I've cleaned and buffed the leads very VERY thoroughly. But I still get the White Screen of Death. Is there anything else I can do for these two hucards?

Did you take an eraser to the contacts? If not, try that. That always does it for me.
Maybe try turning the system on and off repeatedly until the game comes on. Also try inserting and removing the card repeatedly. That stuff usually works for me.

Could be the contacts on your system are filthy. The white screen means your system is working with no card.
