View Full Version : "To Be Complete" lists for all system libraries

In another post of mine concerning what makes TurboGrafx games complete, another poster brought up an interesting point.

In asking what came with the TG-16 games (cardboard sleeve, jewel case, etc.), I never even thought about any ancillary pack-ins that would make the title complete.

For the NES, that kind of stuff is always forefront on my mind, but never even gave it a thought for the other systems.

So, I think that this would be extremely important to completists - what exactly is needed to make a title complete, for any system?

For example, NES Trolls on Treasure Island came with the Box & styrofoam, an AVE cardboard sleeve, an instruction manual, the cartridge, AND, a little plastic troll.

For Genesis, Operation Europe comes with the hard case, game, manual AND map/poster.

This is what I'm talking about - not the stupid registration cards or Nintendo Power inserts or whatever.

Posters, maps, toys, 3D glasses, ANYTHING else that you would get if you opened the game new.

I also think that this information would be great to add to the DP database and rarity lists/DP guides. That way, you can see what you need, if you care about the completeness of a title.

I have such a list for the NES, but not for any other system.

So, my questions are these:

Are there any lists like this for the other systems?

Does anyone have such a list, or working on a list like this?

Does anyone else care? (Rhetorical question, as I know there are other obsessive compulsives out here.)

I would love any input on this, that I can get.

Thanks,
Steve

I'm sure people care. :) For newer collected systems, like SNES and Genesis, it may be too early to have a list compiled for info like that. For SNES, I hope to add in as much to be complete info as I can before the deadlines approach.

Personally, I don't know of any lists besides NES. JeffD (the NES JeffD ;)) has a good one on his site: http://nestral.topcities.com

Thanks Dave,

I already knew about the NES one, for sure.

I definitely need to see about the other systems.

Did anything ever come of this suggestion?

I would love to see something like this. Maybe we should start a new thread for each system where people can contribute what they know.

and do you have to have official cleaning kits, or all available cleaning kits, to have a complete collection?

What about like Advertisements / Precautions / registration cards / magazine Subscription cards / catalog posters...

Nintendo Games don't feel Complete without the Precautions manual. I always remember that Star Fox Poster / SNES upcoming Games sheet in SNES games. And a lot games come with registration cards.

Is Secret of Mana without the Final Fantasy Legend III card complete?

I know I have a map for my (complete?) Ys Book 1 & 2 but no cards or anything of that matter.

I have two "complete" levels for my N64 collection.

Normal completes have box cart and book. The kind of completes that I WANT are box, book, cart, Nintendo Power advertisement sheet and white warning sheet. THAT, to me, is a complete complete.

Don't count a system UNLESS it has box, insert, and manuals. It's hard to count the twist ties and plastic baggies since they always got chucked away....although I don't know why. THAT'S a complete system.

The thing that pisses me off is that as of late, stores are throwing away the boxes to the systems that people trade in. Someone trades in a smoke N64 and the idiots will actually throw away the box to it...which is just as valuable. I'd still freak over finding a smoke N64 in the wild....but to know that it had the box as well......

I actually rescued the box for an N64 Star Wars Episode One Racer system...before it got torn up and dumpstered.
