View Full Version : Days until the Gameboy Advance Classic Series is Released

What's up everyone! Well, it's exactly one week to the day when the GBA CLASSIC SERIES is going to be released, June 7. Now I know when this series was announced like 2-3 months ago there were posts here and there about what games people wanted and if they were or were not going to get the system, or just the games.
Well now since it's only days until its released, and everything is said and done, I just wanted to know how many people were getting the system, did you reserve it or not, how many and what games are you getting, those kinds of things.
I also wanted to see if everyone knew that the system is a limited edition series so there will only be a limited number made. I don't know for sure, but would suppose, that the games will be made in limited numbers as well. Not so few that only if your lucky you'll get one, but Nintendo will probably stop making them after a few weeks, or maybe until they stop selling so good. I bring this up because I have heard people say that they will be getting one once the price falls or something, but that won't happen. Stores will probably just end up selling out.
I have reserved:
GBA Classic SP System
Donkey Kong
Excitebike
Super Mario Bros
Zelda
That's all I probably will buy. Now, hopefully Nintendo will come out with a second series of games that they are doing over in Japan. I can think of 200+ NES games that I would love to see on the GBA, but I guess we'll see if Nintendo decides to even make a second series. It all depends on how good it sells over here in the states.

I'm planning on picking one up, but I still haven't gotten around to reserving it yet. I've been looking for an excuse to buy an SP, and now I've found one!

Such a great set, so full of nostalgia! Why, I remember how every kid on the block owned Namco Pacman, which was so rare that its very existence was debated at one point! Oh, yes, and BOMBERMAN! We all owned that! I'm glad they're re-releasing it, especially in Europe, where it was NEVER RELEASED IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Oh, and the packaging is just gorgeous too! Those standard, ugly GBA boxes are so much better than the miniaturized versions in the Famicom set.
Thanks, Nintendo!

I have my NES SP reserved, but I don't think I'm going to get any of the games though. I bought them all when they were released on the NES, and I really don't see the need to buy them again. Although the save feature in Excitebike sounds choice. I might pick that one up.
I really wish they'd release an arcade emulated Donkey Kong instead of the NES version. It's just not the same without the Pie Factory and the "How High Can You Get?" message displayed before each level.

I hope they'd do this. This batch of 8 classics they are re-releasing aren't that impressive to me and I'd like to see more. It'd be great if they did a Sports Series, Arcade Series, etc. and put 4 or 5 NES games on one cart, but knowing Nintendo, they'd rather milk it and release them all separately.

I'm interested in getting SMB, Zelda, and Xevious from the US released line, simply because all 3 are perfect portable games for me.

Is Xevious is good? It just looks like it sucks to me. But don't go by that, I have never played it before so don't know really what it's like.
How about Bomberman, any good too?
I think Nintendo's rerelease lineup for this classic series is allright, but defiantley could have come up with some better games for it. (DK, SMB, Zelda, EXCITE. are all ok though!!!!!!)

Well, after the whole GBA Video fiasco, I've decided to instead of trying to collect BOTH the GBA Vid's and Classic NES games and just collect the NES games. Will save a lot of money in the long run too.
I just have to collect one of them, and it'll be easier and cooler to collect the old skool NES games instead.
Every week or two I will buy one. And if they come out with more, and here's hoping they do, at least until Tetris, Dr. Mario (Already in Japan) and Star Tropics and maybe even Dragon Warrior come to be. Then they can stop.
I will collect all of them, and probably in the end buy the NES GBA to complete the collection. At least it's easier to collect all of something when you start from the beginning. Plus they'll look damn cool on my shelf. And in my GBA case.

It would be cool to just put all the games on 1 disc, but me personally I wouldn't like it. I think its alot funner to collect, as other ones have said, when there is a bunch to get. I also don't care because I am not as broke as I used to be back in the day so can usually afford everything I want.
I like that each game is seperate!

Hell, I'd pay $100 for a Cube disc with EVERY NES game available. Sad thing is they'd leave off the unlicensed ones and anything Tengen even the licensed ones. Any company they don't like would be gone from the disc.
Still, that would be quite a collection.

Hey, so it's not able to work with the GB Player, I never thought about that until now. :o I would have gotten alot of the video's if they had some older toons on them, but none of the new vids interest me. Except for the Turtles, maybe a little.

The GBP isn't the problem. It's the fact they screwed up the box and put false advertising on it. I bought it under the impression I was getting Bubble Stand. But didn't. Can't wait until Wednesday, I'm calling them and asking them what's up.
After that, I lost interest. I don't wanna collect them anymore.. at least until they are cheaper. Maybe. But not like they are now.

Yeah, all the unlicensed game would be left off, actually unless nintendo wanted to pay other companies, they would only be able to make a disc with ONLY nintendo produced games.
I do wish Nintendo would make more rereleases for the GC. Just better picture on that!

Oh yeah, sorry to seem like I didn't really realize the problem, that does suck that they mispackaged it!! Espcially since it's the episode you wanted! I just also didn't realize that those vidoes didn't work with the GBA player for the GC.

It's very strange. I wonder, did they either purposely make it not work? Or, could it be an incompatibility problem? Either way, the video would probably look really bad on a TV. Whatever.
Anyway, it's still a great idea, and maybe I'll but one if something comes along I really want. But for now, I'll pass. More money for Classic's. :)

Yeah, I was hoping Nintendo would do something to make the NES GBA more look like the original NES. Either way though, it really doesn't matter to me if it doesn't! I like it just in the pics I have seen!! Haven't heard until know about ridges thing you stated above.
So you are getting a NES GBA, but no games until the price is lowered. And when you say they are gonna stayed sealed, does that mean you will never open them? Are you gonna open up your GBA NES and play it or just collect it too?
Don't think you will be finding any classic gba games in the bargin bin, I mean its hard enough to find regualar GBA games onsale.

Yep, I saw a commercial on tv at around 3:00 am on Spike TV. Some guy leaning on a car playing the NES SP. I believe it also had the "Who are you?" thing going on.
@NintendoMan- I own all of the classic games being re-released. I will also be getting a flash card to emu on my GBA. This pretty much gives me no reason to open them. I already own a GBA Sp. I will open the system and test it, then put it on display.
You may be right about them not hitting the bargain bin. I just believe that some of them won't sell well, and be lowered very quickly. It just depends on how many people outside of collectors really want to drop that much on "old" games. We will see.
What are you going to do with yours?

Good question. I don't FULLY exactly know yet. I too own all the games that are being rereleased. My main thing is too not open any of them. One of my main things in collecting is sealed, new nes stuff. Espcially the games. So there is a 50% chance of just collecting the whole series, and the other 50% to open up and play.
If I end up having the money, I most likely will buy 2 of everything, maybe? But anyways, I am more leaning on just collecting the series.

I don't know. I might have grabbed these if they were miniaturized versions of the originals, like in Japan. As it is, they use crappy (and often inaccurate, look at Zelda) art on a standard GBA box. There is nothing appealing about these to me.

There is nothing appealing about these to me.Yes. This is what saddens me. Japan cares about the packaging. They put a lot of thought into their Japanese Famicom releases.
But when they decide to do the same here, it's a plain cardboard box with a black background. EVEN ZELDA has the black background! Why not GOLD? Like the ORIGINAL? They could have at least made the boxes scale versions of the NES ones.
Saddened we don't get this in the US:

The day mine arrived, I was happy. I love the packaging. The clear plastic outside. Miniature Famicom box inside. Click the pic to see an exploded view of all the parts. Shows the thing to scale. The miniature Famicom box is only slightly larger than the GBA Cart. It's pretty small.

I agree 100% I have been bitching about this for awhile. I would assume that this is semi-aimed at collectors. Why not put a little more effort into it? They want gamers/colectors to plunk down another 100+ but not give them anything special? Do they think that they can't find pics of the awesome Fami inspired stuff that was released? And, as already stated, atleast get the packaging correct.

On top of that, you could only get it through the Mario Club in Japan (the Japanese equivalent of the Stars catalog in Europe) once you'd registered all ten games with the site. I'll take a pick of the sleeve for it, it's got pixelated characters on it from all 10 games in that first set. Very cool. Very limited. What color are the carts? Please don't say they're normal color, (Dark greyish/black) that would be another nail in the head. They should at least be distinct. The Famicom ons are the distinct Red/White-cream color the Famicom was. The NES games should either be the Cart grey, or two shades of grey like the NES was. Please, Nintendo, don't let me down.
[Crosses fingers. Hopes someone hasn't bought them to keep them sealed.]

I hadn't thought of cartridge grey for the other games, I was too busy praying that Zelda would be gold.

About the color of the carts, yes they are in the light grey like the NES carts. Much nicer look if you ask me. And no.....Zelda is NOT gold. There's no gold ANYWHERE!!

I'm sure someone will explain it to ya.
Please do explain! I need to know!
Yes I would like to hear this too. "Someone will explain it to ya" sounds like a chickenshit cop-out to me. What's so wrong with Wal-Mart? Do they kill baby seals in order to offer lower prices or something?

1) they are a worse monopoly than Microsoft
2) they treat their employees very poorly
3) they do not pay their employees well
4) they make employees work overtime without compensation and claim that they should do it in the Wal-mart spirit or whatever they call it
5) they misrepresent their stores as offering lowest prices than anywhere else, when in fact sometimes their prices are HIGHER than other stores
6) they have lots of goods made in sweatshops and misrepresent those products as "Made in the USA" when in fact they are actually made in U.S. territories, not in the actual U.S.
7) they claim credit for cheritable acts when in fact they are not the ones who do the work
they have shitty products
9) they put businesses out and when those businesses are gone they raise prices at their own stores
10) they bully their way into locations
11) they bully suppliers
12) once again THEY ARE NOT THE CHEAPEST RETAILER OUT THERE, PEOPLE
This is just a little bit of the story, but it's all true.

About the Circuit City sale...has anyone bought sale games from there before? Is there usually plenty to go around or are quantities limited? The reason I ask is because I've heard the stores will put out only 4 or 5 sale games out to sell and once those are sold out, they'll start selling them at regular prices. Is that how they do it?

If they really are having as sale on Sunday on these things, I will go early as I can. If I miss out, I'll just go to the GS and look for other stuff. No biggie, but I would like a shirt. What does it look like?

Didn't see anyone one comment about the actual SP itself, so here goes the rundown:
The thing is goddamn beautiful. And I don't care for portables.
The NES control pad design has a real texture 'feel' to it, and the very bottom is a darker grey then the top, so when closed it looks like the NES deck. The illusion is made better because Nintendo actually painted the 'vents' on top of the GBA. The vents are more of a light grey then the real system black, but it can not be denied that open or closed the system is a freaking fanboy wet dream.
The box itself is 100% tribute to the NES box, right down to the screen shot arrangements on the back of the package.
Collector's notes: All the game boxes we got had the "Multiplayer Requirements" printed on seperate stickers that were slapped onto the box where the real printing *should* have been. Neat variant for those who like that sort of thing.
Also of note: The SP and all of the Classic NES games come with the serial number cards like Mario Kart and Mario Party did. My friend bought the entire line up plus system, and registered them from work by calling his brother at home and reading the numbers off. LOL
His theory is that Nintendo *may* provide some sort of unique gift to the early adopters (what we have no clue) but if you were able to get 4 free Zelda games by buying two GC games, they gotta give ya something for buying $250+ worth of GBA stuff.
He hopes. :)
**EDIT**
Just wanted to add, we got all of ours straight form Nintendo, with just enough to cover presells and have like, about 5 systems for walk ins. Tomorrow EB stores should be getting the 'real' shipment for everyone. S unless there is like some mad rush for them, you should be able to pick them up anywhere on the 7th.
