the most I ever spent was about $95 on Fina Fantasy VII. I wish I had snagged that back in the 90s.

Excluding brand new systems and games. This is only regarding stuff that you had to hunt for, either online or in the wild.

For me, it was just my Sega Saturn, which I paid $39.99 for. I don't think I've ever paid more than that for a classic item. All of my especially valuable stuff, I got bargains on.

I've never paid big money for a game up front, but I've dropped hundreds on a few lots to get rare games like Panzer Dragoon Saga, James Buster Douglas Knockout Boxing, Dragon Force, Shining Force III, etc. The biggest was the Buster lot - it came with 70 games, 2 boxed 3D glasses, boxed phasers, etc. and I think I paid about $500 with shipping. I ended up selling the rest of the stuff minus Buster and actually making a profit on it, but still, at the time it was a big plunge.

Good question. I'm usually reserved and frugal when it comes to adding to the game collection and more often than not I talk myself out of buying something. However when it comes to my gaming magazine collection, I tend open up the purse strings a bit as these days I'm tending to value the documentation of the history more than the games themselves.

I think I've spent maybe $20 for the first issue of Nintendo Power as it was in fantastic condition to replace the ratty copy I got in a lot purchase. Though now that I think of it, I think I spent slightly more on either the second or third issue of Video Games and Computer Entertainment magazine. Reason why that stands out is I was surprised I got an very good copy of the first issue for a measly $10 (as it went for much higher earlier). I'd have to go home and check my old emails to be certain.

$449.99 for a 60GB PS3 with BC, new.

Actually, I paid about $800 (half was shipping) for a Neo Candy 29 w/6 slot board in 2002. That's probably the tops.

Excluding brand new stuff like PS3, I paid $599 for a Boxed Neo Geo AES (forget if it has the system manual or not) with 3 CIB games in excellent condition along with a 2nd Neo Geo joystick.

The only buy it now I could find was on Amazon.com and this was one of the last systems I needed before I had all the most major platforms. I think I actually bought it before the Neo Geo CD and I thought it was awesome and worth the money I paid.

most I've paid for anything game wise has been... I believe it was either Matrimelee for Neo Geo AES (~$140 or so?) or SNK v. Capcom CardFighters Clash 2: Expand Edition for NGPC which was around $140 as well with shipping.

I own neither of those anymore... but really only miss CFC2

I paid $200 for Recca for Famicom. Had the box and a card, but no instruction manual. It is ok because it is one of my absolute favorite games. Now I need to work on getting Pink Sweets, which will likely cost me $600+

Probably $70 for disc only Snatcher. I tend to spend money on systems but not on games (and even then, I have never paid more than $200 for a system and that was actually technically two systems - AV Fami & Disc System).

In recent memory, the special editions of metal gear solid 4 and street fighter 4 for ps3 cost me around $80.00.

I just shelled out $800 for a factory sealed Daytona Netlink. That's by far the most I have ever spent on a single game and it's highly unlikely I will pay that much for a game ever again. It was worth it though, it completed my U.S. Saturn collection and having it factory sealed is pretty insane.

$70 for Street Fighter II for SNES when it was released.
$65 for a copy of Super 3D Noah's Ark directly from Wisdom Tree.

$65 USD for Odball for the Magnavox Odyssey.
~$60 CAD for Baseball for the XaviXPORT

$352 for James 'Buster' Douglas CIB for the Sega Master System.
I sold my entire CIB SMS set for $700 shipped... Doh!

As for most on one game, I think it was $3,800 or so. Another sound investment as the game itself would likely sell for under $500 at open auction now.

I spent $1,450/$1,350/$1,250 on T-Mek, DarXide and Primal Rage respectively for the PAL 32X. The Mega Derp Trio!

And the ever snazzy $1,111.11 for a factory sealed Daytona USA CCE Netlink Edition. Nothing stops your heart faster than seeing an auction jump right to your ludicrous "no one will ever bid this much" maximum bid moments before ending.

Well, that's too bad it's not worth as much as you paid (or more) but not having any regrets about it is probably the most important part about buying big dollar items.

Never paid more for a used game than when it was new. Think the highest I ever went was £30 for Mario RPG and roughly the same each for Shining Force 3 scenarios 2 & 3- but they were both as new.

Trying now to think of the most I've ever paid for a special edition of a game. Forza 4 set me back £60 and Fallout New Vegas probably the same.

1. 55 for a complete repro of Time Diver Eon Man for the Nes from NesDump. Very professionally done and played through it many times.

2. 50 Soul Caliber 2 for the Gamecube the week it came out.

3. 39.90 for a loose copy of Aero Fighters for the Snes off ebay in 2005. Talk about a great investment. I just started spring break when it came in the mail and I felt like I had an arcade right in my basement. Easily one of my favorite games of all time.

4. 35 for a complete Sin and Punishment for the N64. No regrets there.

5. 25 for a complete copy of Stunt Racer 64. Now I'm seeing copies sell for over 100. Boo-ya!

I have the worst purchase all-time:
Aidyn Chronicles for N64 along with the 4 MB drive needed to handle the game's "amazing" graphic capacity.
Game was like $60-$70 and add-on for N64 was $30 to $40, I think. It was only a few weeks old when I bought it. What a waste.

If I don't count my arcade cabinet (Guerrilla War, purchased at an auction for 220 bucks), then the Kingdoms of Amalur Collector's Edition (200). I would have gotten the Signature edition, but they were sold out by the time I had the cash.

Other than those, my wife bought me Panzer Dragoon Saga and merely said "I paid less than 200 for it" so I assume it was close to that number.

Then there was Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition ($150), The Witcher 2 CE ($130), and Fallout 3: Survival Edition (Amazon exclusive, $130).

My highest-paid retro game was for Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, back in 1996. It was almost impossible to find, and Funcoland had it new... for $100. I was a huge Star Wars fan and needed more to play on my new N64, so they got their cash... and honestly, for the time it was worth it.

This thread makes me realize I haven't really spent all that much on a single game before.

I got Popful Mail for Sega CD a month or two ago for $75. . . Total impulse buy.

I guess I keep most of my purchases below the $50 range.

$325ish for a CIB (all inserts) copy of Final Fantasy III on the SNES. Way overpriced, not *too* minty, but I wanted it really badly and had money to burn at the time, so I got into an eBay bidding war.

It is still the centerpiece of my gaming collection though.

Suikoman444

I guess technically the Kingdoms of Amalur Signature Edition, that was $275. After that it was Panzer Dragoon Saga at $180.

If arcades count, I gave 1400 for 4 games (galaga, time crisis crisis zone, P's attack, and Crazy Taxi)

If not, it would be Steel Battalion. I gave $80 bucks for it. They wanted $100 for it, but I talked them down.

$800 shipped for a Candy cab, 6 slot board and a dozen games - all money spent really on a copy of KoF 99 for it as one of the included titles. Probably closer to a thousand bucks if you factor in the truck and ferry ride to Vancouver to pick it up, but I caught a break in that I helped a friend move and he covered half the truck.

I think we spent about $300 for KoF 2003 in 2003... But that might have been my share of it... Split costs with a friend. All I remember was we went back to 99 :P

For console, I paid $400 for my limited edition Mother 3 box with the GB Micro and Franklin Badge, and $165 for Top Hunter on AES. A couple of other AES games hit a little over $100... Sengoku 2 & 3 both did, and I feel I overpaid for Radiant Silvergun at $150 on Saturn.
