I don't think a list of this has been done yet. No prototypes but "special releases" do count. All regions are a go. PAL NTSC or JAP its all good for this list.

NES NWC gold cart ($4,000)
Ultimate 11 Neo Geo (Super Sidekicks 4) ($4,000)

A complete Stadium Events went for $1800 on eBay a few months ago. I think we also have to note what format they'd be in. A complete Metal Slug probably would go for significantly less than it has complete. (Probably).
I'd count the Campus Challenge '92 (A re-do, more or less, of the NWC), save for the fact that it's highly unlikely one would surface, to actually get a value on it.
A complete Rodland goes for about $300-$400. I wouldn't count it if you're doing world releases.
Adam's top 7 are pretty much it for the $1000+ titles in the NTSC realm. We probably can fill that out completely to 10 if we count Euro/JAP stuff. (Darius Alpha?). I'd suggest making 2 lists, for the benefit of non-US members. Other than that, suggestions for more titles to fill out the list, NTSC-wise:
- Panesians
- Myriad 6 in 1
- Numerous 2600 titles
- Bounty Bob for 5200 (?)
- DKC and Starfox Comp carts
- Genesis Blockbuster Cart (Same area as Campus Challenge, we have yet to see the full potential of the value of this cart)
- DBZ Final Bout GT (At times)
- INTV Congo Bongo (?)
- DC Sonic Limited Edition (?)
- O2 Power Lords (?)
- Probably more Neo Geo titles than I know of
- TG16 Magical Chase
There are definitely more... just a quick list.

Here are the top in my opinion:
1-Kizuna Encounter Neo Geo European Test Cartridge ($10,000)
The game is NOT PAL, there are only three known to exist, it was never released, the three that came out are basically promotional carts that were internal that never made it to wide release. This game came out in Japan and goes for about $600, and for MVS arcade systems and runs $125. Collectors are basically paying for the Kizuna Encounter insert and English manual and cart sticker. The game itself is the same in any country when you plug it into the system...(never understood Neo Collectors)
2-Ultimate 11 (Super Sidekicks 4) ($4,000)
Another European title, this is the RAREST released game ever for any system ever in any country. Print run is limited to even less than the normal 500 (somewhere around 100) English version, can be played on any Neo system (no country lockout since this is not a PAL game)
3-Metal Slug ($2,500)
There are rarer games for NEo Geo, but not as in demand. Japanese version goes for about $1,000 less
4-Quiz Chibi Deluxe ($1,800)
Crazy Japanese title. RARE and Pricey. Neo Geo Home Cart release in Japan.
5-Nintendo World Championship Cart ($1,500)
There are 115 of these that were given away, and there are a few that exist at Nintendo internally. We all know the story of the 1990 Powerfest Championships and how Thor Aackerlund is god. The gold one is worth around $4,000+.
6-Virtual Bowling ($1,200)
Pulled off shelves in Japan at the end of the Virtual Boys lifecycle. Released at the same time as Virtual Lab which is rare in itself. Athena's title is NOT the same as Nester's Funky Bowling in the USA.
7-Neo Turf Masters ($1,000)
This IS a US Neo Geo title in HIGH DEMAND. Released as Big Tournament Golf in Japan, complete copies of this game are bank.
8-Darius Alpha
PC Engine contest funny tough Card to get, and it's a shooter of all things.
other than that, throw in VIDEO LIFE, MAgicard, and Gauntlet for 2600, and you have some pretty rare pricey games.
Intangibles:
Campus Challenge 92, NEVER given away to the winners at this Nintendo event. It is a triple game pak with Dr. Mario, Super Mario 3, and Pinbot. It does exist, but only internally at Nintendo.
Blockbuster Genesis WC II. Sequel to the DKC BB Comp Cart. There are less BB carts, and it is unknown that any were given away to winners. The only ones on ebay have went for far less because of the lack of Genesis collectors...(nothing is really valuable for SG)
Starfox/DKC comp carts. (Too many exist) They were sold in Nintendo Power at one time. Price range for each is between $200-300.
SNES Powerfest '94—I'll bet you SNES freaks forgot about THIS ONE! Ken Griffey Jr, Super Mario Kart and Super MArio World on one pak. Same as CC, none have surfaced...yet.....
Famicom stuff that is pricey...
All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros...Contest prize, runs around $400
Dragon Ball Z 2 Memorial Edition
Tag Team Wrestling Special Not for Resale (600 exist)
Hyper Olympic Special (Track & Field)
Zeta Gundam Hot Scramble Final Version (1, 000 only)
EXED Eyes Gold Members cart
Gradius Archimendes
Tailor Made
Etc. There are others, but these are the creme of the crop.
And never forget all those bizarre PC Engine (Soldier Blade contest; etc) Shooter contest games.

Yeah, Air Raid is certainly 1000+, right? As far as post-16 bit, there's very few titles that even sell for 100 bucks, let alone 1000. Taxi 2 Le Jeu and Sonic LE are both under 75 in most sales, DBZ GT can go up to 200 at times, Suikoden 2 up to 100, Panzer Dragoon US to 175.
If we include hardware, though, this list can get mighty interesting. As far as released hardware is concerned, can anything top the Sega.com custom dreamcast? 78 made, usually sell for around 2 grand. What other hardware sells in the 500+ area, any region?

They sent out over 100 Atlantis 2 carts I don't know how many survived but I would guess more than 10.
I asked the guys at AA for a bit of help on the 2600 games. Here is basic list of the top Atari 2600 games. Its still up for speculation esp games with ?? after them.
Air Raid complete $4,000 ??

Ultravision Karate complete $2,000 ??
Gauntlet complete $2,000 ??

Well one sale doesn't really determine the value unless its pretty close to a one of a kind item.
That 1700 is ALOT more than other complete copies have sold for in the past. I considered it an isolated case.
Now Dave, you are more knowledgeable than me on the NES market. So what would you say is the value of a complete Stadium Events. Honestly I thought it to be closer to the 1k mark
And should the Kizuna Encounter count as a proto, not being released in any form other than internal?
I don't know anything about this one either. I kinda thought it was considered more of a "special release" than a prototype. Having a case and instructions but I dunno.
The NEO GEO guys seems to list it with all other released games so thats why I counted it. They always listed prototypes in a seperate listing and this wasn't included.

The Problem with Kizuna is that only 3 exist. There was no "release" period. I have no idea why they include it in the list when it is pretty apparent it never came out and some lucky bastards got some stock/prelims from Europe.

Valid point. A complete one *should* be worth about $800-$1000. Once again, we don't have another auction/sale to compare it to. I agree, it shouldn't crack the top 10.

Here are the top in my opinion:
Starfox/DKC comp carts. (Too many exist) They were sold in Nintendo Power at one time. Price range for each is between $200-300.
And whats about the Starwing Competition (PAL English/French/German) I think they are much harder to find then the USA Starfox Competition Cartridge. English version maybe to the easiest from the PAL versions. I know maybe 5 or a bit more collectors, who own the English PAL version. But I have found noone else, who owns a German version. And I have only heard from a French version, but know noone who own one.
So how much worth are they?

Respectfully, this is not true.
Furthermore there is nothing "special" / "proto" / or "Test" about the European Kizuna Encounter release. It was a normal english home cart release.
People like to think that there are only 3 of this game, but its release was actually quite ordinary. English games during that period in 96 were released exclusively through SNK Europe (and maybe Asia). Because so few people claim to own this game it has set off rampant speculation that english copies were "recalled" or that it was a "test run" (ridiculous). This is all just SPECULATION. The fact is, just about every non-KOF English release from 96 to 2000 was produced in so few quantities that maybe 3 or 4 copies of each game pop up for sale each year.
The people who bought Kizuna encounter lived in Europe in 96 and put it on their shelf to collect dust. Only a fraction of those people even know about neo-geo.com where this "3 known copies" claim perpetuated...
"Pachinko" (not Pachinko II) for SG-1000 once went for 300000 yens (about $2650) on Japan Auction. It was bundled with 7 other games but they don't have that much value (20000 yens max).
Rare SG-1000 games often skyrocket in Japan
(in contrary to rare SMS games always cheap, good thing :)

Mr. Boston: My high school English teacher. Actually I've only seen on exchange hands. Really weird. Can't tell if it' released or not.
Minestorm cart: Let's not get crazy here, Adam's price is probably top end. It's typically a $200-300 item. I can see an idiot like me throwing $500 at it in desperation. Not sure why Adam paid $500 for it, him not being an idiot, aside from it's elusiveness. I've seen several of those exchange hands, probably one a year or more will surface. Air Raid may only make an appearance every few years, like Adventurevision stuff.

<minimod Mode>
Staying on topic
Please limit your topics to BUYING, SELLING and TRADING items only. Asking questions of an item's worth, or what is a good price for an item does not really belong here. These types of question should be posted in the Video Game Forum (or Everything eBay if you see it on there), or even go look up the Online Rarity Guide. The only exception to this is an attempt to resolve a deal here (e.g. if people go missing and haven?t been heard from in a while).
Shouldn't this be better on the VG Forums? like I said, I cannot see someone asking for any of those games or someone offering them in sale/trade...
</minimod Mode>
And I believe that paying for anything higher than $500 is insane. YES, I can afford it, but more than that for a single game is simply madness. My 0.002 cents ;)

Really, I always thought that the reason for all the controversy was because nobody had an Air Raid box to provide incontrovertible evidence one way or another to end the speculation.
Either way, it deserves a spot on the list in this thread for as long as it continues to hold its value.

You may still make money on that if you sell it. I don't know that you overspent, but your price was probably at the upper end of its range. Now to find someone who wants it bad enough to overspend on it.
If someone says 'I'm selling my Superarecart this week on eBay' they are unlikely to get more than it's expected high price. If same person makes it known that they have the cart and might sell it, in a month or a year, they may be able to name their price to a private individual (rather than whoever happens to be bidding this week on eBay). Thus, I suggest that if you have something special, wait until the right opportunity to sell.
Of course, it all depends on your idea of 'special.' I'm not talking Chase the Chuckwagon rare. More like Video Life rare. Or Minestorn cart rare.

I've heard that it reputadly changed hands privately once for Y920,000 (~$9000), but there's no way to confirm that.

I had a pirate Genesis Tetris cart I sold to Maxlords at CGE for $6. What is this Megadrive Tetris thing?
And the whole list things comes down to:
Lumper vs. Splitter
I think four lists (if we most officiate such) would be appropriate:
NTSC
Jap
PAL
Neo-geo

Sega ported their System-16 Tetris coin-op to the Mega Drive in 1989, but it was never released after the well-known Tetris legal wranglings determined they didn't have any rights to the home version. They were all supposedly destroyed, but as is often the case, a tiny number of copies (thought to be a single-figure amount) somehow escaped. It's far and away the most valuable Mega Drive game, probably the rarest Sega cart full-stop.
The bootleg pirates are relatively common, and look nothing like the original:

I see now, that's a cool game to collect in my eyes, so expensive though. Since that was a promotional game and most posters in this thread say it is a specialty game, shouldn't that go in the US releases now since it's technically not a prototype just insanely limited run?

And there's no evidence to suggest that it's a "test cartridge".
