At a German CD32 forum, we're currently collecting data from the CD32s (see here (http://cd32.emubase.de/?page=hardware/cd32_reg)). I am personally interested in deciphering the serial no. (the barcode sticker on the bottom of the console), just for fun =) But I still need more data ... so if you'd like to contribute, could you post your serialnumber here along with the year/month of manufacturing and the country code? Especially you US collectors would be interesting, as the US consoles are so rare. But any CD32 is welcome :) Thanks!

OK, not the GP32 (for some reason I thought of that first). Sounds interesting - are you looking for patterns that might help identify country/date of manufacture? "For fun" is a good enough reason though :P

The country and manufacturing date are written in plain text next to the serial no., but they're important for figuring the rest of the number :) Here's what I got so far:

OK, now I'm confused.

Does the XXX in the third row represent part of the label being unreadable? An' what does it boil down to seeing that you have country code and date (oops, I noticed those, that observation didn't connect with the rest of my brain), anyhow? I suppose you'd be able to tell if there was a marking in there that told when a certain unit recieved the stamp, but do you think you'll be able to figure out things like production shifts?

As you can tell I'm rather interested as well to find out how the serial works LOL

jwl: Thanks for posting yours, I added it to my list =)

Ed Oscuro: Yes, the XXX means it's unreadable, but it MUST be 851 :)

About the production shifts ... that's probably really difficult to figure out, we'd need two consoles produced in a row (like 001590 and 001591) to notice one of those ... I'm also confused about that X value and what it means ... maybe more data helps =) But as a side-effect, we could determine for example how many consoles were produced/sold, as C= hardly ever release sales figures of any of their hardware ... and also, who owns the oldest one (currently that's me with #754, hooray :D).

Deciphering numbers is fun ^^

Thanks Keir and icbrkr for your input =) Due to the help of two persons from the other forum, who already were further in the analyzation than I was, I updated the table above ... so the revisions are actually the week the console was produced in (doh). Now all we have to figure out is what X stands for ... the very weird number I had in the list turned out to be only the number from the box of the console (and it had X=4), I updated the table accordingly.

icbrkr: Are you 100% sure it says 851>05<? Because that week doesn't fit in if you take a look at the list (I marked your entry :)

Keir

Perhaps it is some sort of regional code? The 4 US consoles have 2, 2 French consoles have 3 and the rest have 1. There's that one French console with a 1 though.

Yep, I'm positive:

Just bumping this old topic, maybe we've got some new CD32 users who would like to share their serial number?

Sorry to get off topic, but while we are on the subjest of CD32's are the PAL systems compatible on US TV's?
thanks, I have wanted one but I only see imports on ebay.

Thanks for your submission caut, every single one is greatly appreciated ^^

PDorr3: Yes, plug an Amiga mouse into port 0 and keep both mouse buttons pressed while the machine is booting, this will get you into the early startup screen where you can switch from PAL to NTSC temporarily.

Wow, thanks for all your contributions, they will all be added to the master list soon =)

(1) PAL
(2) NTSC
(3) SECAM

perhaps?

Heh, that could be possible, although it's not quite consistent, because there are (very few) French consoles that don't have 3 ... still, it's the best guess we have so far I think ^^

Yeah, I noticed that too. If possible, it's probably worth comparing the boards on a French '1' model with a French '3' model to see whether there's any noticable differences...
