Okay, folks, I'm a beer or two in and I'm about to try DDR for the first time. If you don't hear from me, I've spontaneously combusted.

I'm still here... I'm better at this than I thought! I'm about halfway through the lessons with my wife. It's getting a tad competitive... her with her formal dance training, and me with my whiteboy nkotb 5 beers in moves. It's a damn good time.

Someday... I shall take on Keir... Keir, I shall come. Someday.

Beer's helping you DDR? I should try that!

This is such a coincidence! I tried DDR for the first time myself! A DDR machine resides in the lobby of the movie theater I went to for Return of the King. It's pretty darn cool, and I hope to play it as much as I can in order to lose a bit of weight! I was doing real good too. Then I moved to "Standard" difficulty. I need more practice... ah, well. :)

No, wait, this isn't the first time I've ever tried DDR... it's the first time in a while. The actual first time I tried it, I sucked mightily. :embarrassed:

My wife had some real pain from her old injuries trying to play this on a cement floor with no shoes. Can you use shoes on the DDR mat?

Try the standard modification, then you can use shoes.

Get a 3 ft. square piece of wood. Place the mat on the wood. Take some clear plastic hard wood floor covering and use a few strips to cover the mat. Nail/tack/staple it to the wood at the edges. That usually works wonders, so I'm told.

That's a good idea... would make the mats harder to store, though. I'll consider that one.

Yeah, as long as you've got small area to slide them upright, it works okay. But unless you want to build an elaborate hinge mechanism, folding is out of the question.

The wooden DDR mat is excellent. Just get some duct tape and tape it along the edges, making sure there is no tape on the arrows or cord. Then just slide it under a bed. It works perfectly.
And, even though i am ashamed, im pretty good at DDR. I used to be able to do paranoia on expert. :embarrassed:

I may suggest, and it all depends on how serious you are gonna get into it. I am in the process of getting all the ddr games, and am investing in the metal pad, its worth it in the long run, but look at redoctane.com they are the man when it comes to pads. Jus tdon't buy the cheaper stuff from ebay, and if you live upstairs be mindful of the neighbors:)

LOL You're going down!

Actually I'm not very good. What's your best song (or highest number of feet) so far?

I'm still working through the lessons. I haven't had the chance to play again since that night... so I don't actually have any scores yet.

Oops. I should have read your posts more closely and I would have known that. Going through the lessons is definitely the way to go. I couldn't even clear the easiest song until I finished every lesson.

Yeah, I'm at the last section of lesson 2. I had to put the pad away for now, though, because the space conflicts with my deadlift training spot. So the training takes priority when necessary...
