I tried out AE2 last night & got pretty far into it, even got past the 1st boss (the blue ape on the motorized unicycle). Well, the game awards you goodies for coins you pick up, & one of the first things I got was part(s) of a "Monkey Fable", a story where a guy drops his banana in a fountain, & a fairy appears. She asks him if his banana was silver or gold, & he says neither, so she awards him a gold & silver banana for telling the truth.

Anyone know where this is going? *spoiler ahead*

There's a point in SH3 where you plug in a hair dryer & throw it in water to kill a lurking monster. If you have/throw your pipe in too, a fairy appears & gives you the same treatment as in the Monkey Fable! I thought this was very strange.

AE2 is by Sony/UbiSoft. SH3 is from Konami. I dont see the tie-in...

Can anyone shed some light on this?

If i remember correctly its based on a Japanese Folklore about being rewarded for telling the truth. So it went from bananna's in one "FABLE" to hairdryers and a pipe in another. Simple really.... Games user fables all the time in their stories.

That sounds about right. Remember in Zelda a LTTP when you threw a iitem into the fountain and the fairy would appear?

I've grown increasingly accustomed to having creepy things come out of the Silent hill games, maybe this is a portent that such creepy things will start comming out of the AE series. Who knows maybe one day you won't want to play those games with the lights off either... But then again maybe not. :-P

Jeez, I forgot that about LTTP & Zelda. Your'e right! I guess I was too floored by the "coincidence", or dwelling too hard on the similarity to think it would have a basis in real-world mythology/folklore.

Kinda cool though, no?

Harvest Moon for PS2 had the same thing, throw a friut in the river and a fairy came out!

Folklore sounds about right, still kinda cool though!
