has anyone hooked up a 32x to a model 3? obviously the model three isn't listed in the instructions for the 32x, as it wasn't in production when the 32x was first being made...

just wondering if anyone had any experience with this and anything i should look out for.

The Genesis 3 will not work with a 32X. Neither will the Sega CD, Power Base Converter, Game Genie, or any 'special' cartridge such as Virtua Racing, etc.

There is another adapter that came with the 32x that hooks up to the other adapter so that you can use it on a model 1.
Was that confusing ? @_@

just a little, so you are saying i need another little adapter for the adapter for it to work on the first model. will it play regular games thru it without the piece?

This might not seem helpful, but may I suggest putting that Genesis 3 away and never touching it again? Mono sound and really bad video on that unit don't make it a serious player's unit of choice. The Nomad is a superior console in every way (except for possibly losing contact with carts and the weight of the unit), even if you're using it as a regular console to hook up to your TV, as I do. Majesco Sales put a blot on Sega's usually awesome hardware lineup with that system, I tell you.

Ok I just looked and it's just a different adapter. The 32x came with 2 . One with a big din end for the moldel 1 , and an adapter with the smaller din end for the model 2 .
I have a model 1 adapter laying around , i think , if you need one.

The Genesis and it's hookups was NOT designed to be consumer friendly. I had a real mess last year when I got my system trying to figure out the adpaters needed for each one and where to find them at, and then testing several cause some of them were broken.

Basicaly, the Genesis, the Sega CD, and the 32X EACH need their own power supply, you need different types for each one, and the power supply that works for a Gen 1 won't work with a 2. It's a crazy setup. @_@

yeah, i've noticed that.... the 32x i just got is complete in box, with grounders and everything, so i'm set on that, and the sega cd that's on the way has everything it needs as well. i am however going to have to buy another power strip... damn fire hazard my basement is. 3 goddamn AC's for (more or less) one system! they weren't thinking too well on that one....

I personally think the Genesis 3 has better VIDEO than the Genesis 2.

The Genesis 1 might have the best video, but it is less sharp and that might be why.

That is a very nice page.

BTW Manimal: I will eventually get ahold of a Genesis 1 and Genesis 2...I must discover how this all works out. Of the Genesis consoles I own, though, the Nomad is by far the superior system.

I love my Nomad. I just with I could play my CD and 32X games on it. *sigh*

We can't have everything, can we?

The Genesis 3 is one I don't have yet. I will get it soon because I already have all the others. Well, except the CDX and X'eye. Which are also on my list.

Geeze.. too many Genesisesess's... Also, I have to get myself a CD for my Genesis 1. Just because I like the tray and the weird look.

I've seen all sorts of wierd things happen with 32x's. Here's a few suggestions:

- Make sure both power supplies are working. If it powers up, this shouldn't be a problem.

- Clean all contacts.

- If you're using the Genny 2, make sure the 32x is stable in the cartridge slot, using the plastic spacer if its available.

- Try a non-32x Genesis cart through the 32x and see if that works. If it does, you may have a bad 32x cart.

Lemmie know, I can help ya fiddle if you need.

Actually, I have a Monstrosity too. I really have to redo my entire power setup. It's a mess! I need to make labels and such so I know what ones I'm unplugging.

Peeve time. I absolutely DESPISE power bricks. Who's the dumbass that came up with the idea to hang the huge brick off the wall? It's fine for one system. But with the Genesis/CD/32X combo (If you have a new in box 32X, you'll find an advertisement for a Sega branded power strip to accomodate the entire system.) you have three! You need to plug them all in. And seeing as most of the time, the plugs plug in only one way, you need THREE POWER OUTLETS or an Extension cord!

I have about 7 or 8 bricks that I need to plug in.

Nintendo had the right idea when they made the N64 and Cube's power supplies. And the PSX, DC, Saturn, Xbox, etc are good too with their built-in supplies, but the earlier systems, man.. they really make a mess.

The real problem is all the excess wire. I gotta really sort this whole thing out.

NEC had the right idea back in 88 or 89 with the TG16 power supply. I always wondered why Sega and Nintendo HAD to go with those big ass bricks for power supplies. I guess bigger was better or something.

Hah, I hate the 'wall wart' plugs. I agree, the TG-16 'line lump' was a much better idea.

Or, you can hunt down the special power bar Sega made that had more spaced out plugs. Looks cool too LOL

I hell wouldn't mind having about two of those for my older (Pre Smartness) era consoles.

Ah. Same as the Cube.

Too bad companies didn't do that earlier.
