I have returned again after deciding that it was worth trying to sign up for this board. I've been busy recently so sue me!

Anyways, I have come to ask a question. In search of a game that I can't find.

An arcade game, in the same era as the Super Mario Bros. arcade game, Karnov, Dragons Lair and the first Rampage. It had fantasy characters, yes with an overhead view. This is NOT gauntlet. It had levels where you rode on lava rifts and some in the forest. You also got attacked by lava golems and some other things. It was alot like gauntlet, but for the life of me I CAN'T find it.

I MUST FIND THIS GAME. Or at least it's name.

Edit: that static on the av is ugly, I gotta put something there...
Help me and my sanity.

An arcade game, eh? I'm coming up empty. There are two games that sound a lot like what you're describing but they're both home console/PC titles:

Dungeon Explorer (TurboGrafx-16, Sega CD) - a four player Gauntlet-style game with more RPG elements. More characters to choose from, more weapons, armor, etc. And a storyline, even.

Soldiers of Fortune [aka Chaos Engine] (Genesis, Super NES, CD32, PC, etc) - a two player Gauntlet-style game with some power-up elements. Not as "busy" as Gauntlet but with more devious level layouts. The first level is on some kind of lava field.

Am I getting warm?

These are more 3/4 view than directly overhead, but it sounds like it could be:

Dark Seal (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=D&game_id=799) (also known as Gate of Doom (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=1199&letter=G))

or

Dark Seal 2 (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=D&game_id=800) (also known as Wizard Fire (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=3736&letter=W))

Looking at these games it isn't Dark Seal or it's sequel. While I have never played Dark Seal, I can't say the game looked like this. The characters are a tad too big on the screen and doesn't hit any cords in my memory.

Can't be Rygar. That is a great game, but it was more arcade like. You know collect the keys and kill the monsters, not a side scroller with roleplaying element.

Digitialpress, hmmm, I will have too look those two games over. Perhaps they are port from the arcade to console. i'll check that out. But you might hit the spot if what you say is true...

Spoon, I've played Battlemasters, and can say, no. This is not the game...

You have NO idea how long this has been on my mind. I have been searching for the name of this game for years...well, I will be back later, hopefully with an answer DP.
