What is everybody's favorite NINTENDO system or handheld?
(NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Virtual Boy, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Advance or SP)
I would definatley have to say I have the most memories on the good ole' 8-Bit Nes and that is the system I just had the most fun on! I love my Gamecube that I own now, and definaltey play it more nowadays than any other system I own, But I do love my NES better and played it more than anything back in the day. (I still play my nes weekly though)
LONG LIVE NINTENDO!!!

Yep definitely agree on the original nintendo, and the first gameboy ...hmm when so young it seemed like 60lbs of goodness :D

NES.....Wholesome toaster box greatness.
SNES was good as well. Lots of great rpg games and 2D fighters :D
But the answer is the NES for sure ;)

NES...gotta love the classic.
Red Warrior
01-21-2004, 05:02 PM
The SNES had more classics than any console to date... not to mention the best controllers ever made. Consider games like Super Metroid, FFIV, FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Zelda III, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, DKC, SimCity, Ken Griffey Baseball, MKII, Killer Instinct, Mario RPG, Star Fox, Street Fighter II, Contra III.... etc, etc, etc...
You get the idea. :)
The only console that truly deserves to have the word "Super" in its name.

The SNES, best console ever imho. Great line up, games had good graphics and sound, good controller and last but not least, got this one as a kid and i played it the most off all the consoles i have/had. So many good memories on this one.

I actually kinda like the N64, but I still don't understand why a cartridge based system has memory cards... that just seems like bad design to me.
I gotta go with the Gamecube on this one... The only system to impress me more than the Gamecube has was the Dreamcast.

I find it amusing that there are *zero* votes for the SNES (at the time of this posting) despite the multiple odes to its supposed undeniable greatness. Was the poll added after the fact or are some people unfamiliar with the concept of a poll?

To reply to Dr. Morbis's comment about why there aren't any more checks for the SNES? I agree and don't know why, it was and still IS one of the best systems.
Also, for Nintendo 64 to have memory cards when it is cartridge bases is true, does seem kind of designed wierd. I am not knocking the n64 or anything though, I do play mine about every other day still. Maybe there wasn't enough space on the cartridge for the memory spot, or something?? Who knows

I picked N64! I mean, NES is great and all, but my Mom wouldn't let me get an Atari when I was like 6 because this "Nintendo" was coming out soon and it was going to be better. So fuck that thing. LOL
Anway, I chose the 64 because me and my friends used to play WCW vs. nWo: World Tour for hours on end. We even used to put it on computer only mode and gamble on which wrestler would win the match. Can't really beat that fun factor.

I think I picked the NES (I've been a little preoccupied lately...) so it was either that or the Virtual Boy.

GCN for me. The NES was good, and had good games at the time, and the SNES had *some* really good games, but I'm going with the GCN because it's the most fun a jaded gamer like myself has had in a long time. It was probably a lot easier to impress a 10-year-old me; the GCN takes the cake because it impresses a 25-year-old me who now feels like he did when he was 10 and playing those "great" games.

Nintendo's intended purpose for the Controller Pak's were to allow the transfer of data from your console to another console (e.g. take your game files to a friend's house), a similar design to the Xbox and it's memory units.
This idea didn't really proliferate in the way Nintendo meant it to, and eventually the controller pak was resigned to storing amounts of data too large to be saved to the Game Pak (e.g Top Gear Rally's paintjob's, Re-Volt's user created tracks).
However, many third party companies decided that to cut costs on the 'expensive' cartridge units, their cartridges didn't feature any battery backup - hence the use of the Controller Pak.
Anyway - back to the poll.
I vote for the SNES. Nintendo just did so many things right with this machine. Excellent in-house titles (Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid), *arguably* Rare's best games (DKC series, Killer Instinct) and a huge supply of third party games from the likes of Squaresoft and Konami.
Add to that hardware that had the edge on the Mega Drive/Genesis, a perfect controller and an level accessibility that only the PlayStation seems to have been able to reproduce.
Maybe Nintendo should look back at the SNES to help them see that they once knew how to make great hardware/software.
Second behind SNES I would put the great Nintendo 64. Whilst not able to reach the heights of the SNES's greatness, an excellent piece of technology nonetheless.

The SNES/SFC and GBA:SP are neck and neck for me.
That being said, has anybody here ever seen the Gameboy Lite? Its a Gameboy Pocket, but with an indiglo screen. I know it was a Japan only release, but I've only seen ads for them myself maybe twice.
The SNES is my favorite. But only by a hair, over the great NES.

Though I loved my NES and SNES to death (a few times, really) I chose the GBC. When I got that coupled with Link's Awakening DX, and all of my older, favorite GB games there's just no other choice.
What about Game & Watch they are the best!!!
My fave Nintendo system is:
Pokemon Mini including six cartridges (Party, Puzzle Collection, Zany Cards, Pinball, Tetris, Puzzle Collection 2)

I am kind of suprised that the Super Nintendo is winning. I mean I absolutley love the system, but I voted for the game library with the best overall games, thats why I picked NES (In my opinion).
I do play my snes daily and the most next to gamecube out of all my systems.

The NES, easily. Not only does this system have a gigantic number of great games, most of it's cartridges can be bought for only a few dollars.
Well I've only owned a GBC, GBA SP and N64. So I choose GBA SP. :) I hoping to get a NES or SNES soon though so that might change.

Gameboy Advance/ SP
For old school gamers in the current market it's the only choice. I don't care that most of the games have already been released... in fact that's one of the reasons I like it.

Yes, I have seen the gameboy lite. It looks awesome and have thought about buying one before, even though they are japanese only releases.
I loved the GB Pocket, while only be an updated version of the Original GB, and have bought a couple of colors over the years.

NES for all the fun times I had after I got rid of two toasters and got a top loader.
Same here. I would say the nes also but the snes/sfc is my fav system of all time. So many classic platform and rpg's came out for that system. If i would have to choose a handheld i would go with the GBA sp just because i can play the whole gameboy catalog on a backlit screne. I also rather injoy the virtual boy and i think that the gamecube is highly underlooked by the majority of the gaming market.
I voted gamecube but SNES tied in my book

I voted GBA/SP
First of all its backwards compatible with all other Game Boy games. SO COOL!
Secondly, if you have a Game Cube you can play all those great games with a Game Boy Player on your TV.
Third, There are a few (not enough IMO) SNES ports and the recently retro NES collection.
Fourth, It's completely import friendly! WOOHOO!
So there you have it. :D
My 2nd place would go to the SNES/SFC for it's massive library of good games both import and domestic. Plus I love the SFC controller!

NES. One of the first systems I owned as a kid and I never had a super nintendo even though I've played many games on it over time I still have more fond memories of the NES because of actually owning it.
SNES. I grew up playing this console, and its still my favorite today! :D
The good 'ol SNES. It has the best library of games, IMO.

I go for the SP - it's almost the perfect system (if only it had another 2 buttons and headphone socket!) You can play it through your 'Cube on the telly or take it on holiday with you. And has a library of games like no other spanning a massive chunk of gaming history. And, oh yeah, you can hook it up to your 'Cube for extra connectivity...

I can't decide. I love the NES and original GB, but the SNES was great too, and I love the GBA, especially the SP. The GBC was nice too, like new life for the NES--new 8-bit colour games!
For homebrew development though, nothing beats the NES, it's just too awesome!
SNES for me with GBA close behind.

I can't believe it, but I just voted for the N64. Just recently I've literally fell in love with the old 64.
The only reason I chose that over the NES is because I can play my N64 games for a month and maybe be able to beat them. But for the NES, I play them for a day (for the most part) and they are beaten. I really like to settle into my games.

After awhile of deciding whether it's the nes or super nes I have have chosen the super nes. It seems like it's the most well rounded system to me. It's not too old school but it's not too modern. It has excellent graphics and yet they are still 2d which I prefer. And it has excellent music while still being a cartridge based system. It has a lot of the best titles in a series in my opinion. These include super mario world, zelda 3,contra 3,final fantasy 3 and mega man x. And the combination of nintendo, konami, capcom, squaresoft and enix games on one system is a great one.

I voted for SNES. Even though I collect only for the NES, the SNES holds my best memories...thanks to all of the awesome RPG's (Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire I & II, Secret of Mana, RoboTek, etc, etc) and other classic two-player games. The N64 had its share of goodness, but was more of a kid's system in comparison to the PSX at the time...and the Game Cube...well, I don't have much good to say about that except for a few cool games ;)

In terms of build quality, it's got to be their first forray into the Cd world - The GameCube.
Despite it's child-like looks, and hard design, it is actually very well built - And can out last the Xbox and PS2 if dropped / Bashed / Twatted very hard (As has been demonstrated online)
The games are actually also diverse as well. And nice updates of classic games, and a few classics itself!
Shame about the controller design, but I suppose you can't have everything.
As for hendheld - I am pretty fond of the ol' GameBoy Pocket. If they had used this as a basis for the GBC, then perhaps the GBC would have been that little bit better - But I feel they went backwards when they designed the GBC
The GBC had small screen, and took chunkier batteries than the GBP.
The GBA was OK, but could've benefitted from having the light from the offset. But i'm satisfied with the SP now.

The Super Nintendo for me. Not only is it the system that go me back into gaming but it just has a ton of games I never get tired of playing...Super Punch-Out, Mario this and that, Super Metroid, Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball (the first) and too many others to mention. I missed the entire NES era and I do enjoy my GameCube but the SNES is my favorite by far.

Nintendo 64
I'm sure we mostly made our choices based on memories and my choice is the same way.
The N64 was the first system I got that was really mine and my first taste of the "next gen" in the Summer of 1997.
Lets just say I had a blast!!!
-More memories then I could ever list
-Tons of great games
-Sweet 3D graphics(for the time)
-4 player gaming madness
-Goldeneye(need I say more???)
Anyway the N64 gets my vote, I like all the Nintendo systems and have high respect for them. But the N64 gets the number 1 spot for me.
As for handhelds I'd have to go with the original GameBoy(still the best handheld ever). IMO
