Expect 5200 Goodness!

I've spent this evening testing and rebuilding 5200 Joysticks, in prep for this Saturday.

I've now got 4 100% functional CX-52s, ready for action, and I'm hoping to get one more working fine by night's end. I'm out of parts to go much further, though, with 4 more dead sticks looking sad in their small pile of unusable joysticks.

Now, let's all hope, pray, and make any sacrifices you think necessary, that the 4 fixed sticks STILL work 48 hours from now!

See you Saturday!

On a separate topic - if anybody going this weekend has:

Spare 5200 joystick parts
An N64 RAM Expansion Pack
5200 Castle Crisis
A GBA Afterburner Kit

I'm interested in them.

Thanks.

I've got one of these for you. I opened it, read the instructions and changed my mind. :)

I just re-read the entire thread, and am impressed/surprised to see so many out of area folks planning to make it. I find it amazing how many people will drive 300+ miles to hit one of these. That's dedication.

I'm in the process of deciding what to bring. I want to travel light, but I've got a bunch of stuff I really want to get rid of to free space (systems, etc.). It seems the last few game nights I've come home with more stuff then I brought. Its a vicious cycle and I'm running out of space.

If anyone plans to bring a turbo express, XE game system, or protector SE for the Jag let me know. See everyone on Satuday.

NoahsMyBro
10-22-2004, 12:46 PM
I can bring my copy of Protector SE if you want to play it/check it out, but I'm not selling it or trading it. Were you looking for one to look at, or one to buy/trade for?

I played it a few years ago at Philly, so if you aren't interested in getting rid of it you might as well leave it home. I never felt like paying for it, so I was hoping to find someone bored with theirs and willing to trade it away.

Considering how many people will be attending, and how many new people will be attending, I'm bringing it all. I did the traveling light thing last time.

You will see pics.

I just returned from Joe's place a few minutes ago and I'm sure there wi;; be (god, it's awfully hard to type witha cat in front of the keyboard AND monitor!) plenty of pics posted soon.

I saw at least 3 other folks there with cameras, in addition to my own, and we all posed for a group shot as well.

It was a blast meeting so many new folks I'd only met via the forums up until tonight, and it was equally great to see everybody I'd seen previously at other events.

I think the night was an unqualified success. There was old-style goodness happening upstairs with the 5200 and the Colecovision. Lively discussion taking place in the kitchen and backyard. MAME and Dreamcast action on one side of the basement, and more Bemani than you can load into an 18-wheeler entertaining the crowd on the other side. We played Guitar Freaks, Donkey Konga, Karaoke Revolution, Pop'N Music (?), and some drum game. As a matter of fact, Mr. DP himself encountered serious competiton on Guitar Freaks (!!!!).

As expected there was dealing going on, and lots of free stuff too.

In addition to the usual Pizza, there were even Pac-Man themed cookies, thanks to Ferg.

All-in-all, a great way to spend a Saturday evening.

Thanks all, it was fantastic.

Now, if the Colts and Saints (yeah, right) win tomorrow, the weekend will be complete.

Great fun, I am exhausted. Thanks to everyone who came and contributed to the fun. I expected Donkey Konga to be as fun as it was with four players, but I never expected so many to partake in Karaoke Revolution :)

I'll add some highlights here as soon as I get this house back in order! For now, enjoy these early photos.

LOL One thing I learned last night was do NOT mess with Kid Ice. This guys crazy. Good story teller though.

It was alot of fun, and karoke was hysterical. Burnout 3 was alot of fun though.... Road Rage multiplayer is awsome. They played so many rythm games, and guitar freaks is still far better.

I picked up a whole bunch of stuff from the free stuff table (including a Pokemon Collesium demo disc @_@ ), I boiught a decent amount of stuff to. I will try and get a list up later.

10-24-2004, 02:29 PM
I'll post some pics later too...highlights for me include:

Selling enough NES games to pay for my trip.

Selling my 130XE back to Joe, after buying it from him 2 years ago.

Realizing that even though I play guitar for a living, I suck at guitar freaks. Really, really, bad.

Trying to convince a drunken Kid Ice that Animal Crossing is not an even trade for Star League Baseball for C64 :)

Gradius 5 medley during Karaoke Revolution

Crashing at DP HQ. Thanks again Joe!

I'm sure I'll remember more later, but now time for sleep.

Ugh, those Pac Man cookies were delicious but so loaded with sugar. Mmm, sweet sweet sugar. I like it but it don't like me. Anyway, highlights for me include:

-meeting tons of new people, and seeing some familiar faces again. I think this was the biggest NJ Classic I've ever been to!!
- playing the 1/2 size Coleco
- checking out Mountain King for the 5200 for the first time
-watching the beauty of Dreamcast Rez in its hi-rez, VGA glory
-seeing the madness that was 4-player Donkey Konga
-checking out some hard MAME shooters that handed my ass to me

I got:

a nifty NES controller with a headphone jack built in!
-from the Free table: some PC-Engine CD backups, including L-dis and Sidearms Special, some game price guides, assorted magazines
A Super Nintendo complete with 2 controllers and Goof Troop, Frogger 2 for Coleco, Wipeout XL for Saturn, Street Fighter Collection disk 1 for Saturn, and a USB-Playstation controller adapter.
Secret of Evermore boxed, Super RC Pro Am for game boy boxed
Katamari Damacy (!!!) shrinked (Thanks Joe!)

Also, the wireless joystick I made a couple of years ago went to Jeff, who will make good use of it with some fighting games, I'm sure. Betty (Eternal Tune) ended up with Langrisser 3 and 4, I'm glad they found a good home at long last. For once I came home with less stuff than I arrived with. Great times, as usual, at Joe's place.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I had a really really great time this weekend! And it wasn't just because I found the bottle of Kahlua behind the bar ;)
I can't decide what I enjoyed the most.. Getting to see all the people I already knew, again *waves*, or getting to meet all the new people that were first timers *waves again*, or finding out how much fun Donkey Konga is while sucking really really badly (it's hard to play when you're having a difficult time remembering which hand is your right and which is your left!), or FINALLY getting a whole bunch of people to play Karaoke Revolution with me (and checking out Volume 2!), including Liz! I have to say, Ferg really kicked some ASS singing.
I hope Mike Etler is feeling a lot better today than he was last night, and I hope everyone made it home safely (especially Jeff, aka Kid Ice, who was having a difficult time navigating the stairs safely ;) ). It was great discussing lesbians in the gaming community, finding out just HOW many fights Jeff/Kid Ice has been in (200?) in his lifetime, finally meeting Adam & Carmen (who are both very fun in person), trying to scare off one of our newer forum members by putting a cigarette out on his hand (I hope it's okay today!), trying out those terrific cookies Ferg made (which took him THREE days to do!), owning the GC Zelda Collection disc for a half hour, and I HOPE I didn't permanently scare Cosmo away from his home :)

I see how it is Joe, arrange for a nice group picture and everything for this meet, BUT when it comes to the week before, attack us with unprepared photo opportunities, and no group photo. :(

Damn I wish I could have made it out to this one too. People need to host some damn Californian meets (besides CGE).

HAHAH! Arrange.. No, it was more like me going through the house and grabbing everyone and saying, "Go outside. On the deck. We're doing a group photo." Took like five minutes, very impromptu! And you're disregarding all the other unprepared photo opportunities that took place :) Although there was no bra weilding Dave there this time ;)

owning the GC Zelda Collection disc for a half hour

Again, my bad. (Being the idiot I am, I mistakenly put a GC Zelda collection I had for trade on the FREE STUFF! table. Major faux pas  ) I will make it up to you next time, I promise.

Aside from the above gaffe, I had a great time as well. The highlights of the night for me were the time spent with Joe's PCE LT :hail: , Getting to try out Taiko no Tatsujin, introducing some fellow action addicts to the beauty of all that is Cave, and finally, the last call Gradius V session upstairs.

It also was great to meet so many new people and place faces with the names on board. Looking forward to next time!

Oh, and MarioAllStar2600, glad to oblige with that Pokemon Colisseum demo!

finding out just HOW many fights Jeff/Kid Ice has been in (200?) in his lifetime

The "200 fights" speech was lifted from the film "Knockaround Guys" with Vin Diesel (I believe in the movie it's 500). I was waiting for someone to call me on that. I did get in a fight in the 3rd grade once though!

I had a blast, and I'll hopefully post something with more substance to it once I'm fully recovered from the 11+ hour car ride. Having the freeway shut down for an hour or so on the way home didn't help matters either.

Many thanks to Joe for having such a fun event. I will school him yet at Guitar Freaks.

Fun playing Burnout 3 versus Marty and Adam....my horrible Karaoke showing @_@ (still fun though, I tried!!) 4 player Konga is alot of fun! Fun playing a few rounds of Soul Caliber 2 with Betty before Sal came up and shook it up! :) Just looking around DPHQ, everywhere you look dowstairs.....GAMES!
Alot of great conversation....

James Dean was freaking me out on mulitple occasions!

This was the best NJ Classic yet. I had a great time seeing everyone again, and meeting tons of new people.

Had a great time playing Donkey Konga 4 players and trying out the new PS2 drum game.

Jeff, your performance might be the funniest thing I've seen all year...kudos to you sir.

Those pac-man cookies gave me an extra 10 pounds...soooooo gooooood. :-P

My highlights include meeting alot of friendly people and swapping video game stories, old college days stories, beer stories, and giving a few "get back at your neighbor" ideas...... Corn flakes in the grass, it works!

Of course I picked up a few games for my SMS, always nice to add to the collection.

Joe, there are no words that can describe your game collection. I saw stuff on your shelf that I didn't know even existed, like Swordquest Waterworld. X_x I bow down in your presence. You also make a mean salsa, damn it was good! (maybe it was just the hot sauce and the corona's.)

Kinda freaks me out knowing I can talk with people all arround the world about video games and yet the guy who runs this place is only 5 minutes from my house. :/

Names and faces...here's who I remembered and gathered from other photos:

http://www.dustincarter.com/images/dp/njcxxx.jpg

Apologies for the large size, it's pretty tough to Photoshop 2-3 large pictures together and add names so they're readable.

I had to edit Jaime and Joe in there since they weren't in the same photo together! I believe that Goblin is hiding, he's next to Drexel on the left. You can barely see his head...

Not 100% sure I labeled Killersquirrel correctly, but deductive reasoning tells me I did.

That's some nice PhotoShoppin', Dustin!

The guy with the baseball cap on the left is "Jim".

The guy obscured behind someone on the back right is "Goblin".

Nah. I am getting my haircut tommorow. That long amount of hair is completly not wanted. :P

I forgot to mention that Spactistic fuctard is awsome. I didn't really talk to him much, but hes awsome. Me and him are the reason Guitar Freaks was played and I think we only played like 1 or 2 rounds each.

I had a fantastic time too! Thanks again to Joe and Liz (I forgot to thank her in person...thanks Liz!) for the food, the drink, and merriment.

I'm glad y'all liked the cookies. I should have put sugar warnings on them, but I figured that a sugar buzz would be okay alongside the regular buzz. LOL

Some highlights for me:

Seeing Mike Etler somewhere else besides in his store! Yay for him!

Jeff's Gradius 5/The Greatest Love Of All medley, sung to the tune of Baby One More time. Pure Genius.

Finally seeing the original Room of Doom. Holy socks. :eek 2:

Playing some games that I only ever read about here (I have NO next-gen systems besides the GBA).

Meeting and talking with some great people. Gamers rule!

And, of course, pork roll and flea markets with TheSmirk on Sunday (we're both expat Jerseyans).

I may even have a snippet of Fergojisan tearing UP "End of the world as we know it" using the actual words on Karaoke Revolution X_x ..... ;)

Thanks for the plug Curt! I guess it was kind of obvious that I knew the words already. I learned them back when the song came out. Since I can play drums and guitar in real life, and sucked rocks at both of those games, I had to redeem myself somehow. But I still got stomped by Joe and Jaime. Oh well, it was a lot of fun.

Thanks again everyone! I hope to see you all at the next one! But I'm not bringing cookies next time. They're like those 7 year locusts. :D

More stuff than I expceted at the fleas (alot of sports games though), but I only picked up complete Nightmare on Elm Street NES for $3

I'm bummed Etler ate all the blue ghost cookies before I could get any. All I got was a bag of left-overs from Etler he handed me on his way out of Joe's bedroom. Its still in my car. I'll get to it eventually.

Otherwise, the sealed copy of Space Harrier for the C128 helped complete THAT collection. Sweet!!!

It was a good time, although I didn't notice Portnoyd wasn't there until I realized nobody had hit their head on the ceiling all night. And it was great seeing Al again and having him call me Alan all night. I can understand, since I've known the man for only about 5 years now. Goofball.

These gatherings get better and better every year. Thanks again, Joe. When is XXX+1?

Any cookie remnants that came out of there wouldn't be to edible. ;)

Gotta remember to lay off the sweets next time. I think I almost gave Hardie a heart attack.

Oh yeah, another highlight for me:

I managed to snap this from the road on my way. I love Fountains of Wayne (the band), so it was cool to see the store that they got their name from.

Step off, Don. Al's THE MAN. When you're living that large, you don't need to remember names. This guy was collecting games when you were getting over your fear of taking a bath.

(PS I will be calling you Alan for the rest of your life) :)

I've been having trouble finding time to get my pics developed. (HINT to my DP Secret Santa -- if you're a rule-breakin' rebel, flaunt the max. $ rule and get me a digital camera this year!)

I've got the film in my jacket pocket and will drop it off as soon as I can. Once developed, I'll scan the pics in and get them posted, scout's honor!

w00t!!! The Smirk and I will be making our way up to the edge of NJ once again. Who else dares brave the evil Garden State highways? SHOW YOURSELVES!!!

And if anyone has a complete copy of Ultimate Air Combat for the NES for cheap, bring it along. I'm the tall dorky guy with the Yankees hat. Hopefully I won't be so chicken to talk to "youse" this time around. :frustrated:
