The old days offered no real "decorating" choices. Okay, maybe you had some slight variations on a machine: white TI, woodgrain-less 2600, etc., but THESE days, there are lots of colorful consoles and controllers to choose from. Which approach do you like best, and of course... why?

In general I prefer a console to be available in one style only. I just picked up the GC platinum though and I think it should just be the standard and not limited edition because it looks so much better. I think they should do a limited, limited edition of the Platinum that has faux woodgrain panelling like an old Pioneer reciever. Now that would be cool.

Ha! I'm the first "I don't care" vote!
I rarely sit on the fence with issues regarding gaming, but this is one I can truly say doesn't matter to me. Over the years I've purchased all kinds of third-party controllers that "don't look like" the console they're designed for, so I've kind of adapted to having things not look "uniform". On the other hand, I can appreciate a completely uniform system (for example, a PS2 with all of its peripherals in that grill-style, mmmm nice). So ultimately, it's a wash.
Do what ya wanna do.

One damn color. If you want another color console, head over to http://www.colorconsoles.com/. To all console makers: the different colors is too hard on us collectors!
Sure, the Nintendo was 'blah' grey, but we lived with it for a decade right? It's not a life or death situation. Now, what I don't understand is why Nintendo thinks purple is the ultimate color?

I really don't a rat's @$$ if the console comes only in one color or one million colors. The multicolored controller are useful for separating player 1 to 4 (5 with PSX/PS2 and SNES)

I don't care about it enough for it to affect my purchasing decisions, but I do like to have some choices.
The consoles themselves I don't really care about. A single colour or multi coloured doesn't really matter to me. But when I do get to chose I enjoy myself. I went with the black Gamecube and Indigo GBA...
I'm a fan of conformity, but for controllers I like being able to differentiate quickly between my four Gamecube controllers. And I do not purchase anything but the original stuff, so multi-colour options are very much appreciated.
It's really a rather clever marketing ploy. You don't just walk up and grab a GBA - you have to decide which of the colours you want. Makes for a more satisfying purchase to most consumers. It's always good to think you have choices.

i like a lot of colors to choose from, it makes picking out your system or cntroller a little more fun if you buy it new.( to me anyway)

I think the new hardware should support colorcycling.
