Regional lockout? Gimme a break, that won't play a role for sales figures at all, neither for kids nor adults. It doesn't play a role for the majority of these board members, and we are all crazy videogame nuts!
Argh... Who says I was talking about the role regional lockout would play in sales figures? I was just stating WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO ME, as the original post asked what each person personally thought of the two handhelds. I'm not going to buy a system because everybody else is doing it or because everyone says it's the best, I buy when I personally am interested in the system and games. And I'm sure as hell a lot more interested in Japanese-designed colorful games, rather American, 3D, "mature" games. Which, by the way, is another reason why I'm currently more interested in the DS than the PSP. Sony are being assholes with their "3D only" policy. It's obviously going to be designed for 3D games, thus resulting in sub-par looking 2D games (like with the N64) if any manage to get published to begin with. Nintendo, on the other hand, is designing the DS to do BOTH well. I really appreciate such a move, and I look forward to playing some beautiful 2D games on the handheld.

Granted.
However, it's hard sometimes to distinguish between statements of personal preferences and realistic estimations about the prospects of the systems since both fuel each other. :)
When it comes to realistic speculations about the prospects of the DS and PSP, personal preferences aren't important and should be forgotten. If wishful thinking and agendas guide estimations it's called bias.

You're right that DS have 2D and 3D but PSP have only 3D. I know all Nintendo Fans and Sony Fans always fight over this about who best system but me? I dont care about who is best? my personal, I would like buy DS because DS have Dual Screens, Touch Screen, Wireless, up to 16 players, DS Games and Game Boy Advance Games in Dual Slots. DS can play in any lighting condition. Nintendo did said Nintendo's guaranteed Wireless can range is 30 feet for against with another players sound like we dont need cable anymore. If anyone not sure which is best? then simple is wait to see to find out what happene? if you like or dislike it. I think DS look Awesome.

I haven't had a preference in videogame systems since the 5200 days. Like a lot of you, I'm just a whore for almost any console, and never take any "sides" because I like them all!
But, NOW IS THE TIME TO THROW MY HAT IN ONCE AGAIN!!!!! :D
I'm gonna take sides in this PSP vs. DS debate. Yes indeedy. And I think I'll vote DS :D Why? PSP = Too pricey. Too unwieldy. It's like a portable DVD player.. cool, but just not the be all end all entertainment that I'd want. DS however, it looks fun. It looks innovative. It doesn't try to give me 3D 200 hour Final Fantasy. It just looks like something I'd want to pick up and play. Those reasons may be good, or they may be just poor horse shit. But who cares. :P So DS, I'm banking on you boy.. get going and kick some PSP ass! LOL Let the battle begin!! :guitar:

Noted game developer Greg Costikyan has voted for the PSP. The choicest quotes from his blog (http://www.costik.com/weblog):
"In short, [the DS is] kinda cute, but puzzling. It's clearly not enough to stave off the PSP, and the dual screens are an oddity rather than a big advance."
"I like [the PSP], a lot, and wonder whether Sony is about to turn Nintendo into a smoldering ruin--they make virtually all their money from GBA these days, GameCube is almost an afterthought. If the price is right, Sony may well eat GBA for lunch. We shall see."

I don't like the assertion that the Nintendo DS will be Nintendo's "last stand defense" in the handheld market. It makes it sound as though Nintendo has been having great difficulty competing against other portable console manufacturers, when everyone who's paid attention to the industry knows that this just isn't the case. Nintendo has struck down every threat to its monopoly of the handheld market without much effort. Almost invariably, the competing systems were more powerful than Nintendo's, but that didn't save them from customer neglect and ultimately, an early retirement.
I think it's silly to assume that Sony will instantly crush Nintendo just because it's Sony. Sure, they've had the golden touch up to this point, but their luck can't last forever. No game company is immune to financial blunders, and I think Sony is long overdue for theirs. There are a lot of factors working against the PSP (high price, low battery life, Sony's reputation for making less than reliable hardware) and even the mighty Sony brand name isn't enough to make people forget that.

I just dont find myself buying a DS, I think its whole dual screen, touch screen idea is lame and ugly. The whole gameboy series got pathetic, it went from the original, to the pocket, to the color, to the advance, then to the advance sp. Its such an obvious marketing ploy that was fed to millions of 5 -10 year olds. I hope that the DS, as corny as it looks, means the end of the gameboy series.
I maybe bias toward nintendo, but only towards their handhelds. :D
Everyone is going to hate me now, but its just my opinion.

Yeah, isn't it pathetic how Nintendo has released four new iterations of the Game Boy over a 15-year period, including technological advancements to the hardware only when they won't adversely affect battery life or require an ureasonable price point? No wonder they've only sold more than a hundred million units to those gullible preteens.
And how dare Nintendo redesign its hardware to be more stylish and affordable! It would be like Atari releasing a redesigned 2600, or Sony releasing a redesigned PlayStation. Wholly unacceptable!

Its unbelievable, My sister bought an advance for my nephew not too long ago for about $100 or whatever the cost was. Then they release the SP,
now try telling a 6 year old that he cant have it because its the same thing but it just looks different.
So she dished out another $100 on the advance sp which is the same thing just smaller.
Its crazy.... :o

The biggest competitor of the DS will be it's own second screen, the biggest competitor of the PSP will be it's own price tag. The latter is much easier to deal with than the former.
The biggest competitor of the DS was it's 2nd screen? Did that even make sense? :? LOL
I don't know if the price of the PSP was it's "downfall", but it did make it harder for the kiddies to buy, and that's a large demographic neglected right off the bat when you price it too high for most moms to give as a gift.
But anyway, I think it's still too early to decide a winner if there even really can be one. I can say I think the PSP kicks ass still. The DS is just the more accessible one for the populace. As for me, as long as I have both.. it's all good. :D

The DS is hands down a better system. When Sony gets their heads out their butt, they will see what a big mistake the made with the PSP(and PS3).
It seems like they are trying to force all this tech on people, and trying to make the public believe that they need it.
Who cares if you can go online, watch movies(at $20+ a pop), listen to MP3s; does it play video games? They raise the price with all this tech and call it 'elite'.
Yes, I am a 'proud' owner of a PSP. A PSP which collects dust on it's "huge LCD screen".
Maybe I am a little on the defensive. I wish people would relieze that the DS(and Wii) are much more fun. Isn't that was games are all about?
