I thought these things were supposed to be rare or something? I just picked these up for $10 each at a local thrift. They all work, too. Other than being blue, they look just like any other Playstation. Hm, *shrug*.

I was gonna ask the same exact thing.

Um yeah. I've got one of those too! It's the one in the middle of that stack :)

So....uh....wait...are these things rare? :eek 2:

I thought there was only a certain number of them made?

Okay, okay, the jig is up ... just funnin' you guys. :)

Yes, they are developer units. Yes, I paid a lot more than $10 each for them, and no, I didn't get them from a thrift store. It's been raining all day here and I didn't get to go thrifting so I thought I'd make up my own story to pass time on a rainy weekend afternoon.

Oh, and yes, they're all spoken for. ;) DP, yours is actually the 2nd one from the top -- I've been playing Thrill Kill on it all afternoon, testing it out. :D

I sure will.

4 of them are DTL-H1001's and one is a 1101.

What's the difference? I know the debug unit product codes (looking at my lovely debug PS1 right now heh) but don't know much on the developer units...

Do you mean what's the difference between dev ones and non dev ones, or what's the difference between the different model numbers?

Between dev units and norman units, dev units have 8 meg of ram vs. 2, and have no copy protection. And, are blue.

Between the model numbers, I don't know, other than some of the ones I have had a different power supply than others. Some use the normal cable, and some need a power supply.

OOooooohhh

I'd like that 1101 model one should things become unspoken. :D

When did you get these, and how in the heck did you pull a coup to get all five of those at once?

I could be wrong, but, I think that the "debug/developer name is synamuous (sp?) with itself. Basically just two names for the same thing, in so that these units are held by Developers, to Debug their games.

Since they have 8 megs of ram do any released or beta games support the extra ram? I don't know how you would be able to tell though. :hmm:

Blue (eg. debug, developer's unit etc) is unregionalised in encoding for games, meaning it performs the same as a chipped machine. However there's a unit for each region: H1000 is Japan, H1001 is USA and H1002 is Europe (which I have). Japanese and US units output NTSC and European ones output PAL. So if you want to play games of the other video format, you need someway to display it that can handle both.

In my case, I just use an RGB cable to my TV. RGB has no PAL or NTSC coding, so any NTSC game I run on my unit will work 100% fine. Not too sure how you Americans could run PAL games properly over there, unless you got an RGB monitor or something similar. That's the beauty of RGB.

My question was directed at what is the difference between H1001 and H1101? I'm assuming they are both US units, so must be something to prompt a different product number...

The 2000s are official dev kits handed to developers, and the 3000s are Net Yaroze units.

For the record, as was mentioned here, I paid £20 ($35) for mine :D

The guy who sold me these also has a DTL-H1202 for sale, and says it's green and PAL. Do you have any information on this? I've never heard of a green one before.

I don't think so -- I think it was more for running debugging tools and the like.

I'd assume that its just a model upgrade as is most of the usual Systemnumber pushes. Possibly a slight tweak in the Operation systems. Flack, is it possible to get a pic of the back of the unit, for comparision to a 1001 model?

The backs all look the same. Notice that some have the normal power supply, while others have a different style. Maybe the 1101 all had the newer style, and someone swapped one out on one of those 1001s?

Flack, green is PAL, blue is NTSC as far as I know. And if you have an extra one to sell, I of course would love to pay ya for one :-).

The unit I have is running on a standard PS/PS2 power cord. Ive not seen PSX's with the ac adaptor before. Thought that they had the components all dropped onto the main board, aleviating the need to have the adaptor as part of the plug in unit. So does that mean that you have the power adaptors for them as well?
