The Collector

It seems like lately i'm seeing a lot of new names here on DP that happen to be from WI. Not everybody puts their location in their profile, so maybe i'm not reading some posts right. But if your from WI, let's hear it. I want to update my local name list.

Cheers

Just pseduo-recentely moved to Janesville from central IL. If any DP people are around, let's hang sometime, play some multiplayer games (I have no friends here as of yet, heh).

And Picket Fences
And Laverne & Shirley

And... some old soap opera that isn't around anymore.

Plus just about every sitcom in existence has had a character FROM wisconsin on... often a regular (Spin City) but sometimes a short appearance.

Everyone's got relatives in Wisconsin on TV... Like Leo DiCap's char, whatever his name was, in Titanic was from Chippewa Falls

And Step by Step
And That crappy show that Norm McDonald recently did, I forget the name, but it was lame.

The greatest part of That 70's Show, is when they mentioned Wisconsin places, like Alpine Valley. I mean, I used to ski instruct there. That would warm the cockles of my heart.

Waukesha County, here. If you glance at my location to the left, it should be pretty easy to narrow it down.

Oh, and Wisconsin isn't boring at all. Anybody who honestly believes that and lives in my beloved homeland is just an idiot.

Also, how can anybody forget f**king Happy Days??? HAPPY F**KING DAYS!!! was set in Wisconsin. LOL

I didn't grow up in Wisconsin, I'm from Germany and lived in six diffrent places in Europe and the US.

Trust me, Wisconsin is as exciting or boring as New York, Berlin, or Chicago. No matter where you live, you take always yourself with you. :)

Some cool things in Wisconsin-

Wisconsin Dells- largest water parks in the country, also some of the largest INDOOR water parks in the country

Milwaukee- City with the largest number of per capita bars in the country. WOOT!

Summerfest- Largest music festival in the country, every summer

GENCON no more alas....

World Championship Snowmobile Races in Rhinelander

World Championship Kayak Races in Wausau

Badger State Games- the largest Olympic-style competition in the world outside of the olympics themselves.

Harley Davidson is headquartered in Milwaukee, so we get insane convoys of 10's of thousands of motorcycles in town every few years.

I love it here :)

Well, I have been telling some of the collectors and people I respect that come into my store about DP. So a few of them are probably lurkers who haven't registered yet.

I like Wisconsin and plan on staying here. If you find Wisconsin boring its because your under 21 or have no friends. Sorry to put it so cut-and-dry, but the last 6 months have flown by and now with christmas this year will be over before I know it.

Yeah, a LOT of wi members on here lately. Pity all you newcomers weren't here when i attempted to start a wisconsin video game collector's association. Heh. for those of you who were in that, and didn't know: IT'S DEAD. I shut down the site shortly after the MGC.

Exactly. At least there are skateparks a lot of places, and yes time is flying by really fast. Its not that bad.

I'm from Wisconsin too :)

Beyond just home consoles, Wisconsin is also a really big state for collecting arcade machines and pinball machines too.

Ah, well, your age doesn't matter too much when you're up in Madison. Everyone gets away with everything, it's ridiculous.

Well, during school, especially Halloween.

I'm a Wisconsin native, I love the State despite all the inbreeding. Lived in Wausau, Stevens Point, Baraboo, Holmen, and Trempealeau (represent!)... I dont think I could have had more fun growing up in any other state. Even though home is NYC, and the family lives in MN, Wisconsin is always number 1. In fact, I like beer and cheese more than most videogames. Go Brewers!

Well I live in the UP of Michigan, so you might as well call it Wisconsin. It's a closer drive to at least two other state capitals than my own... I don't think there's any other state where the easiest and quickest way to travel to a different part of the state would be to go through two other different states. Lived most of my life about 10 mins. from the wisconsin border... now at school it's about an hour and a half away. I'll probably be moving to Wisconsin after school, I like the state... don't forget among the good things is the Packers!

Milwaukee- City with the largest number of per capita bars in the country. WOOT!

I found a stat online saying Milwaukee had 1 for every 1600 people. I got one that will beat it... Hurley, WI with a population of about 1900 and containing probably 30+ bars, including about 6 strip clubs. Don't know the exact stats to back up my claim of Hurley being the most bars per capita though.

10 mins from the border???
What city? I used to live in marinette on the WI side(which is just a bridge away from the UP...marinette-menominee might as well be one city)

I lived in Holmen for a few years (so I understand the inbreeding comment), and have had a few girlfriends from Trempealeau (and other GEThigh students).

I'm from Bessemer. It's on the Western Tip of the UP. Now I'm going to school at Northern Michigan in Marquette... in the center of the UP

Hey any of you folks in the Milwaukee area have a working Sega CD? I have a loose copy of Lunar: Eternal Blue that's rather scratched, want to test if it works or not.

Thanks!

And to dude that was talking about skateboarding...I think I may have already talked to you on here, but I run that wiskate.com website. I have skated at the Janesville park plenty of times, that place is hilarious and crappy.

I'm not even really into the game collecting "scene". I've just collected nes games for as long as I can remember. I can't really comment on how the scene is here, as I don't even really know anyone else who collects videogames.

I'm a FIB at the moment, but am a Wisconsin boy originally -- born in Oshkosh, youngster in Eureka, young adult in Omro, college in Madison, back to Omro & Oshkosh for a while...

WI is only boring if you're an urbanite and aren't in Milwaukee or Madison. Otherwise things can be a bit rural, but come on. You can watch TV, see movies, read, play games, chat with friends, etc, even if you don't like to go outside. And if you do, hey, the state is beautiful.

Damn straight!

Our northern forest is one of the largest virgin forests left in the continental 48.

But you forgot to mention Green Bay/Fox River and even the Wausau area are good urban areas too.
