Just curious to see what the numbers will be like.
Feel free to post & list them all if you'd like.

ps- Handhelds not included, just because I can.

does having a SMS and a SMS II count as having 1 or 2 consoles?

IGotTheDot
12-18-2003, 10:42 PM
Genesis 1 2 and 3. Cool I have like 25 consoles. :)

Rogmeister
12-18-2003, 10:51 PM
I'm not including two consoles I will be either giving or selling to others so that will leave me with the following...

1. Atari 2600
2. Atari 5200
3. Atari Jaguar (2)
4. Super Nintendo
5. Nintendo 64 (2)
6. Nintendo GameCube
7. ColecoVision
8. Playstation
9. Playstation 2
10. Sega Saturn
11. Sega Genesis
12. Sega Dreamcast (2)

So if you count duplicates (since I have 2 each of 3 consoles) I have 15...

I also have just one handheld, an Atari Lynx but didn't list it since you said it doesn't count...

*lol* You people are too good at finding loopholes!
I'll count the 1 & 2 as separate consoles, I suppose..
But duplicates of the same console shouldn't count :)

I really hadn't thought about it, but I guess I'm in the 15+ bracket (more or less).
1) 3DO
2) Atari 2600
3) Atari 5200
4) Atari 7800
5) Atari XE
6) Atari Jaguar
7) ColecoVision
8) Commodore 64
9) Sega Dreamcast
10) NES
11) Super NES
12) TurboGrafx 16
13) Sega Genesis
14) Intellivision
15) Sony PlayStation
16) Tandy Color Computer 3
... I thought that I had another one or two, but I can't think of them offhand.
*EDIT*
Ack! I forgot about:
17) Odyssey 2
18) Sega Saturn
...Now I wonder if there still isn't something that I've forgotten.
*EDIT AGAIN*
19) TI/99
It really didn't seem like I had this many... O_O

Atari 2600, 5200, 7800; NES, Odyssey, Odyssey 2, Colecovision, Intellivision, PS1, Game Boy Color - that brings us to 10.

If you count computers that take cartridges:
C64, TI 99/4A, Atari 400 - that brings us to 13.

If you count an Apple II, then 14.

If you count dedicated consoles, such as my collection of Odyssey x00/x000 pong clones, make it 22.

Your Game Boy color doesn't count (no handhelds) and neither does the Lynx!
Hmm.. do we want to count clones?

If we're excluding handhelds and duplicates/clones, I think I have exactly 16 (from memory). Mine would be (including dupes/clones):

Atari 5200 [4] - (1) 2-port, (3) 4-ports
Atari 7800
Atari Jaguar [3], 2 Jag-CDs
Intellivision
Odyssey 2
Colecovision
Vectrex (w/Multicart!)
NEC TurboGrafx-16

By Pong clones, I meant that these are different models of Pong/Odyssey knockoffs - not duplicates of the same machine: Odyssey 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 2000, 3000, 4000...if you want to count those. :) My question about counting them was more regarding whether or not you'd consider a dedicated, non-cartridge machine to be a console for this poll's purposes.

Ah, what the heck, no time for a post edit but I guess I'll tally them up anyways (hey, if somebody else asks, it's not bragging, right?)

Infogrames (j/k)
Atari MMDC (using Roman notation)

N side
Famicom (Sharp Twin; new in box :)
NES (boxed)
SNES (boxed)
N64 (boxed)

Saturn (loose)
Dreamcast (loose; demo kiosk version)

"fillips"
CD-i (handheld; boxed)

Sony
PlayStation (boxed)
MSX2 (scuffed to heck, but it takes cartridges)

12 types of console, one computer in my listing.

Can't say I'm suprised at the number of 15+ in this lot of people :)

1. Atari 2600
2. Atari 7800
3. Colecovision
4. Genesis (V1 & V2)
5. Intellivison
6. Jaguar
7. N64
8. NES
9. Odysey 2
10. Sega Master System
11. SNES
12. TG16
13. 3DO
14. Dreamcast
15. Playstation (PSX and PSone)
16. Saturn
17. Gamecube
18. PS2
19. Xbox

Plus of course I have the 32X and the SegaCD (which aren't consoles IMO). And of course doubles like 2 NESes (plus a toploader on the way :) ) and 2 SegaCDs

Even with all that I'd like a 5200 and CDi (the latter just to get the 3 Zelda games I've never played and beaten :) ).

Why not? It's a stand-alone programmable system that uses cartridges.
Just because all the games are crappy pre-school 'edutainment' doesn't stop ity being a console IMO.

I also agree tha the Pico counts. I just did screen shots for all the games I have for it and several of the carts have some standard video game fare as well as the educational stuff. for example Lion King Adventures at Pride Rock has a couple simple platform fly/run/jump levels and a variation of Kaboom. Muppets on the go has a simple Snow Board game and a variation on Frogger starring (obviosly) Kermit.

Damn, I didn't read the no handhelds rule before I voted! So the count's a little lower, unless you count my duplicates... which I won't.

Here's my list:
Atari VCS
Atari Jaguar
NES
SNES
N64
PS-X
Sega Genesis (1, 2 and 3)
Sega CD
Sega Saturn

That's 13, but including handhelds I've got 5 more. Counting all the dupes I've got, the grand total is something like 20 or so.

Before I go through the list, let me ask one question. What particular prejudice caused you to disregard handhelds and the Pico? If you were talking about dedicated handhelds like those from Tiger or Bandai, then I'd understand. But the Game Boys and Lynxes of the world are certainly just as viable as anything else in my mind.

However, it's your game, so I'll have to play by your rules. I don't have to like it, though. :o

In age order:

RCA Studio II
Nintendo Entertainment System (toaster)
Sega Master System (original)
Sega Genesis (original, with Power Base Converter)
Sega CD (original tray-loader)
Super Nintendo Entertainment System (original)
Sony PlayStation (original, with GameShark 2.4)
Nintendo 64 (jet)
Sega Dreamcast (white)
Sony PSone (with LCD screen)
Nintendo GameCube (indigo)

So that's 11.

If anyone's interested, I've also got the following "unmentionables":

Atari Lynx (later version)
Nintendo Game Boy Color (clear purple)
Nintendo Game Boy Advance (clear purple)
Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP (platinum)

Huh? What was that noise?

Excluding doubles and including handhelds (just because I can :P ), I'm in still in the 15+ bracket (16 to be exact). Including doubles it's 22.

(the number in brackets is the amount I have of this console)

Nintendo 64 (2)
Sega Dreamcast (2)
Super NES (2)
NES (2)
Atari 2600 Jr.
Game Boy Color
Sega Saturn (2)
Sega Mega Drive II (2)
Sega Master System II
Nintendo GameCube
Sony PlayStation 2
Microsoft Xbox
Atari Lynx
Sega Game Gear
Game Boy Advance
Sega Mega CD II

Me own:

CD-I
Virtual Boy
Odyssey 2
Aquarius
Pico

5 in total

LOL!! The Pico is definitely NOT a console!

Why not? It's a stand-alone programmable system that uses cartridges.
Just because all the games are crappy pre-school 'edutainment' doesn't stop ity being a console IMO.

Borrowing your image, Adrienne :)

No, it's NOT a console. And it's my poll, so I say it doesn't count.

Also have 2 of those atari controllers that you plug into the tv and play like 10 games. One is an activision one and one is an atari one which looks like a 2600 controller. So thats 16 systems without them counted and 18 systems with them counted.

I'm a certifiable latecomer. I just entered the world of console gaming earlier this year when I bought my PS2. Before, I had been a PC gamer. But my interest in PC games was drying up, so I moved on to something more enjoyable. Two months ago, I purchased my only other system, the beautiful Sega Dreamcast.

I only own 8 games for both consoles (not each, altogether), mostly because I've been spending my money on records most of the time.

EDIT: Whoops, I forgot to mention my Game Boy Pocket. It's hardly a console, IMO. I received it a while back (the year before Game Boy Color was introduced) for Xmas along with Donkey Kong Land (which I still haven't beaten, because of that annoying second cloud-ridin' level) and Donkey Kong Land 2.

EDIT: Second Whoops, Handhelds aren't included. Stupid me.

I own 22 "consoles" if you count PC and Android, 20 if you don't, and 13 if we require them to connect to a television. Not too shabby, but I should probably get some of the consoles I'm missing - and by missing, I mean I have games for them but not the consoles themselves. ;)

So I'm voting 15+ in the poll because I'm counting all of them - after all, I store them in a console, and all of these machines contain computer chips to control and power the games, and by matching both of those definitions of the word "console," I think handhelds count. Besides, aren't all modern handhelds more powerful than any traditional console system released before 2000? Actually thinking about it, PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS are more powerful than even the PS2, GameCube, XBOX, and Wii. Kid Icarus: Uprising convinced me that a 3DS is more powerful than a Wii - see for yourself.

As for my earlier statement though, who am I kidding: there are lots of consoles and other gaming machines I want to own that I don't have any games for yet! :-P At the very least, I want to own some pinball tables and arcade games like Sinistar. A complete U.S. SEGA console collection would be nice too. :D

Feel free to post & list them all if you'd like.

ps- Handhelds not included, just because I can.

Your poll choices are sorta useless for DP users. You may notice that a VERY large portion are gonna be 15+ ;)

Playstation

As of today I have... 13

NES
SNES
N64
Gamecube
Wii
Gameboy
DS
3DS
Playstation
Genesis
Sega CD
Saturn
Dreamcast

So I've nearly doubled in the space of about 6 months. And there are still more I want...

Master System (or a Power Base for my Genesis, I'd take either)
TurboGrafix 16
Gameboy Advance SP (really really hate playing Advance games on the DS for some reason. Something wonky about the button layout)

Sega Master System
DINA 2-in-1 (I'm including it because it not only plays Colecovision games but also Sega SG-1000 games which is a system I don't have yet)
Action Max
Viewmaster Interactivision
Sega Genesis/Sega CD/32X (I'm going to put them into a single category)

I'm probably missing one someplace, but so far it's a grand total of 33. And that's not even counting all the '70s dedicated machines like the Atari Video Music, loads of Pong clones, or the Atari Stunt Cycle and Video Pinball systems. If I included hardware variations (like so many people here tend to) this list would get painfully long.

Edit: Forgot about the Nintendo 64. Which, in my opinion, rightfully deserves to be forgotten. And that brings the list to 34.

Yet another edit: I forgot about my GameWave DVD system. That makes 35.

One last edit (hopefully): Forgot about the Virtual Boy. It's not anywhere close to being portable, so it counts. Now the list's at 36.

I put 15+ because I have about 20 versions of the 2600, 6 7800's, etc but if were just counting not dupes (Do retro computers even count?) :

APF TV Fun (Pong)
Atari 2600
Atari 7800
Atari XL
Atari XEGS
Colecovision
NES Toaster
NES Toploader
Snes
Snes 2
Turbografx-16
Master System
Genesis
Tandy Color Computer
Tandy Color Computer 2
Tandy Color Computer 3
ZX Spectrum
Gameboy Advance SP
Nintendo DSi XL
Wii

However even within this there are variations. For example would not a Coleco Gemini count as different than an Atari 2600?
As well, there are several variations within the Color Computer for example. I have 3 Tandy Coco 2's which are all different such as memory and keyboard type. Does the FC Twin count as a separate console from the NES/SNES? Too many variables as to what constitutes a wholly different system.

EDIT - turns out even without counting dupes I'm in the 15+ category anyway :)

Here's what I own:

- Dactar (Atari clone; I actually have two of them, but one isn't working and they're just about the same, save for some cosmetic differences)
- NES
- Genesis
- Mega Drive III (which is the brazilian Genesis 2)
- SNES
- PlayStation
- PSOne
- PlayStation 2
- Dreamcast (my new baby! :))

Dammit, I've just realized that I voted 7 or 8 on the poll because I forgot about my Mega Drive III...well, since it's missing the AC adapter and controllers, let's just assume it doesn't count. It's not complete.

When you add the different variants of systems that play the same games it can turn into a lot. Of Atari 2600s I have 8, (heavy 6, heavy 6 tele, 6 sw, 6 sw tele, 4 sw, vadar, Jr, and sears arcade II.)

Otherwise I have 25. With variants probably around 60?

I'm going to attempt this just to actually visualize the result. (My systems mostly remain boxed in the basement for lack of a true game room). I get to 29 the way I have it split up, not as many as I thought, to be honest. I have a feeling I missed something, though, and have left out a few Pong clones.

For such an old thread I’m surprised that there aren’t more votes.

2600 (heavy sixer, Sears 6 sw, woody 4 sw, Vader & JR)
5200 (two port I think?)
7800
Colecovision
Intellivision (sears Super Video Arcade)
