I'm obsessed with Greek Mythology, and even more so with video games :D...but where do the 2 merge together? the only thing i can think of off the top of my head is Kid Icarus, but im sure there are quite a few more..im trying to make a quick little list of games, try um out, see if any are any good...so if anyone knows any games that have anything to do with greek myths that would be awesome:

LIST:
Kid Icarus (NES)
Kingdom Hearts (part of) (PS2)
Age Of Mythology (PC)
Aegean Voyage (Commodore 64)
Phelios (Genesis)
Battle for Olympus (NES)
Athena (NES)

Gods (SNES)
Lunar Silver Story (PSX)
Day Dream'n Davey (NES)
Altered Beast (GEN?)

No mention of Phelios yet? It's very much based on Greek mythology. Here, read this: The Dark Secret Of Phelios (http://www.geocities.com/opcfg3/phelios.html), and find out more about it.

I second Battle of Olympus... it was like Zelda II meets the Greek myths.

Will Rock for PC. Its an average FPS set in the whole greek mythology scene (your an archeologist) thats also bundned with most mid-range video cards (9600xt, etc).

Worth playing for co-op though.

I think Gods was based on Greek Mythology. It was a pretty nice platformer that came out on the Amiga and SNES.

Dunno if the following would count, so let's see...

Herc's Adventures for PSX
Any game based on Disney's "Hercules" movies
Any game based on the "Hercules" or "Xena" tv shows

Hey, there was a Genny one too. ;)

There's also Zeus: Master of Olympus for PC which I guess is based on Greek mythology. Just guessing, could be a longshot. LOL

Altered Beast

Anything else I can think of has been said already.

Rygar on PS2 has a greek feel to it. The big statue boss you fight in the collessium has one head that looks like Neptune (Posiden which is probably spelled wrong).

I'll second Rygar: The Legendary Adventure as well. It's based on Greek mythology, even though it uses very few story points or characters from the actual myths. Hell of a game, though.

A few obvious ones that I can think of right now:

Populous
Powermonger
Act Raiser
Act Raiser 2

Don't forget Legendary Wings (NES). While Futuristic it has Greek Roots. Also Black and White (PC) in many ways can be seen as getting its start from the greek gods.

The second level of Castlevania Bloodlines for Genesis is very Greek-based, ith lots of Minotaurs to kill.

The upcoming PS2 game God of War is Greek Mythology based, and looks really awesome too.

Also, don't forget that there was a 2nd Kid Icarus game for Gameboy.

Myth (on 8-bit and 16-bit computers but console-wise also on the CD32) has a fair few mythical bad guys such as Hydra.

tangent, sorry, but yeah I've beaten it several times, a WONDERFUL game. The final level is tough, but a LOT like the Gannon fight in Adventure of Link. Find the weak point in its attack, exploit. (If I recall it involves the boss jumping).

back on topic. The "Collector" level in Silver Surfer (NES) is sort of Greek/Roman themed.

And what about No Escape! (2600)

Ahh, Battle of Olympus....one of the very best games ever for the NES...and most people don't even know it. I did beat this game back in the day. I believe it only took me 3 days. I had two friends that did it in 2. The music in this game is incredible. The last level I didn't think was that hard, but that damn Minotaur! AGGGHHH!!!

The entire Castlevania series is huge on not just Greek mythology, but any sort of mythology as well. For example, Medusa is one of the series' most reoccuring bosses, having appeared in more than half the titles. Also, the DSS Action cards in Circle of the Moon are all named after... oops, I guess they're Roman Gods. LOL

Words fail me. I'm just going to plug to an excellent page on an excellent site.

Aaaaaaaaaand...

http://www.classicgaming.com/castlevania/myth/sotnweaponmyth.htm

Most of those aren't Greek, but I'm running out of ideas here. LOL

Final Fantasy Legend II has a lot of close ties to Roman Mythology, if I remember correctly (Roman Myth is deeply intertwined with Greek Myth, usually revisiting the same stories with different names).
