i don't think this was posted before and i thought this was an interesting article, although it was short and didn't give quite enough info.

So after Nintendo's plight of expensive proprietary formats, Sony is adopting an even more expensive proprietary format?

Since they are switching to cartridge based discs, does that mean the PS3 will no llonger be backward compatible? Or does it mean they will sell empty cases for you to put your games in?

The possibilities of this technology are [currently] limitless, but it also steps up a variety of new problems. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Heh. Do you think the first comment is facetious?

Wow, longer cut scenes, better quality FMV and a few more music tracks. Just what I always wanted.

The first comment is undoubtedly facetious. That fellow is even crustier/less prone to being swayed by eyecandy than even I am!

I look at a game like Unreal Tournament 2K4 and think "wow, this new media format will allow games AT LEAST TEN TIMES the size of UT2K4 games." That's a happy thought.

Of course there's the slight problem of this ratcheting up the amount of development time considerably. Pretty soon it will take a virtual hamlet of developers to develop the newest games...
