THANK YOU
finally, someone who appreciates Crystalis

I actually would have said this too, but I pulled the cart out of it for a christmas gift (gotta spread the joy of Crystalis) and haven't gotten the cart again since then.

After thinking about it, I realize that while there's lots of stuff in my collection, I can't say any of it is exactly "prized." There's a few things I won't sell, mostly b/c they are cheap and have some sentimental value (like the Chrono Cross I won in a review writing contest), but nothing that I would be heartbroken without. It's all just games and as much as I love em they aren't as important to me as family and friends and things like that. I guess since I've given up my collection in the past, I just don't grow that kind of attachment to anything.

Out of sentimental value, I'd have to say Megaman Legends for the psx. I will always love that game no matter how many times I play it. Easily ranks in my top 5 or 10.

Out of monetary value...that's an interesting question. Most of my individual games aren't worth huge amounts, but I did pick up my Sharp NES 'Game TV' in the wild for $40 and I definitely prize that in my collection.

I'm only 14 at the moment, and started collecting a year or so ago so I don't have anything super neat. I do have some that are in demand/ sought after though

*Alfred Chicken (NES) (Good deal on it- 8 bucks at slackers. I see it go on Ebay all the time for around 20 dollars loose)
*Super Bonk (SNES)
*Battletoads/Double Dragon (SNES)
*Sparkster (SNES)
*Widget (NES)
*Bucky O Hare (NES)
*Old decals from closed game stores- including Raccoon Mario, Spring Wario, M&L SSS, Pikman, Starfox. I also have an old Funcoland cutout with their little bunny mascot. Needless to say, they all look good in my game room.

I'm hoping that as I get older- my mom won't give a shit about what I do with my extra cash. She goes ape shit when I start doling out 20 dollars for some of the classic Nintendo carts that are a bit more rare than my usual picks. She also hates that I look for the boxes and instructions as well- she thinks it's stupid when it's actually a good way to increase the value of my stuff. For whatever reason, I'm also considered "spoiled" just because I spend money on games. These days, I earn my keep and even pay my mom to drive me to different stores just so I can spend more there. I don't spend it all in one place, though- I often get various computer programs, books, video game oriented t-shirts and accessories, food and others with the money I get. I do a lot of babysitting for my little cousin (who's also addicted to video games- only other person in the family who even sits down and plays them XD) which racks in about 10 dollars a day (for about 5-8 hours), but it's not often. I try and get cool stuff- but the truth is that it's just me and my mom and although we don't do without anything we're very low on extra cash for my things.

If your mom has a credit card, she can open an Ebay or Amazon account and when you find good deals in the wild that you don't need, you can pick them up and resell them. It's a great way to build a collection if you don't have a ton of money.

We do that alot- but she hates using credit cards. She's a woman of about 50 years old- and of course is technologically impaired. She can't even send Email (copying and pasting crap) without my guidance. She also is afraid of extra bills piling up from the credit cards.

I've gotten some cool shit on Ebay with my money, stuff I'd never possibly find out here in St.Louis where there's no gamestores selling vintage stuff except for a Game Trader 10 miles away. That of course requires me to BEG to go, even when I pay mom and pay for my stuff.

My most prized game is Brigandine Grand Edition. It's a remake of Brigandine Legend of Forsena, released on the same system in fact. The game is somewhat rare but can be found, and as an example I'd mention that it's much rarer than Ys Book 1 and 2 that can be found easier but still limited quantities.

It's a great game and doesn't sell for as much as it should considering its rarity. Valkyrie Profile, Tactics Ogre, Suikoden 2, and even the original Brigandine are common and sell for more.

I like to play games just as much as I collect though, so if I didn't like the game then I wouldn't be listing it. Brigandine and Brigandine Grand Edition are two of my favorite games.

I've got all kinds of crazy stuff that're considered "collectibles", but one game that I was very thankful to get a hold of is Ys for PC-88. Even if I can't play it on real hardware right now, it's entertaining enough just to marvel at all the included materials with radically different artwork than would later be used (brown haired chubby Adol, different (evil) logo, etc). The MSX version looks similar, but I believe that the packaging/contents were streamlined a bit.

Growing up there were only two arcade games that I committed myself to someday owning: Black Tiger and Street Fighter II Champion Edition. As an early adult I managed to buy both locally as my first two arcade games/cabinets.

My FFII and FFIII US SNES carts. Compared to some of the rarities in this topic they're not much but I treasure them. What's funny is I don't even remember where I got II from, or when lol. It's just a blank. I got FFIII at a rinky dink pawn shop for $10. Just blind luck.

I've also got a 3DO but I don't suppose that should really count. I also have Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence with all the original packaging. I didn't think it was worth a ton until I checked on eBay one day.

Same with Ico. I bought it for $5 at Superstore when it was being cleared out. Original black label with the booklet, just a snapped case which I replaced. Smartest $5 I ever spent. If I had any clue this thing would become as sought after as it is, I would've bought every last one in the bin.

A pain I'm sure many gamers feel lol

My copy of Rescue Terra 1 for the 2600. Mainly because it was the strangest find ever. I found it outside, in the back of an old junk yard/ thrift store, underneath an old wooden bin full of snorkel gear. My buddy reached under the bin to pull out a snorkel fin and behold, out popped the Resuce Terra 1 cartridge. Since he was not a collector he just handed it over to me. They didnt even charge me for it. It now lives on my display shelf.

I have games that are rarer, and I have games that are more valuable, but my pick comes down to a tie: My complete, almost-like new copy of Crusader of Centy, and my complete copy of Ys Book I & II are very likely my two most-prized games that I currently own. I just absolutely adore both of them: fun, colorful, quintessentially old-school, easy to get into, and neither is over too soon. (Click the photo if you wanna see it bigger.)

Nice, both excellent treasures.

My most prized game - damn that's a tough call. I don't have anything worth HUNDREDS but that's not what constitutes a "prized game" I would say.

I'd probably have to say Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, and Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast. None of those aren't worth TOO much, but they aint' cheap either. And not only that but I enjoy them highly. So much that I rarely play them on purpose so I do not tire of them.

WOW. Since I was a kid I wanted to get Shining Wisdom (I know not Shining Force) for the Saturn. Mainly because at the time it came out I was a huge SNES Zelda fan and the review said it was a clone. It got a crappy score, but I thought if it was like Zelda it would be good enough for me.

I think my most prized game is my CIB copy of Little Samson for the NES. Not only is it worth a few $$, it's also an excellent game that I tend to replay once every year.

Value wise though, it might be my complete, original releases of Mushihimesama and Ibara for the PS2. I bought them brand new because I'm an avid shmup gamer. I just can't believe how much they've gone up in value.

I had Spider-Man Web of Fire for 32X which I had bought in the 90's when the 32x was dying, I picked it up either at toys r us or kBee toys, for $5, but when I found out a few years back that it was a collectors Item I sold them on ebay for like $90.

Also last year I picked up like 20 Sega CD/Saturn games, most sealed for $60 total at a game store on SA, among them 2 sealed copied of Keio Flying Squadron which I flipped on ebay for around $400 for both.

While it's not rare at all, I have a lot of affection for the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cart that came with my NES back in the 80's, if just because it was the first video game that was legitimately mine and mine alone, and I still have it to this day. (Along with the manual, at least.)

As for other things.. ...Hmm, I'm the sort that tends to have a lot of prizes that I'd never ever let go of, especially SNES RPGs, although extremely few of them have manuals even.

But a few notables..

Chrono Trigger and FF6: I've told the story before in another thread, about how I only got into these games a bit after they came out, so I had to get them used. By sheer luck they both showed up at a game shop at the same time soon after I started looking for them, and I traded in a few NES and SNES games to afford them(which I still regret, but I'm re-buying them still at least).

Tragically they only came with copy machine manuals, but both for being great games and the sacrifices I made to get them, I value these carts greatly.

Super Robot Wars: Original Generations 1 & 2(GBA), complete with everything. I lucked out and found both of them new at EB while looking for something else, and snapped them both up instantly. SRW stuff coming out overseas is pretty rare, and they didn't get a massive run.

Suikoden 2, complete. I got it as a birthday present from someone who didn't know much about video games back when it came out, and I hadn't even heard about the series at the time. I lucked out because not only did this game get really expensive later on, but if not for getting it I would have missed out on a really fine game series as well.

Hm... I have a lot of games, but few that have much value on their own. Though perhaps that isn't the best criteria.

I guess I'd have to go with sealed copies of Power Politics and The Doonesbury Election Game; two titles that my father developed in the early 90's. There's some sentimental value there, you know?

That's awesome, and I think it's exactly the sort of prized game a lot of us like to hear about. I suppose "prized" could mean "worth the most money" for some people (I believe there's already a thread for that in Classic Discussions), but I think a lot of people would be willing to let that valuable game go from their collection before letting go of a game they actually have some sort of attachment to -- maybe it was a gift from a dear friend or relative, something they just like to play often, or has an interesting story behind it.

Another game for me would be McDonald's Treasureland Adventure for Genesis. My best friend gave it to me for my birthday and while it's not my favorite game to play and it's certainly not worth much money, I had always wanted to add it to my collection and he gave it up from his own collection so I could have it. I'll always keep and enjoy it for that reason.

That criteria reminds me of why I was so intent on finding another copy of Blaster Master, after I sold my original one long ago(part of the bunch I sold for FF6 and CT).

One of my friends was obsessed with the game, and was going to get me a new copy to share the love, but then tragically ended up passing away before that time came. Now that I managed to snag a copy of it anyway, I highly value it because of him. I plan to find the proper Nintendo Power issue to help me with it, and do a full classic-style playthrough of it when I have some more time off. Just kind of a late send-off for a bud, I suppose.

This was came to mind for me and I unfortunately couldn't think of anything that fit the bill.

In fact, I'm trying to conjure up anything that might have a significant sentimental value and I'm drawing a blank. I'm sure there has to be something in my collection that would resonate something but it mildly amazes me that nothing comes to mind right away. Most of my collection is boxed up in the basement and I'd have to physically go through it all and do a little memory recall on what I grab.

I have something more sentimental vs. valuable than anyone's on the list. My CIB copy of Ms. Pac-Man for Sega Genesis. Why? Well my grandma's sister bought this for me when I was in 1st grade. It was my 3rd Genesis game (a pack-in copy of Sonic 1 and Taz-Mania being the first two).

Where it holds the most value is the fact that this was the only video game I had where I would come into the living room from somewhere else and find my grandma playing it. All the time, she probably used it just as much as I did. My grandma passed away a few years ago.

When I was in high school, I wanted a laptop really badly and sold off all of my cartridge based games pre-Nintendo 64 except for Game Gear (since nobody wanted it) to be able to afford it. I figured I could just emulate everything I sold. When I got a job at Safeway the fall after I graduated, my grandma died.

A few months later it was December and I decided since I was making money now, I would buy an Atari 2600 again and start collecting again. I started getting system after system and when it came time for me to get a new Genesis system, I went back to the privately owned game store where I had traded in most of my non-Nintendo stuff. He actually still had my same Game Boy Pocket with the protective leather cover that was sold exclusively at Target by Performance although he sold the box, and of course a few of my CIB Genesis games. Including my original copy of Ms. Pac-Man that my grandma played with me.

So now it sets on my shelf and won't be sold off again. It reminds me how she spent a lot of time with me as a kid, even giving the video games I played so much a try and enjoying one.

Really? I got mine for about £12 off Amazon (PAL Version). Perhaps it's rarer in North America or I just got lucky. I'm more concerned about getting Holy Ark, which is going to cost around £30 - £40 or even worse Shining Force CD. Unless I get very lucky and find it in the wild, it's going to cost me around £100, if not more.

Woody Pop for the Sega Mark III (along with the Mark III system itself and the paddle controller).

Also I'd have to say my Commodore 64 5-1/4" floppy disk that contains Gyruss, Gorf, and Jungle Hunt. My dad had acquired that somewhere back in 1985 and I played the heck out of those games (some other games are on there too). He gave it to me a few years later. I still treasure it. A close second would be the (copied) disks I got with my C64 when I bought my own in 1988: Boulder Dash II, Radwarrior, Leaderboard Golf, a music disk, and a few others.

Hmm...interesting question. I don't have one particular "prized" game/system, but if I had a list, it'd be this:

Tengen Tetris: got this (loose, unfortunately) at a Goodwill for $2. Next to The New Tetris on N64, still the best version on cartridge IMO.

My original NES: I still have my toaster NES from 1988. It's had its pins replaced and the controllers had their innards replaced years ago so it continues to play wonderfully. I still have the gray light gun as well.

My uncle's 2600: Due to intertwining marriages, my wife and I have some of the same uncles and aunts (and yet we're not related). Growing up we'd play our uncle's Atari 2600 in their basement while the adults did their pow-wow upstairs. Over the years it went to one of our cousins who gave it to me as payment for fixing his computer.

Pac-Man puppet: Not a game or system but still something game-related I consider "prized". Won this when I was living in Las Vegas back around 1981-1983. Went to the upstairs area in Circus Circus and played one of those water gun target games. I won him (patterned after the arcade art sans feet, which fits over your hand and forearm) and a Ms. Pac-Man (which just fit over the hand). Lost the missus in the move back to Wisconsin.

Dragon Warrior IV for Famicom: got this from Queen of Felines back during the first (?) Secret Santa. I had never seen a complete Famicom game before and this totally knocked my socks off. I have it displayed on top of one of the Atari game holder "spires" of my "Ninten-Tower".

My CIB copy of Starflight for the Genesis. Got it when I was 16. Still has my original save.

My most prized and sentimental item in my collection is my original Vectrex. I asked for this for Christmas of 82 and got it, which was a complete surprise. I got the Vec, an extra controller, and Armor Attack and that game was used for about 3 months straight! It was constantly on, and I'd come home from school or work to find my mom and stepdad playing Mine Storm on it! My stepdad passed away 6 years ago, but the memories of him sitting playing the Vectrex, since he was NOT a gamer by any stretch, still bring a smile to my face. He was pretty good too!

A close second is my copy of Electronic Fun magazine from June 1983 where I got my question to the editor answered about the Vectrex! The answer makes me look like an idiot, but in a previous issue they actually did mention a "Voice synthesis interface" which I thought would be like the Intellivision's add-on.

I respectfully disagree. The older "Holy Grail" topic that the newer one was merged with specifically asked about an item you had been searching for but didn't yet have (based on rarity or because you liked it), and the newer one asked about a game/item you already had and treasured, which could be interpreted in a more sentimental fashion (i.e. not worth much but worth a lot to you alone).

I agree that the newer one should be merged with an older one if a similar one exists, just not with the "Holy Grail" one.

I agree here. Not the same. One was "most prized possession" other is "most wanted to add to collection". Two totally different ideas.

Reading through the posts is odd because somewhere a couple of pages ago the subject changes from "what I really want to own someday" to "I have this really neat XXX" and it's just awkward.

I suppose it would have to be Earthbound CIB as that's my favorite console to collect for even though it's by far the most expensive of the Nintendo family. As for a Holy Grail of my collection I suppose either my loose Chrono Trigger or my complete Pocky & Rocky.

Not sure if this is appropriate to the thread, but my holy grail has long been Jurassic Park pinball. This is largely due to cost, partly due to lack of space for housing said item. Someday though, someday.

Videogame related, probably an Outrunners side-by-side arcade cabinet. Same deal as above except amplified, where the heck do I put this monstrosity??

Console related, definitely the pink Hello Kitty Dreamcast, CIB.

One of my long time Holy Grails of gaming has been the ASCii Stick Zero 3
This is one of the few optical joysticks produced for home consoles and the only optical joystick with rumble feature for Playstation.

After using the equivalent ASCii Stick FT on Dreamcast it has been unbearable to have had to go back to using clicky joysticks for PS and PS2.

I have searched for the ASCii Stick Zero 3 on eBay since around 2003 or 2004, it only came up for sale a couple times. The very first time was complete in box with the promo Street Fighter stickers and all original materials, however the metal base was corroded and the price was nearly $200 with shipping iirc.
I did not see another one listed for some years. In the interim I also posted want ads on a number of forums.

A couple years ago a seller (who currently has the same unsold stick at the same price on eBay) posted a loose ASCii Stick Zero 3. Tnhe pictures were out of focus, but something looked wrong with the graphic top-sheet. After messaging the seller, he admitted that the top sheet is peeling back from hand perspiration and that the joystick shaft is also corroded from sweat. He has relisted is a handful of times over the years and it remains unsold at $100.

Late this summer, I stumbled upon a seller offering both the ASCii Stick Zero 3 and also a programmable ASCii Stick (Pro ?)
I messaged him to inquire further about condition and functionality. Everything seemed good, so I purchased it for a little over $100 shipped.

This was it! I finally had it! The ultimate joystick for PS and PS2!!!
As a serious Rez player I had long ago purchased the Trance Vibrator, unfortunately it was pointless to play the game with a joystick that lacked vibration function. I own the only Hori stick which has vibration, but that stick is floppy and clicky and the buttons are poor. So I never played Rez on PS2 effectively (high scoring / pink butterfly ending).

First thing I do when the ASCII Stick Zero 3 arrives is dig out Rez and the Trancevibrator, hook up some headphones, get comfortable and ready to jam out. Bah!!!! What!!?! The friggin thing doesn't work!!!!

This is already long winded so lemme cut to the chase. The ASCii Stick Zero 3 does not function on almost all PS2 games!
I have never before nor since heard of any PS1 joystick not functioning on PS2, but this one, my Holy Grail, is not fully compatible with PS2 games!

Of course I contacted the seller and he says it worked on the games he played. What to do?! I tested it on probably 50 PS2 games and the only ones it works for were Shooting Love (Trizeal) and Metal Slug 6. Interestingly the controller does not work with Metal Slug 6 on the Complete Collection, only on the stand-alone JPN import release!
On all other PS2 games the joystick (in neutral position) sends a signal of up, and or diagonal up/left. The cursor on a menu just flips rapidly up, or if I manage to start a game the on screen response is stuck to the "Up" position. In Rez the cursor just gets stick in the upper left corner of the screen! ARRRGGHhh! :grrr:

I'd already done thorough research on this controller on the internet during the years I was trying to purchase one. I proceeded to spend even more hours looking for reports of this PS2 incompatibility - I have found none!

It pains me to look at it, knowing I'll never have a good PS2 joystick with rumble function to play Rez (until I build my own), but it is one of the only optical joysticks for the original Playstation, so I still put it to use with shmups and platformers on that system. Just sucks having to switch controllers when I pop in a PS2 game. :(

Without question, this is my holy grail- not just for SMS games, but for my entire collection. I've been looking for it for over 6 years now, and despite recently getting access to considerable resources that I would like to use to purchase it, no one seems willing to sell! Se la vie :)

Nintendo 64 DD with some games. Don't need the entire lot, but would definitely want to pick up F-Zero X Expansion pack and Sim City. Had considered buying one years ago, when prices weren't too bad, but never did. Now, the best prices I am seeing are definitely out of my price range. But oh well, maybe one day.

A Gradius arcade cab. I'm terrible at Gradius, but the games are so addictive, I love them.

I'd love to get this (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10674) too - Hebereke's Popoon is a great game and me and my friends absolutely love it and can play it for hours. It'd be great to try and put that in an actual cab.

No doubt all my wishes and wants will change though, they always do.

I'd love to own a fully working Turtles in Time arcade machine/cabinet. I'm sure with some effort I could track one down but I don't have that kind of money.

That would be the crowning gem of my mancave.

Mine at this point are pretty much all arcade games. They are the big ones too that I would need a house to contain them.

The 2 I want really bad are Top Skater and a sit down Initial D. I have not played the versions of Initial D that were not on Naomi, but having a Naomi Initial D would be awesome, because as far as I know, I could start at v1 and work my way through just using the newer versions and security key things

I can never remember if I've posted in this thread before! Anyways...

If we're talking about no issues with space, money, ect I'd totally want to own a Aliens vs Predator cabinet. But even if I got one for free, I'd have no place to put it! I'd love to own a candy cab that could do MAME :D That would be awesome.

Besides that, I can't really think of anything. There's plenty of games I want to play that are expensive as hell (PDS, Snatcher, Various shooters), but nothing that's grail worthy.

Although I've always wanted to own Magical Chase, so I guess getting that would be a grail in its own :)

For me, since I'm going for a complete Genny collection, it comes down to knowing that at one point or another, I'm going to have to battle the notion of getting Miracle Piano Teaching System and Outback Joey mint CIB (including all hardware). Second to that would be the mallet 9 button pad for Wack a Critter. But honestly, these would be for the love of the art. If I were to put one single game up on a pedestal, it would have to be (for the time being) M.U.S.H.A. mint CIB or better.
