I grabbed Tooth Protectors off of a friend with around 10 other Atari 2600 carts for around $10 total. I found Tengen Tetris in a GS for $7. I also grabbed several complete AVE NES games (Krazy Kreatures, Venice Beach Volleyball, etc) at a Game Stop for $3 or $4 each.

The sources have dried up around here though, unfortunately.

The rarest game that I've bought in the wild was Chavez II for the SNES, which is an R8. I've seen Robocop 3 for the Master System, which is an R9 though, but I didn't buy it since I was out of money. :/

I haven't been at it that long, and recently I've had a break from thrifting; so far I've found Dungeon Explorer's CASE (DOH), and then had a great day where I found a ton of Genesis games including Herzog Zwei :)

Ultima: Quest of the Avatar for NES was another find.

Nothing special for me so far.

I used to collect mostly SNES, but I've recently switched over to Genny and PSX...

SNES:
Adventures of Kid Kleets (R7) EB, $5
Bebe's Kids (R7) Complete, indie store, $5
Kirby's Dreamland 3 (R5) EB, $20
Pac-in-Time (R6) EB, $6
Pocky & Rocky 2 (R6) Indie store, $10
Q*Bert 3 (R5) Indie store, $15
SimAnt (R6) Free from a friend.

Genesis:
Crusader of Centy (R6) complete from an indie store, $10
Gaiares (R5) complete from someone at the CGE2K4 swap meet room, about $10 considering the other games I grabbed. Still pissed that someone else grabbed Atomic Robo-Kid as I was reaching for it, though.

PSX:
Carnage Heart (R5) $30 without one of the manuals but I really wanted this game anyway. :D
Intelligent Qube (R5) Free, no manual though.
Team Buddies (R8 $25 by my printed guide, R7 $40 last I checked online...)...$12 complete at Gamestop. Fun game, too. :)

Also found a complete copy of Phantasy Star Collection (J, Saturn) at a local shop a while back...paid a pretty penny for it and I was neither a collector nor a Saturn owner at the time.

I've found 3 Flintstones: Surprise at Dino Peak over the last year. The three cost me a total of $11 bucks and all were in great shape. I've also found 4 Suikoden 2's, three of which were in mint shape, one with some water damage to the manual. Found a complete Blackjack and Solitaire for the NES for 20 bucks. Had many other great finds, some of which were more valuable, but none as rare as those.

Hmm... i wouldn't say it's my rarest system but by far my best deal. I found an European (PAL) Neo Geo home system, boxed and in very good condition at a flea market several years ago. And the price... about 25 dollar (200 swedish krona)!!! I later sold it with a ten times profit which i now regret though. =(

One fine day I found 3 shrinkwrapped Adventurevision cartridges. Really!
It was at a used bookstore. There was no console to be found, but I got Turtles, Super Cobra, and Space Force for $2 each.

I ended up trading Turtles for a Vectrex and a bunch of games, and I sold the others at the CGE for about $200 each.

But, like a lot of you, if I had found the console, I surely would have kept them all for myself.

That day will always be the best find ever....so far.

Things in the wild...

Well, it's been a LONG time (at least it seems like it), mid 80's if I remember correctly. I got these along with 100 total Atari 2600 games, all for $1 each. A guy was just selling them at a rummage.

These are the rare ones that I remember from the collections I bought:

Halloween - Wizard Video (7 - DP rarity)

Jawbreaker - Tigervision (5)

Marauder - Tigervision (6)

Miner 2049'er Vol. II - Tigervision (7)

Swordquest: Waterworld - Atari (7)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Wizard Video (6)

And, as with most rare games, I traded or sold them away, and don't have them anymore. This was done for various reason:
1 - game too hard (Miner)
2 - game just plain sucked, so out the door with it (waterworld).
3 - someone else needed it and such
4 - I collect to play, not horde :D

That is the best I've done in the wild.

(darn thing is, I remember selling Miner II to get rid of it, as it was too hard, but I just checked a few hours ago just for the heck of it, and I have another copy of it! I was rather surprised to see it in the box of game I have. I have no idea how I got that again. Short term memory is the first to go, or so is said, but this is crazy).

That is about the rarest I've found in WI. Never seen any site of protos where I live. I'm always a bit jealous of those that just find these.

I hardly ever hunt in the wild, but these are my best finds from around 8 years ago:

All Panesian manuals & many other rare NES manuals (included in a batch of 700 NES manuals for 5 dollars...all MINT)
X-COM for PSX for $9.99
Revolving Cartridge Organizers for NES $5 each (This was actually my first find at any thirft store back in the day...3 new & CIB and 1 loose show model...these have only been seen on eBay twice...so they are also extremely rare to come across)

I worked as an Assistant Manager at Blockbuster just as SNES, Genesis, and Saturn games were all being eliminated to make way for PSX and N64 games, so, with my employee discount and privelaged pick among them, I got:

Chrono Trigger with Mint box for $8
Final Fantasy II with Mint box for $8
Castlevania: Dracula X with Mint box for $8
Mutant League Hockey with case for $4
Herzog Zwei with eaten-looking case $2.60

Also, we had this sale one time on used PSX games, and we received a few boxes of them from other stores, so as to mix up our inventories to appease the locals. In one of these boxes was a horribly mangled (but still functioning) copy of Dragon Ball Z: Final Bout, back when it was going for about $200, which I got for $8.

Recently (within the past six months), I've found:

Complete and pristine Gitaroo-Man for $18 (which is maybe my new favorite PS2 game)
Complete and pristine Rez for $50 (sold on eBay for $110)
Complete and pristine copy of Suikoden II for $54 (sold on eBay for $105)

And finally, my favorite recent story: I have been looking very seriously for some time for a decent shape copy of Snow Brothers, Bonk's Adventure, and/or Duck Tales 2 on NES. These were the three games I wanted most in the world on any system. Then, last Thursday, I went into a local, one-off used video game store that I go to frequently to kill some time, and found a mint copy of Duck Tales 2 for $5 that hadn't been there before. It made my day.

Neo Geo AES for $20 from some dumb black guy at the flea market. I was lucky my uncle gave me an extra $10 that day, too. Afterwards he bitched for at least an hour about how the damned thing better work.

At my local used videogame store, I found a perfectly packaged Radiant Silvergun in the Saturn import section! Trying to keep my cool, I asked the cashier how much it was. He gave me a stupid look and told me it was more than I could afford, $300 bucks more. He was right :(

Yep - I found (3) Intv Basic (programming) Carts which were to be inserted into the never released computer module. I paid a whopping $5 for three of these along with a few other misc. classic gaming items. I doubt I will ever score that big again. I ended up selling and trading them away. I do have some photos of them if anyone is interested in seeimg them.
