Went to go visit a friend of mine yesterday down in Dallas (Irving, actually). We ended up heading down to the Grapevine Mills mall to kill the afternoon.

If you're a gamer or just a kid at heart, this is a pretty cool place to drop by if you're ever in the area. We went in the ESPN X-Games Skatepark entrance and watched the kids skate for a few minutes. Right past there was an EB, which we went in and browsed (almost bought Pigs in Space playset but ended up passing).

From there we went to Robotica (sp?) where I ended up buying one of those Super Joy III 76000-in-1 units for $29.99. They had choice of black, red, blue, or gray (picked gray). They had lots of cool toys there, I ended up picking up some Big Trouble in Little China action figures as well.

We also spent a few minutes in Gameworks. Wow, it's not like any of the arcades are here, I can tell you that! The ground floor was mostly shooting and racing games (I have never seen so many gun games in one place before in my life!) but at least they had some vintage games upstairs.

Had a great time. If you're ever in the area and have some credit left on your credit card, drop by!

The same company that owns that mall just opened up a new mall near me (St. Louis Mills)

We've got the ESPN X-Games skatepark as well, with an EB not too far from it. :) I went there a couple days ago to pick up some E-Reader cards.

We don't have an arcade yet though (still being built). I'm patiently waiting!

Dallas is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. I lived there for a year and a half. The grapevine mall is cool to people who live near haystacks. But for city folk, it's nothing special.

But--the food is good (just not at the mall). So there is something to like about Dallas.

Gameworks sucks--it's a bunch of old mediocre games waiting to die. At least the Dallas one is somewhat better than the Gameworks in Vegas. And hey, they even had the little-seen Sonic arcade fighting game. But, Sega in their infinite wisdom decided to set up a chain of mega arcades just as the entire industry was collapsing. As a result, there's nothing to put in them. So it's not all their fault.

Oh yeah Dallas also has a few Waffle Houses--so it wasn't all bad.

I'm from Dallas. It pales in comparison in all categories (excpet crime and shitiness) when compared to Austin. Austin had two arcades on the drag, across from school. Great place to take study breaks, or study during game breaks.

Yeah Austin is great. There are two good arcades across the street from the university--Einstein's and I forget what the other one was. I dug that place. One of Texas' higlights.
