When you've got an itch for some pinball, and can't play an actual machine, what console pinball game(s) do you like to play? (You can mention games for portable systems as well.)
Here's my favorites:
Pinball (NES) - Could be better, but it's still fun.
Super Pinball: Behind The Mask (SNES) - Three tables, amazing gameplay and graphics. Best console pinball game I've ever played.
Sonic Spinball (Genesis) - Casino Night Zone in Sonic 2 suggested that it was only a matter of time before Sega placed Sonic in a pinball game of his own.
Pro Pinball: Fantastic Journey (PSX) - Empire Interactive released several games in the Pro Pinball series, each centered around one table with a certain theme. The table in this game has a Victorian-era theme. The graphics are good and the controls are similar to Super Pinball. There's a lot of detail in the game and you can control the table to function like it's brand new or like it's been sitting around for some time. I haven't played any of the other Pro Pinball games so I don't know if this is any better or worse than the others. I can imagine that there's really no point to owning them all unless you're a completist.
Pokemon Pinball (GBC) - Not only can you play pinball, you can catch Pokemon while doing so!
I'd like to check out Mario Pinball Land (GBA), which just came out yesterday as well - looks like fun from what I've seen and read. I've also heard good stuff about Pinball Of The Dead (GBA), but haven't been able to find a copy.

Not a console, but Pinball Dreams/Fantasies for the Amiga are the best I've played (although I haven't played many since them).

Pinball Quest (NES), how many other Pinball/RPGs are there? :)

Video Pinball and Midnite Magic on VCS, played both to death.
Also, on XE, Night Mission Pinball, in hi-res mode, excellent game.

My favorite by far is Devil's Crush on TurboGrafx. I also really enjoy the retro machines on the import PS2 game "American Arcade".

Pin Bot is my fave on the NES.
Though they're not strictly classic-style pinball games, I think Alien Crush and Devil's Crush (TG-16) are probably the best pinball games I've played. They're insanely creative. If you haven't tried 'em, and you're into pinball, you should.
For traditional pinball, I thought Last Gladiators for Saturn was great (which I think is a sequel to or spinoff of Super Pinball Behind the Mask. They're very similar.)

We do track genres in our database. This won't include PC games and our genre cataloging is still a work in progress but this may at least help fill in some gaps.

I have to second Devil's Crush. That's the definitive video pinball game, full of gaming elements mixed with traditional pinball. There have been a lot of contenders, but Devil's Crush is the king.
Also, let's not forget Sega's excellent Pinball of the Dead, one of the very best Gameboy Advance games. I appreciated how they drew their inspiration from DC, especially in the first binball board. Add in two more boards, loads of extras, fast action, and you've a no-brainer.
Finally, am I the only one who remembers Bill Budge's Pinball Construction Set? I spent years putting together crazy, messed up pinball boards with that game. When the bloody hell is EA going to bring back their early classics? Tell me this wouldn't be a success today, with the internet and all.

I had that for my Atari 1200XL. I used to build boards that would make the ball get stuck in a loop and max my score out. What a great program....

Not a console, but Pinball Dreams/Fantasies for the Amiga are the best I've played (although I haven't played many since them).
Ditto!
Fantasies has more elaborate tables, but Dreams was a little more polished.
Last Gladiators on Satrun is excellent.
On NES, Pinbot and High Speed are quite good.
Alien and Devil Crush on TG-16 are good.
And Finally I put far too many hours into making my own tables in Pinball Construction Set on the C64!

Good topic. It's funny, after all these years I don't think there's been a game yet that's come close to capturing the experience of playing pinball.
Having said that, my favorite console pinball game is Rollerball for the NES.
I also like Night Mission Pinball for the C64, but that's not really a console game.
There is a really good Genesis pinball game that I've played emulated, I don't believe it's a US release...Psycho Pinball or Pinball Psycho or something like that.

That sounds similar to Virtual Pinball also for Genesis also made by EA. You could make some crazy custom pinball tables and also choose from a bunch of different themes. The best part is you could save like 10 different tables right onto the cart and go back to it later. This would have to be my favorite pinball game by far...

I like pinball, too...and have most (if not all) of the PS1 games as well as several others. I seem to recall the DP Advance Guide didn't think much of Pinball Dreams for the SNES but I really liked that one. Four tables, each with a different theme with appropriate music...my two favorites on that one are the western one (Wagon Wheels?) and Beat Box.
I saw an XBox pinball game in the store a few weeks back. I don't recall the title but I'm guessing it may be the only one for that system. Is that game any good?

I wish there was a way that we could share all the games we've made with Virtual Pinball online. I made one called Bump 'n' Spin that I think you'd all enjoy. It's nothing but a pattern of bumpers and spinners arranged in a kind of pachinko type layout, with extra balls in each of the four corners and just one pair of flippers in the center. I never used the flippers though. All of those bumpers would keep the ball bouncing around and racking up points almost indefinitely, and I really designed it as more of a game of chance than as a game of skill anyhow. I liked to get my friends to place bets on what the score would be when each ball was finally lost, and just let the game play itself to determine the winners. It was always alot of fun to watch it, and my friends would be cheering and booing for the ball to do what they wanted it to do, just like some kind of casino betting game that they were powerless to control but bound by their bets to react accordingly to the ball's situations. Of course we always just bet silly stuff and pretended that all those points were really dollars that they could cash in, if the score ended up within their specified range when the ball was finally lost, but we still had a blast with it. Mindless entertainment for sure, but still a very cool little game.

I really wish that I had an XBOX so I could compare it to the PC version. I'm thinking about renting it and a system for the weekend sometime so I can check it out. As far as I know, the main difference is the XBOX version has an extra table that isn't in the PC version, so of course I'm dying to check out that table. (Hyper Space) Also, the XBOX version has some kind of force feedback, right? I may have to buy an XBOX just so I can own the upgraded version of that game, but I wanna play it first before I decide if it's really worth buying a whole new system just to get that one extra pinball table.
BTW, the PC version is ultra rare, because it had an extremely limited release in the US before the developers decided to redo it as an XBOX "exclusive". The site for the game used to list all the countries that the PC version had been released in, and who was the distributor for it in each of those regions. I don't know if it was as limited everywhere else as it was in the US, but it probably was. Anyhow, the developers removed all traces of the existance of a PC version from that site after only a year of it being available, so if you ever find the PC version for sale somewhere, grab it while you can get it!

I don't mean to nitpick but Dragon's Fury and Dragon's Revenge were Genesis games, not NES. :)
Anyway, Devil's Crush and Alien Crush for the TG-16 are both excellent pinball games, and just to mention a pinball game (that I enjoy) that no one has said yet:
Rollerball - NES (Only two boards, but the music and ball physics are absolutely fantastic for the NES)

I've always hated video pinball games where the programmers insist that because it's video, they feel they have to place in features not possible in real pinball machines.
For instance, I loved the fact they made Pinbot for the NES. A great machine in its' own right, but then for the NES, they slapped in a spaceship that could destroy your flipper. ACK!
I don't mind a few video embellishments, but if it affects gameplay, I hate it. This is also why I love the Pro Pinball series. Those games are so realistic, you'd swear they could actually be built. Timeshock! is flat out awesome.

If only I had a DC... sounds like a good compilation though.
Looks like I'm adding Virtual Pinball and Crue Ball for the Genny to my want list, along with 1 or 2 of the other Pro Pinball games.
And yesterday, I looked up Gamestop.com and found out that one local GS had a copy of Pinball Of The Dead, so I went out and bought it. I played it a bit on the bus ride home and it looks fun. I'll probably spend a lot of time with it in the near future.

You'll spend a ton of time on Pinball of the Dead. It's one of those games that's perfect for bus rides, taken in short bursts here and there. What's wrong with videogames that you can play for just a few minutes? I miss those classic games.
If people wanted to share their Virtual Pinball or Pinball Construction Set boards, I guess you could always use the emulators for that, and then upload save files to a website. That way, you could keep an ongoing database of user boards.
Let's give that a shot! Go ask Santulli what he thinks about it.

Chalk up another one for NES Pinball, but on the PC side, there's a Visual Pinball homebrew that I can play all the time: The Great Rock and Roll Swindle, a Sex Pistols themed board. Very well done, and I'd put quarters into it if it actually existed.

Hey, I'm all for that, but I wouldn't know how to upload my save files from my cart. I don't have any fancy hardware for mating my consoles with my PC.
P.S.: I know of a website that might host something like that for us too, if Joe isn't interested. Check out www.pcpinball.com It's a little behind the times now, but still a great resource for alot of PC video pinball information.

Actually there are four Pro Pinball tables: The Web, Timeshock, Big Race USA, Fantastic Journey. That's the order they were released in too, so which table was left out of the DC compilation? My guess would be The Web, because that was the first game and it featured more views than the three games after it did. It still would be cool to play Pro Pinball on DC though.

I have allways loved to play endless pinballgames on videogames and computers. Here is my Pinball top 5:
1. Slam Tilt - Amiga 1200 version. Ok it's not a console, but it looks more like a console than a fullgrown computer and it's retro! ;-)
2. Pinball - NES
3. Pinball - Vectrex
4. Pinball Fantasies - Amiga CD32 version
5. Pinball Dreams - GameGear
Iron Draggon: Did you make an error stating that you own Pinball Fantasies for GameGear, are you sure you didn't mean Pinball Dreams?

WHOOPS! I sure did make an error! Thanks for pointing that one out, I just corrected it. I wish they had made Fantasies for GG. I love the GG version of Dreams because the tables are a little different than they are in all the other versions, so it would've been cool to see how they would've done Fantasies for the GG. 21st Century pinballs are among the best. I wish I hadn't waited too long on Pinball World though. They still had some new copies of it on CD Access.com for years, but I kept putting it off and now I've finally waited too long. They're all sold out of it now, so I guess I'll have to search ebay for a used copy of it now, if I want to get it. *shudders* I hate used games!
I stayed up late last night reading through all the messages on the boards at pcpinball.com and found out that there's actually Windows versions of all the Little Wing pinball games at www.littlewingpinball.com I thought that all of those were MAC only, so now I'm gonna have to save up to unlock the full versions of all of those. I downloaded them all last night, but haven't installed them yet to check out the demos. I know I'm just gonna want them more if I play them, so I'm just gonna wait until I can afford to unlock them all. And they have a new one on the way too! It looks like it's gonna be awesome. I hope they release it this month, because with the theme of it, they really should release it in time for Halloween. It's called Monster Fair. I can't wait!
BTW, can anyone post a list of all the GBA pinballs for me here, please? I'm thinking about buying on of those GBA SP Classic NES systems, and if I get one the first thing that I'm gonna want for it is every pinball game I can get! I'd like to know what all the GBC pinballs are too, and all the regular GB ones also, if anyone can remember that far back, but I'm not gonna sweat all the imports yet. I'm sure that just all the US releases will be plenty to get my collection for that system started, so for now I just wanna get pinballs for it.

GBA:
The Pinball Of The Dead
Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire
Mario Pinball Land
Muppet Pinball Mayhem

I just wanted to give a shout out for Pure Pinball by XS game for X-Box.
It came out last month and is a very nice looking and pretty good playing pinball game. As a bonus, it is only 19.99. This one looks like it *could* be a future rarity as well.
other pinball games I enjoy Pinball Quest (NES), Sonic Sinball ( I may be the only one), and The Pinball of the dead. (GBa)

My favourites -
Flipnic (PS2) - surprised no-one's mentioned this one yet.
Pinball Dreams (Amiga) - The Nightmare table was superb
Slam Tilt (PC) - Reminiscent of Pinball Dreams but souped-up
Dragon's Fury (Mega Drive) - I haven't played Devil Crush to compare yet though.
Tilt (PC/Saturn)
Revenge of the Gator (Game Boy)
There's probably more, but I can't think of them right now...

Thanks, that's a start. I know there was also High Speed: The Getaway for either GB or GBC, but I think it was GB. That was one of my favorite real pinballs of all time. I can't believe I actually had that cart and sold it when I sold my GBC in a desperate need for cash. Who knows what it was that I needed money for so badly that time, but I'm sure that it was for some other game, because it's always some other game if I get that desperate! Now let's see, I think I'll start with Pinball of the Dead & Hardcore Pinball, those two look really good, so that would be a real nice start. Agreed?

Well I've been busy buying more of the pinballs on my wish list while the rest of y'all have been doing whatever it is that you're doing now, so that's why I haven't posted in this thread again until now. Here's what all I got:
Genesis:
Psycho Pinball (import)
Saturn:
Fantastic Pinball (import)
Playstation:
Simple 1500: The Pinball 3D (import)
PC:
The Tomb Pinball
(None of them have arrived in the mail yet, but I'm anxiously awaiting them!)
Next on my list:
PS2:
Simple 2000: The Pinball X3 (import)
GBA:
Harcore Pinball
Pinball of the Dead
(And eventually a PS2 & a GBA SP Classic NES system to play them all on, of course! So I sure hope that Santa is really good to me this year! I need him!)

I really liked Pokemon Pinball... I thought it was a great idea that you could catch Pokemon in it.

LOL I dug up this topic while I was googling for some information on one of the newest pinballs in my collection, so I guess it's time for an update, and hopefully this will resurrect this topic for a while. I certainly have enjoyed it.
Anyhow, recently my order of Fantastic Pinball for the Saturn finally came in, along with Super Pinball 2 & Battle Pinball for the SNES. Yesterday I finally got the HoneyBee converter that I needed to be able to play the two SNES imports, and now I'm trying to find some more information on one of them.
So here's my question:
In Battle Pinball, there are 4 tables, and each of them is based on a Bandai character. There's Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Gundam, and one other guy who I don't recognize. He has blue hair, and he wears a suit of red armor. His table is entirely underwater, so presumably he does his thing under the sea. Does anyone have any idea who the heck this guy is? So far all I've found is another person on another forum asking the exact same question about 5 years ago, and nobody seemed to know the answer back then either. He must be somebody! I mean, the guy is in a game with 3 of the most well known and recognized Bandai characters of all time, so why doesn't anyone know who the heck he is? The game was made in 1995, so think about any real old school Bandai characters that you can remember who would have some reason to be associated with the ocean. Who the heck is this guy?
BTW, Fantastic Pinball, Super Pinball 2, & Battle Pinball are all truly awesome! I've already posted my review of Fantastic Pinball in Import Mania, and I will be posting my reviews of Super Pinball 2 & Battle Pinball there as well, just as soon as I can find out who the heck the mystery guy in Battle Pinball is!

Iron Draggon, I'll be looking forward to your review of Super Pinball 2. The original has seen a lot of playtime on my SNES.
I acquired a copy of Virtual Pinball last month; one of these days I've got to hook up my Genny and try it out.
Another one I want to pick up is Pinball Hall Of Fame. A few weeks ago, I was checking to see if the GC version had been released yet, and Gamestop had a January 20'th release date, so I decided to wait for the GC version. But I just checked Gamestop a couple days ago and now it says March 1'st is the release date. *sigh* I'm just going to pick up the PS2 version.

Well I can say this about Super Pinball 2 right now, I don't understand why it was never released in the states, or why most of the people who reviewed it said that it was a lackluster sequel. That was the impression that I got too, on the first play, but that was probably more because of all the reviews that I've read about it, saying that it wasn't a worthy successor, and that the first game wasn't really all that great either. But on the second play, after playing the original game first this time, man did I notice a world of improvements! The two games both have the same look and feel, so maybe that was part of what caused the popular consensus that there just weren't enough major improvements from one to the next. The differences are very subtle, to the point that you really have to pay close attention to notice most of them too. But once you start really paying attention to all the differences, then you see a pretty significant leap between the two games, and you really start to wonder why the second one never made it over here. The new tables do seem less exciting than the originals at first, but that's mostly because of their themes, not because of their layouts. All in all, I think it totally rocks!
As for Virtual Pinball, boy do I ever wish that the 16BIT era was the one that gave birth to memory cards! I still wish that we could come up with a way to share all our VP custom designs with each other. That would be great! I'd have Bump 'n' Spin posted for download faster than you could start flipping!
I've noticed that there's been alot of new pinball games released on all the new consoles since Pure Pinball came out on the XBOX, and needless to say I'm quite thrilled about that, even though I still don't own any of the new consoles. I'm not sure if I've kept up with all of them as they've come out though, so a list of them all here would be great. I think I have them all written down here somewhere, but I'm not sure what I did with my list. I've also been compiling a list of PS1 import pinballs. It turns out that there are several that apparently were only released in PAL format. So I have a pretty long list of all those around here somewhere for sure, probably on the same page with my list of all the new pinballs that have been coming out lately.
I still haven't managed to save up enough money for a GBA yet, and I didn't get one for Christmas either, but sometime this year I'm definitely gonna get one so I can start collecting GB/GBC/GBA pinballs too. Unless of course they come out with a DS pinball, in which case I'll have to have a DS for sure. I can see how they could make a great pinball experience on that system very easily. Just use the top screen for the backboard and a video display for the video modes, and use the bottom screen for the table itself! It would totally rule, and I'm sure that eventually somebody will figure it out and do it. Are you listening to me, Nintendo? I would buy a DS in a heartbeat if you'd make a good pinball game for it, so get some designers busy on it for me, please!

Pinball Fantasies was also released for the Atari Jaguar. The Jaguar version is probably my favorite video pinball game.

They were developed by the same company, Kaze. You might want to check out their import Saturn release "Necronomicon". They also developed Power Rangers Zeo Full Tilt Pinball for the Playstation.

Psycho Pinball was released for the Megadrive in Europe. There was also a superior PC version that was released in the US.

Hey! I just found the perfect resource for all the latest and most up to date information on every video pinball game ever made for any Nintendo system! (Well, for domestic releases anyhow. Sadly, import releases aren't included.)

For anyone interested in KAZe, you can check out their official site:

They've got box shots of every game they've worked on.
Their English site is here:

I finally got my reviews of Super Pinball 2 & Battle Pinball posted. They're in Import Mania under SFC/SNES import pinball games (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50827). Also, if you're looking for my previous reviews of Fantastic Pinball, Pinball Graffiti, or Necronomicon, they're in Import Mania under Saturn import pinball games (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41655). If you can help clear up the mystery about who the 4th character in Battle Pinball is for sure, please let me know. I'm still not 100% certain that I know his true identity, but I'm 99% sure that he is indeed who I think he is. I hope you enjoy my reviews!

 Virtual Pinball was easily my favorite pinball as a kid...stupidly, I sold it off...twice. I've been looking for another copy for like three years now, and have NEVER come across it in the wild...plenty of Herzog Zweis (never complete though) and ToeJam & Earls...but no Virtual Pinballs.
Sonic Spinball also holds a special place in my heart...though that one's probably not too immensely popular among the real pinball afficionados. ;) Pinball Dreams on the Game Gear was good, too.

Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection is the best console pinball game I have ever played. Now if we include computer games, then "Epic Pinball" takes it handily. If you haven't ever played it, download it along with your favorite DOS emulator! Also, all of the "Pro Pinball" series for PSX is top notch.

If it makes you feel any better, I have yet to come across either of the Toe Jam & Earl games in the wild, and I've been looking for months. They're on the top of my Genny want list. Kinda odd.
As I said earlier in the thread, Sonic Spinball is one of my favorite console pinball games. While I don't consider it a true pinball game, I enjoy it for what it is.

I love Sonic Spinball too. It's not exactly true pinball, but it's definitely one of the most innovative pinball concepts of all time. I'm so glad that Sonic Team decided to expand on the ideas that they pioneered with Sonic as a pinball in the previous Sonic games, and just make the ultimate Sonic pinball game!

:) It's a sad time in which we live. I went inside an arcade at a local mall, and they only had ONE pinball machine. STAR WARS EPISODE I by Williams. I put alot of quarters into it. Playing pinball on a console, PC, or handheld just isn't the same. That being said, I do like RUINER PINBALL and PINBALL FANTASIES for the JAGUAR :P

Sonic Spinball (Genesis) - Casino Night Zone in Sonic 2 suggested that it was only a matter of time before Sega placed Sonic in a pinball game of his own.
DigitalSpace,
SONIC SPINBALL is a great pinball game. In addition to being released on the Genesis, it is also part of THE SONIC MEGA COLLECTION for the GameCube.
THE PINBALL OF THE DEAD, for the GBA, is also a great video pinball game from Sega.
POKEMON PINBALL (GBC) is additive, although the ball is one of the largest I've seen in a pinball game.
MARIO PINBALL LAND is a fun one to play as well.
I also like the TOWER table of RUINER PINBALL for the Jaguar.

I still have yet to get that, but it's on my want list. Also, I've heard the GCN version is supposed to be released on the 20th.
THE PINBALL OF THE DEAD, for the GBA, is also a great video pinball game from Sega.
I got that a few months ago and it has become one of my favorite GBA games.

Alright, I figured I'd give this a bump since there are a few more games I've played and enjoyed since my last post:
Pinball Hall Of Fame (PS2, GCN, XBox) - I got the PS2 version, and I'm glad to say it did not disappoint. A nice selection of tables provide a good look at how pinball evolved over the years.
Super Pinball 2 (SNES) - I spent quite some time with this one on an emulator. It truly is a shame that it never made its way to the states. It's just as fun as the first one.
Pinball Dreams (SNES) - Once you figure out how to keep the ball in play, it's pretty good. Sweet table designs too. Now if I could only hunt down a copy of Pinball Fantasies...
Pinball Dreams (GB) - The Game Boy version of Pinball Dreams holds its own and is one of the best pinball games available on the portable, right behind...
Kirby's Pinball Land (GB) - Kirby was a perfect fit for a pinball game. I like the ability to jump back into the playfield to avoid losing a ball, although I haven't quite mastered it yet.
Patriotic Pinball (PSX) - This one features two excellently-designed tables. The Road Trip Coast To Coast one is my favorite of the two. The only thing I don't like is that you have to reset the game if you want to switch to the other table.
Flipnic: Ultimate Pinball (PS2) - I've had a blast with this one. Great concept. I'd love to see a sequel, but I wouldn't be surprised if that never happened.
i'm still enjoying pinball for the vic LOL

The correct answer to the best console pinball games would be.
1. Galactic Pinball - virtual boy best bonus games in a pinball game neat themes and sounds of the past.
2. Pinball hall of fame gottlleib collection. Nice real tables great graphics and sounds its nice to have them explain the goals of a table as well i hope they come out with another collection.
3. Pinball dreams amiga. Great as a kid i am not sure how it holds up now.
Didnt care for pinball of the dead ,sonic party pinball, kind of boring for my take.
When i get a ds later i want to try metroid pinball.
