Whether it was something very new and trendy and expensive or something very vintage... what was the most money you've ever shelled out for one game?
I'll share my answer later. For now, it's up to you!

I paid $70 for Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time the day it came out. As far as older (than 1990) games go, I paid $15 for Super Dodge Ball for NES.
~$160 for Alien Soldier, JPN Mega Drive. Before that, I think it was around $100 for US Panzer Dragoon Saga (SAT).
Was Alien Soldier worth that much for gameplay? Hell no. Just to own? Yeah.

I am not sure how much I have spent on newer games. I don't buy new too often any more, but I used to. As far as used, I spent $34 for Final Fantasy III for Snes. I know it wasn't the best price, but it was for a friend who really wanted it.

I paid something like £70 ($110) for Panzer Dragoon Saga (PAL). Worth it? Absolutely, I loved it and lost months playing it! Sadly, I then had to sell it because I was skint and I only bought it on the basis that I could sell it again afterwards. I got £90 for it, but I am still sad that I let it go. First of all, because it was such a great game - and second of all, because it now regualrly fetches £100, and my copy was in almost perfect condition - which is hard to find on the PAL version because the cardboard outer is easily damaged. Foolish really, because I probably wouldn't have played it again, since I coimpleted it, but I can't help feeling the occasional pang of regret that it is gone :-(
I paid £30 ($50) for Snatcher on the Mega CD (PAL) - which was 100% worth it, one of my all time favourite games! I loved the mix of RPG style adventure and frantic lightgun action! The story was outstanding and the anime was great.
I bid more than that for Panorama Cotton for the Megadrive, but lost the auction. On the other hand, I just won Mega Man - Wily Wars (PAL Megadrive) for £15, so that makes up for it!

$250 for 7800 monitor cart with big ass book, plus some extra sheets that were added to the book handwritten by the author.
$209 for Boxed Chase the Chuck Wagon with instructions and original coupon you had to send in to get the game.
$80 for VCS Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Few others...can't think right now.

$0.25 (yes, 25 cents) for Swordquest Waterworld--actually got it free afterward because I fixed his VCS. Gave me back quarter.

$99.99 all day long... for the N64 version of Cruisin' USA when it first came out.
On a side note, how come Nintendo games were always more? Anybody ever notice how SNES games were always $10 to $20 more than Genesis titles? Same with N64 stuff. $99.99? In hindsight, THAT'S A RIP!

You guys are nuts! I've shelled out $40.00 each for several 2600 CGE releases, but the most I've paid for a single game was $42.00 for a DC European Shenmue II I spotted in mint condition at a local used game store. It even came with a boot disc but I still felt like I was spending too much.
Got my Panzer Saga for $20 at TRU, got my Tooth Protectors for .79 at a thrift and got my PS2 GTA III for $9.99 at Goodwill. Getting 'em cheap is half the fun for me. And waiting for new releases to show up used at 1/4 the price isn't a problem as I have a beefy backlog of games to go through. Although I must admit I once dropped a total of $280 in one day at 5 different Best Buys when they knocked all of their Saturn games down to $10.00....timing is everything
A cheap bastard and proud of it!

3 and 3/10ths of a cent !!
Man you guys ARE cheap. Just give the guy his 4 cents and call it a day. I am still trying to figure out how you mananged to pull this one off.
<looks into DPs magic 8-ball deeply>
"OK I'm giving you a full 4 cents today for this NES proto but you still owe me buddy !! " as you wave a pointed finger in the strangers face.
The stranger doesn't say a word and you turn to leave
But just as you are about to walk away a thought clouds your mind. What if this stranger never returns the 7/10ths of a cent.
"Do you have anything cheap like a copy of Final Fantasy or an Atari 2600 proto for the remaining 7/10ths of a cent? I just hate when people owe me money. I never know when I can expect it back."
"I don't have anything like that but I'll make sure to do you right by next Monday, good sir" the stranger says as he shakes from head to toe.
Yet thats was the last you ever saw of the stranger and the 7/10th of a cent were lost forever.
I guess you were right all along. You just can't trust anyone these days.
<pulls away from DPs magic 8-ball>

65 bucks for harvest moon 64. I felt i payd too much until i played the game.
When I bought my GBA I needed a game for it so I bought Castlevania: CotM at list price ($40)
Never again! It's a good game, but I'd rather spend $40 on 40 crap games at $1 a piece. (Besides, what are the chances that you'll buy 40 games and not find one good game in the buch?)
Actually, I just ordered "Napple Tale" for the DC, but it's a present for my brother so it shouldn't count. That was $55.

I paid $200 + shipping for Castlevania X: Rondo of the Blood for PCE about a year an a half ago when you couldn't find it for less..now its sells for $60..go figure :(
The next highest would probably be Alien Soldier PAL for $106 + shipping from Britain, and Panzer Dragoon Saga, which I bought brand spanking new when it came out for $75!
And I'll add the most expensive game I've ever sold was more than the most expensive game I bought. I sold a factory sealed Steam Hearts for PCE for $300 a few months ago :) I also sold my entire arcade for $10,000 (60 arcade games) but I doubt that arcade games count, or the most expensive game I'd have bought would be a Spy Hunter pinball for $500.

I try to set my limit at $100. Which means or more than likely, I'll never get to play Radiant Silvergun at all for the Saturn. The most i paid so far was $100 for Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn). Next would be $80 for Lucienne's Quest (3DO) and $80 for Spiderman: Web of Fire (32X)
I'll have to agree with one of the previous posts that Steel Battalion will break my previous limit.

$79.99 plus tax for Chrono Trigger at TRU. I lived in a rural part of NC at the time with very few game shops around, and couldn't resist the game any longer. How I long for the days when my only bill was a $92 a month car payment, even if I was barely making over minimum wage after school.
Interestingly enough (to me anyway), I didn't really know what I was getting. It was my first RPG, but I was convinced to buy it by Flea Market Guy (who gave me a little info about RPGs when I asked why some of his SNES games were so much more expensive) and the awesome CT ads. When I first started playing, I sat there a minute before realizing that *I* had to advance the dialogue further.
It made me 30 some cents short when I bought gas on the way home that fateful night, but luckily the guy was kind enough to let me come back and pay it the next day (which I'm proud to say I did). It also kicked off a craving for good RPGs that will probably never be quenched.
I'll share my answer later. For now, it's up to you!

67 posts later and I finally get around to answering.
I asked this question because I had just paid $250 for a boxed Atari 2600 "Lochjaw". You may have expected that I've paid much more for some of the other things in my collection, like the boxed "Malagai", boxed "Video Life" - both of which would go for well over a grand if I were to sell - or the piles of prototypes I've amassed over the years, but you'd be wrong. Fortunately I've stumbled into lots of great stuff mainly from just being in the right place before everyone else or being terribly persistent with owners (you know who you are).
So that's it for me, $250 for a boxed Atari 2600 "Lochjaw". Closest to that would be $200 for a boxed Intellivision Congo Bongo.
