View Full Version : Fable suspicion... good rumor

Hey folks!

Time to start a good rumor...

I've got a fairly good reason to believe Fable will be bundled with Xboxes for a christmas bundle!

Here's what happened...

Tuesday, the day Fable shipped, our District Manager (DM) drives down to Chicago to get them, so that we get them in a day early. Our store receives 66 copies for a preorder of about 50. We sell 50 that day.

Wednesday, we get an overnight shipment of Fables that I don't open up because we don't need them yet.

Later that day we get a normal shipment of Fables that I open up because we're getting low. First shipment (FedEx overnight) still unopened.

Now, later that day I open up the overnighted shipment of 30 Fables. NONE of them are sealed with shrinkwrap, and ALL of them have "Not intended for individual sale" stickers on them in place of barcodes" I call my DM who tells me that the normal manufacturer who puts the DVD cases together with the discs and manuals and inserts didn't make enough to cover EB's preorders, so some stores got shipments from "other" sources.

So why would Fable be labeled with "Not for Individual Sale" stickers???

Because they are going to be bundled together with something...

My best guess is a holiday bundle. My manager thought it might possibly be an Xbox live bundle with a patch to make Fable playable through Xbox live that has been rumored for a couple months now- ever since they announced they scrapped live content for release.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a reasonable assumption. A Fable/Xbox bundle would probably be enough to make me finally buy an Xbox. I've been waiting for Fable for a while, but I'm not willing to throw down the $50 plus the $150 right now. A bundle would probably push me over the edge. So here's hoping.

If this is true, Maybe its only me but I dont think the Xbox being bundled with Fable for the holidays is gonna make them jump off the shelf. I dont think Fable is what everyone wants this holiday season. I think that Halo 2 is whats going to be on everyone's want list and the Xbox being bundled with that would bring in alot more sales than with Fable, not to say its not a great game, but just one that doesnt appeal to the mass' like Halo does.

But then again, Halo 2 just might be enough on its own to make people go out and buy an Xbox. I wouldnt buy something because of a game but 2 of my buddies are. I dont know, some people are strange... :o

I decided to buy an Xbox rather than a PS2 because the box was getting Panzer Dragoon Orta.
Strange? Maybe. Any regrets? None.

Are you sure it was in fact Fable, and not the Fable Limited Edition DVD? it was a giveaway with pre-order, the cover is exactly the same as normal Fable, not sealed, no manual.....

I'm positive, I opened one of them to make sure.

Usually a console won't bundle a REALLY hot title with their system for a holiday bundle... Halo 2 will still be flying off the shelves around xmas, while Fable will trickle down within a week or two and be pretty slow by xmas time.

So basically you are saying that you will dump 200 US dollars for a game that has a 12 hour main story and stupid side quests ? Way Too Over Hyped Game, and the game that does not feel like an RPG at all compared to almost all RPGs on PS2 ?

I wouldn't.

It's not supposed to be an RPG like RPGs on the PS2...

And agreed, the main story and even the sidequests are average, but the sandboxing you can do is utterly amazing. Any game where I can marry a different girl in each town and then see what happns when they all meet is a fun game in my book :)

First off, let me express my surprise at someone's speculation actually being somewhat credible and reasonable! Congrats! Anyway, giving away Halo 2 this Holiday season would be ridiculous, as it'll sell a million copies in the first few months (if not weeks or days) it's out, and there's no need. Like someone said before me, Fable will have run it's course pretty much by the time Halo 2 is out and it's time for the holidays, so it would make a logical choice, sort of like the Sega bundle disc from 2 seasons ago. It'll be a nice system mover, and by far one of the most quality pack-ins ever...if it happens.

Your right about Halo as I did mention that in my post. But Fable does lack the type of RPG that Xbox so desperately needs. I think thats why many are still shying away from the Xbox because it lacks any deep RPG's. Im not into those type of games tremendously but if I was I would shun the Xbox as well. I just dont think that bundle is gonna fly off the shelves and make a dent in Sony's market, Personally I think that Sony still outsells the Xbox because they cover many different games even if some may suck they still have their greedy little hands in that cookie jar.

One thing Xbox has on Sony is their Online area which does blow Sony's. If that were a Xbox Live bundle I believe that those would sell alot because they dominate in that area.

Hooray for you, it doesn't change a damn thing. I'm nine hours into the game, it's been pretty good, and how good or long the game is or isn't has nothing to with the topic of this thead at all.

With that said, please trot off to the gamefaqs boards or wherever you came from and stop trolling the thread.

Thanks.

Xbox is not outselling PS2, and never will it. It out sold xbox when the PS2 was still 179.99 and Xbox dropped to 149.99 around the E3 Time.

And Secondly, Killer Fall Lineup ? Xbox's 2004 Lineup SUX....
Xbox is only getting HALO 2 and DOA Ultimate that are worth checking out.

He is saying at this very moment it is outselling the ps2 not that it has sold more than the ps2.

kai,

It is an uphill battle to try to teach the ways of reading comprehension and reason to fanboys.

Also, I was just semi-agreeing with what I had been misquoted as saying. The ps2 might become my system of choice next generation, when the following three things happen:

- HDTV support for a majority of the catalog
- Dolby 5.1 in game (don't hand me this Pro Logic II shit)
- Centralized online gaming, a la Xbox Live or a system like Gamespy

While it [the ps2] certainly has more games, the Xbox has enough to keep me plenty busy at the moment.

Here is the killer fall I was referring to:

- Star Wars: Battlefront
- Halo 2
- Capcom vs SNK 2
- Tron 2.0 Killer App
- SW: KOTOR II
- Splinter Cell 3 (you know which system it's always best on, so I'll spare you the four letters that would give it away)
- MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf
- Second Sight

I didn't need to type this all out to prove you a fanboy, it's just that sometimes I like to give that extra 10%

Yep, I agree, Splinter Cell has always been best on Xbox. I still play Splinter Cell 1, apparantly pandora tomorrow's single player mode sucked compared to 1.

Yes. Wish I had one to call my own :(

By the way, doesn't the XBox have a bunch more titles than the GC? It really seems that way. UGH.

It's funny you said that, I brought up the IGN release dates list to help me remember what all was coming out and I meant to add that one in there, but I closed out the window and forgot what i meant to type so I put Second Sight in there, which looks great in it's own right.

Just as a quick aside, there seems to be a bunch of new posters here, some may be trolls and some may be fanboys, and some are the bastard child of the two. If you feel they are trolling, remember the golden rule: Don't feed the trolls! :)

As far as a XBox/Fable combo, I think its very possible, and as far as not packing in the hot game....wasn't Sonic the Hedgehog the hot game on Genesis at the time?

Ooh Ooh my two cents:

Fable will be all but forgotten when Halo 2 comes out. Microsoft knows it. What better way to get the game into people's hands by selling it with the system? THey always do some sort of holiday bundle. There WILL be a lot of people buying Xboxes this year due to Halo 2.

the xbox is hitting a stride similar like the original PS did about 9-12 months before the dreamcast hit, when we were awash in gran turismo, metal gear solid, FF7, etc.

honestly, i agree with Oob, there is no stopping halo 2 this holiday season, and for the non-owner, halo 2 + an xbox with a good pack in game = teh win!

i have a feeling fable is going to start seeing discounts soon, so i'm holding off on buying my copy...i haven't seen any ads for it on TV (odd for something that's been in development this long), and the RPGZ R00L!!1 fanbois have already painted it as the anti-christ because it didn't live up to expectations, and it's not 40+ hours long featuring a spiky haired angsty protagonist spinning another ghost in the shell-ish "who am i?" self-realization plot involving a bout of amnesia with a side of cheesy puppy-dog high school romance, so i don't think it's going to be moving off the shelves quick.

there's no online mode i need to jump into before it's ruined by squeaky voiced trolls that have found all the glitches, or want to play tag, and try to sound like 400lb prison innmates. LOL

i've been told it's basically like the old sierra kings/space quest games with a serious boost in the technology dept., so i'll definitely have to play it. as a pack-in, i think it would be great, as it's something like JSRF that might otherwise be overlooked by a lot of people, and whet people's appetites for the eventual sequel that will actually include at least 50% of what molyneux spouts to interviewers. ;)

I'll just buy it when it's cheap after it becomes a worthless pack-in. :)

If they come packaged separately (as the previous posts would seem to indicate), that means I'll be getting Fable for cheap later on in this holiday season. One of the few advantages to working in retail... :)
