Well, you know, it's possible to be into multiple generations of consoles. Most of us here actually have several consoles spanning the past 2 or 3 decades.

For example, in my case, I own several consoles ranging from the 2600 jr, the colecovision and the Intellivision 2 to the GameCube and GBA SP.

So yes, there are many Atari fans here, but they tend to like other consoles too!

I guess I fall into the category of being primarily an Atari collector - 2600, 7800, and 8-bit primarily and I also collect somewhat for the colecovision. I've got an SNES with just 5 games. I don't really "collect" SNES, I just pick up games that I like to play. (Looking for SNES Mspacman and Hit the Ice BTW :D )
I've also got a genesis and an NES but I basically just keep them around to test games that I sell or trade.

So yea, bottom line, I'm primarily an Atari collector. 8-)

I was/am a huge Atari fan until I discovered Sony's world. I still have 2600, 7800, 800XL system, Lynx, & Jag.

Not to take "business" away from here, but you should also check out www.atariage.com. You'll see many members from here over there.

Heck, yeah! Atari 2600 is what I grew up with... it will always be a favortie. I also like Colecovision, GameCube and PC stuff.

My atari 2600 is my favorite system, out of all the systems I have.

Kaboom will never die.... I'm teaching my 10 month old to hold the paddle and play it.

yeah, I'm primarily a VCS fan. I also hit up the NES a bit, and some of the modern stuff that strikes me, but my heart is with the 2600.

Coincidentally enough, I just finished playing Circus Atari not even 5 minutes ago!

I played about 4 games through - the first couple of games were working out the 'jitters' in the paddle, and on the last game I played (the one I just finished), I scored 9531. I was playing the first game on the cart, Difficulty B.

Circus Atari was always a great, underrated game, in my opinion.

I think the quote at the top of the page really sums it up for most of us.

Die hard gamers with a decidedly retro edge. Remember games like Phoenix, Jungle Hunt, Gunstar Heroes, Streets of Rage and Radiant Silvergun but have no problem wreaking havoc with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City? Well then... welcome home.

I still love the Jag, but that's about it. The 5200 & 7800 are cool though. But the 2600? Please. You have to be the hardest of the hardcore to still appreciate it, and it just doesn't hold any magic for me anymore. I say RIP.

There are about 1 or 2600 people into Atari here.

There are simply more people out there into Nintendo. And the population here at DP is non-discriminatory and a reasonable sample of collector/gamer folks.

What is key about this group is that we generally accept one anothers video game preferences and interests without expecting any one company or system to be the k001e5t or the dominant focus of topics.

Digital Press is about Video Games, not about Atari or Nintendo- it's about Atari AND Nintendo. And everything else Video Games. And Sega. And Sony.

After the birth of our first child, my wife and I decided to buy our first game system to substitute for the times we would no longer be spending at the arcades. That was an Atari 5200 and we still have it. Our struggles with Pitfall II are memories we both treasure to this day. And River Raid gave me my first inkling that shmups would become something more than just another genre to me. I still pick up games for the 5200 now and then, but never felt a strong urge to get all the titles for it, even though it's library is quite small. I think the considerable time I have spent with the 5200 controller, maybe influencing that decision. LOL

I'm not a big atari fan...I have a 2600 with about 40 games though. They're pretty fun, but they're not something I go too far out of my way to get. It was just before my time, I guess.

Quite true, although the discussion in this forum does tend to skew more toward modern systems and games.

It was just before my time, I guess.

And I think that is the key here. If you didn't grow up with it you may not appreciate it as much as someone like myself, who's video game initiation game with the birth of the VCS in '77.

BTW, someone mentioned Circus Atari previously in the thread. That is hands down my favorite VCS game. Love it!

I must've played Vanguard, Megamania, and two-screen Donkey Kong every day in the summer of '83.

I collect all generations, but mainly for the newer stuff (ps2, gc, xbox, some psx) simply because its more readily available to me outside of ebay. I have most of the older generations of systems, but I dont have as many games for them as I would like.

I always wanted a home version of Phoenix, but as far as I know, the closest anyone ever got to it was Demon Attack on the 2600. Now I did love that game, and Atlantis, one of the other Imagic games. So if you count those, I guess maybe I do still have a little nostalgia left for it, since I grew up with it also. But I've just become so spoiled, ever since the 16bit generation began, so it's hard for me to really appreciate the ancient relics on 2600 anymore. I found where my parents hid the Megamania cart that I wanted for Christmas one year, and got up early every morning to sneak in some playtime with it before everyone else woke up, and I did the same thing with Atlantis and Demon Attack. By the time Christmas finally came, everybody was amazed, and wondering how I could possibly be so good at them all when I just got them. I thought that I was gonna get busted for sure, but I just started messing up on purpose and said see, now you're making me mess up! That was the funniest thing. I can't believe I got away with that, and nobody ever knew. Maybe they did know, and just never said anything about it.

Yep, I'm an Atari Addict too. The 2600 is my favorite piece of Atari hardware. The games on the system, while "fugly" by today's standards, are brilliantly retro and just as much FUN as ever.

OMG, you know what, I actually had that game! See, that's how much I've almost completely forgotten the 2600 now. I can't even remember what all I had! I guess I was just wishing that there was an arcade perfect port of it or something, major brain fart there. I guess I really am becoming a relic now!
