Guides can be neat. I very rarely use them, though, especially now that information is a click away. Back in the days before GameFAQs, if you got stuck, you were stuck. I remember eventually giving up on Shining Force 2 because I just couldn't for the life of me figure out what the heck I was supposed to do next. If it was too old to be in any current magazines, strategy guides were the only option. Of course, it was an obscure enough game that I couldn't even find a guide for it. LOL

I've gotten guides for:

SaGa Frontier - The ultimate "what the hell am I supposed to do NOW?" game.

Wild ARMS - The guide happened to come with it. It had some neat artwork, great directions through some of the more annoying maze areas, and it happened to just be darned entertaining to read. Turns out it was written by Zach Meston. Funky.

Earthbound - Now this guide RULED. All the little clay figures of the enemies, the newspaper clippings from the cities, the tourist info...
