Show is it in the middle of the year. It would be easier to have a yearly awards show closer to Dec 31st.)

I'm talking a stage, screens, nominations, voting, Hall of Fame and the whole nine yards. Might be hard to get guests or recepients, but hey, we could mail it to them. And video tape the whole thing. Maybe even broadcast it live on the internet.

What do you all think ?

It would be nice to have some awards that actually meant something, wouldn't it? And, to me, DP represents an organization that's in it for all the right reasons.

What sort of an impact would the awards have on the games that were awarded, though? Do you think a DP award could one day appear on a game box?

Well, that was over fast. Thanks for bursting our bubble! LOL

Though, I think fcw3 was trying to talk TV awards, which don't seem entirely feasible to me.

I know about those. And what I'm thinking is that the awards show would be built from that list. Have the voting online and have the announcement of the winners at the show.

Maybe place a episode of Video Gaming Jeopardy in the middle. I'm thinking of it as something for an hour or so some evening at one of the shows. Toss in a contest/giveaway or two. Maybe have a classic gaming costume contest. I mean, announcing the winners would take, what, 5 minutes. There has to be some entertainment...

Of course, any sort of awards show that DP would put together would be better than last night's show...

The only awards worth jack squat are the Game Developers Choice Awards, voted on by the developers themselves, and given out at the annual Game Developers Conference. '04 will be the Choice Awards' fourth year.

Last year's winners: http://www.igda.org/awards/archive_2003.htm

Form what I hear, even those are fairly skewed.

Skewed in what way? I don't disagree with any of the '03 (or '02, or '01) winners.

Never heard of those awards before. Seems like a nice setup, clearly based off the Oscars format. I disgaree with a couple choices, but most of them were quite sound.

I think there should be a "Best Male Hero" and "Best Female Hero" and supporting charcters, like there's a "Best Actor and Best Actress" for the Oscars. Something for the best charcter in a game, that probaly would go into a RPG.

And nothing for a musical score? Or did I miss that? How about most innoviate and unique game?
