I work in a Media Play, where they play the ad for this game in the demo kiosk CONSTANTLY. Worst of all, it's turned up so loud, I can hear it on the other side of the store. It might be a good game, but I don't see how this will EVER live up to the hype.

I have the same problem with Goldeneye that have with Halo. Goldeneye got old fast. With Halo, the process was of getting bored was even quicker due to the oversaturation of FPS's that most people were experiencing at that time.

SAME HERE. Didn't really like Halo as well. So could really give a shit about Halo 2. And with all this hype it is going to be hard to live up to it.

This is off topic but the most anticipated game to me is GOLDENEYE!! When I reserved it tonight the manager of the store I went to said the game was awesome!! By far the best game of the year, to him. He managed to get his hands on some kind of demo of it.

What? Goldeneye had variety in spades, plus the cheat codes kept it going. No sense arguing against your opinion, but it's a fact the game had a ton of variety in play - more than most any FPS since, I'd wager (and I've played a lot of them).

Back on topic...I read through XBN some. I've started to feel really strongly in recent times that Halo was very much a woeful game, and the constantly high reviews it gets makes me afraid to pick up any game for any modern console in fear of the consequences.

That said, Halo 2 is on track to completely wipe the floor with Halo, possibly DOOM ]I[ - and quite likely Half-Life 2 as well. We'll have to wait and see, but you have to admit not a lot of folks can make a good FPS these days.

Well, saying that would be like saying that all FPS's are the exact same.

I for one, don't like Halo but LOVE GOLDENEYE!! To me, maybe it just has to do with the levels or characters or something. But to me, that HALO can't even compare to GOLDENEYE. But first person shooters are probably my best and most played genre.
Can't wait for the release of GOLDENEYE: ROGUE AGENT.

I never actually played Halo, but to be honest, it looks about as appealing as playing E.T. for the 2600. I am not a huge FPS fan, so that may have something to do with it, but I still play 4-player Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and have a blast. Popularity has absolutely nothing to do with it - I am eagerly awaiting the releases of GTA: San Andreas and Gran Turismo 4, which should both outsell Halo 2 by a nice margin. Sorry, Halo does not look like my type of game, and no one I know has any interest in it either.

Tis called immersion my friend. Makes the game feel more realistic when your NOT a walking armory. Halo is a good game, the only reason i didnt like it personally was because the floaty physics got to me (im a jumpy jumpy person).

Right about here is where i usually say that RTCW: ET pwns all, but a funny thing happened the other night while i was playing ET on my fav Aus server.. A player with the name Bratwurst and a D*P tag came on, so if it was you bratwurst, ET rocks and give it time to grow on you :D

(This is true, I don't know. But from everythign I've heard from Bungie, this game is going have an awesome multiplayer, a good engine, more sweet story, and I don't see anything else that's come out so far this year that will be able to top it.)

I think a lot of you that don't understand the hate for Halo and the love for Goldeneye are missing one important aspect of this argument:

Goldeneye was on a Nintendo system, and thus can do no wrong.

GTA may be considered a system-seller for the PS2...and then again it wasn't the system-seller. I didn't hear of anybody saying they were going to run out and get a PS2 for the game, especially as it's available on the PC and XBox as well. Another difficulty here is that Halo was a system launch title; Halo wasn't.

My thought is that the closest thing to a "Halo" on the PS2 looks to be either the Area 51 game or Killzone.

The last megahyped game i bought before Fable was Golden Eye but that was done tastefully. It wasnt an in youre face WE ARE THE BEST WERE ARE GAME OF THE YEAR. KICK ASS IN THE GAME AND KICK PEOPLES ASS TO GET IT.

I will not get Halo 2 unless it comes packaged with something or is cheap Unless i get the Promo in which case both of the other statements are false. :D

OK...so it is the best shooter for X-box....and? Is it my personal best FPS ever? of the year? God...of the month? NO! There are so many good FPS games out there. Halo is not bad - but compared to other "non x-box" FPS games...its just an avrage (or below) game.

I haven't played Project Gotham Racing, but I tried out the demo for Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, and it was nothing special. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is a bit of fun, and one of the best games around at the time...but again, I'm not going insane thinking about the time playing it I'll be missing while asleep. It's a good deal of fun, but a GOTY? Shouldn't be close. Just another type of platformer, with worse levels but much cooler moves (that does count for a lot, though!). I just mentioned DoA3, too.

I played Airforce Delta Storm on the 'Box more than all the rest of those combined, so what do I know?

Whose game of the year are we talking about, anyway? A magazine's? Cthulhu forbid, IGN's? I don't care how rabid a following it has, there is no way Halo could be better than Metal Gear Solid 2. Unless it automatically endows anybody who buys it with a lifetime unlimited supply of strawberry mousse Pocky, it can't come close to matching the grandeur of a game with a bisexual Romanian vampire, a severed limb capable of possessing its host, and a batshit AI that quotes TS Eliot. It just can't.

But that's all opinion. Which is all the whole thing is, really. :)

Yes, I suppose compared to the N64's launch lineup of a whole 2 games, that is quite a bit to remember.

You're a fool if you think I'm an MS fanboy who thinks Halo is the best game ever. I know it's got flaws, but that still puts it above GE. I'm being realistic here-even with the deadlines that rushed Halo, Bungie still put together a fun game, with a good engine, good AI, and a good story. Even they were surprised it was as popular as it ended up becoming, and there's no doubt in my mind that with Halo 2, with the time they wanted for the first game to finish it, they'll make an exceptional console FPS. I mean, look at Goldeneye-Rare was rushed when they made it, and it was great-I played the hell out of it. Then they made Perfect Dark, which, if at least on multiplayer, was far superior to Goldeneye. And considering I played the hell out of Halo, I'm expecting the same effect, for me, as PD had. But as it is, Halo is on my personal top 10 games list, so it bugs the hell out of me to see people rip on it constantly on this site.

GameSpy's PC section - whom I usually place a great deal of trust in - said that the PC port was quite possibly the greatest FPS of all time, by many peoples' standards.

Lots of folks have said Halo was the best game in history.

That said, I could care less about Jet Grind Radio Future. At least so far.

I'm a huge fan of Halo (wow, what a surprise by the replies in this thread, eh?), but I don't think it was that bad a game (I didn't get to play it as long as some of you guys, maybe that's why). Someone early on brought up Goldeneye as superior to Halo, and I just wanted to bring my opinion on that. A few of the things I liked about Goldeneye compared to Halo:

1. Goldeneye was James Bond, and I like James Bond. Master Chief just wasn't very deep from what I remember.
2. Goldeneye ISN'T that realistic. Any game where I have enough space to hold a sniper rifle, a rocket launcher, an AK-47, and however-many other guns, and can use all of them, I like. The more guns, the better. I don't want a video game to be "realistic"; I want a game where I get to shoot a bunch of stuff and watch shit blow up.

At least in my opinion, one game being Nintendo and the other Microsoft has very little to do with it. I'll admit, it does a tiny bit... but not enough for me to bash Microsoft.

Whoever said Xbox and PS2 are the top two consoles knows nothing... worldwide PS2 and GC kill Xbox. Still. It wasn't THAT long ago that GC was outselling Xbox in America, either.

People need to settle down. And get some objectivity. I can't stand Halo, (I've hated nearly every FPS I played) and have disliked the Xbox as a whole since it came out, but I'm not bigoted enough to fail to recognize Halo as a very high-quality game.

Halo was kinda fun sometimes. But I prefer Fable when it comes to X-box games. But then again X-box is my least favorite new console. But Im slowly moving towrd buying one because I cant keep fom playing Shenmue II anymore. Well back to topic Holo II might be alright and I dont dout that it will do well but it wont be my kinda game.

halo 2 should be good but i think it will boil down to how well the online multiplayer is implemented. goldeneye is the best multiplayer game, along with saturn bomberman. the thing that kills star wars battlefront is all the guys on the online multiplayer just shoot anything that moves, even if we are both empire soldiers, they shoot me anyways. :puke:
they dont even look at what they are shooting, so playing halo2 with 12 dozen guys like that should be interesting challenge

It turned into a I hate Halo / fanboy thread. Granted everybody is entitled to thier own opinions , but to say Halo sucked is a pretty shallow statement.

Good game IMO and Halo 2 will be better with alot of new stuff and fixed flaws :-P

Not if good reasons are given! As you said, we're in the realm of opinions here, not facts, but I stand by my conviction that it would've been much better had the team been given enough time to work on it. I personally love Halo, but I'm not blinded by these pretty new graphics. I can play something that looks like it came out of a dead rat's eye as long as it plays well, and there's a few areas in Halo that are lauded for being "the best ever" that I find lacking. Namely multiplayer and story. However, count me out of Halo bashing.

I'm just trying to bring the "you said Halo isn't that great! Going against the opinions of everybody is wrong and evil!" camp back down to earth. Of course, I'm seeing that my reasoning has flaws too; so I'm happy for the responses I've gotten! Well, as long as I don't piss anybody off, of course.

If it helps, I'm not pissed, I know Halo has places where it could be much improved, which is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Halo 2 as much as I am.

I do think the statement that GE was Bond does say alot though-People know James Bond, they know his background, his enemies, and Goldeneye was, after all, a movie as well. Halo didn't have any of those luxuries-hell, you don't even learn much of anything about the Chief in-game. I guess that's one of the reasons Perfect Dark never was as popular as Goldeneye...

Another reason for Goldeneye not being as popular was that, at least for myself, I had different priorities than putting my money into that game - I was still perfectly happy with Goldeneye, most importantly. That, and I barely knew it existed until maybe a year after it was released (but my memory's sort of shaky on that account). When I got a N64 a year or so into the system's release, there were luckily a few good titles on the shelves - though I emphasize "few" :P

For the people who come on this thread and said " its not my type of game so I don't like it" I respect that. They admit it could be the best game ever, but they don't care because its not their type of game. But you hate it because people like it more than you. So I am going to assume that if people dislike games you like then you like the game even more? And i agree with some people on this topic, if the great almighty Nintendo made this game, most of the haters would be asking there parents for a halo theme party for their birthday. Everybody would have to wear master cheif party hats and then they would go in the basement and run around with flashlights and cap guns.

You are right, I am sorry for taking this OT. I think Microsoft has to be cocky about Halo 2. Because if halo 2 is a bust its going to piss off a lot of Xbox owners who have been waiting for a long time for this game to come out.
