How many types of Dreamcast Gamesharks are there and which one of them is the best one?

Well, I'm by no means an expert on this, but as far as I know there was only one "type" (compare to the 2 types for PSX), and it was a CDX.
I looked at mine and there was no version number on it.
I don't use it for cheating, but it works great for playing imports :)

I remember seeing the regular Game Shark, and something called a Game Shark Lite. I don't know what the differences are between them. Does anyone here know?

"Lite" is a newer version I believe and does not have the memory card. It comes in a clear plastic DVD case whereas the "normal" one came in a shiny box with the memory card.

Dangerboy (yes, *that* Dangerboy of GS.com days...) to the rescue!
There were technically 3 different GSs for the Dreamcast:
1. The GameShark CDX: Original Release
The basic GameShark with Dongle set-up. You slap in the CD and mem card, choose the cheats, and go.
2. The GameShark 'Lite'
A self booting, CD only release that had a smaller sampling of available codes. The buyer could use his own DC Memory Card as the Dongle were to to wish more codes saved to his sampling.
3. Cheats and Codes Disc
Self booting, minimal GS Code release that had about 5 or 6 games on it along with programmer's cheats. This could not be added to (at least, not that I can recall).
All 3 version can be used as a Boot Disc for imports, but not back-ups.
I'm not sure if there was ever an upgraded version of the hardware on the first package. If there was, it was 1, at most 2 revisions.
The best one is the Lite, IMO, if only because you can use the more stable Sega VMU as the Dongle rather than the Interact one. On a side note, if you can still get online with your DC...somewhere there was a fan-made 'upgrade dongle' file that pretty much had every DC code available for it up until the system's demise. The kid was a hardcore DC/GS fan; I downloaded it for kicks, and it was quite complete.

I've got the "Lite" version for Dreamcast. I've only used it a handful of times, but it's easy enough to use.
