I'm thinking about collectiong for N64 (does anyone else here do that?) , and I'm wondering if there are any known rare games for the system ? I want to collect for it , because it looks like a complete U.S. collection would be rather easy to get and wouldn't cost a ton. Also , exactly how many games are there for it.

Yup, go to the online Rarity Guide, click on "N64" and leave all other fields blank. Click Submit (or Enter or whatever) and a list of all N64 games - including rarity values - will pop up. And, lest you get whiny as to the size, it's only 4 pages long - easy to sort through for the rarer titles.

And if you ask for one of us to make a list for you, we'll give you a wedgie. The work's been done for you. You just gotta take 3 minutes and look at some lists yourself.

There are no extremely rare N64 games. At least not at this point. The rarest are probably the rental-exclusive titles, but since there is next to no demand for them, you won't have to pay much. It'll be a lot harder to get a complete copy for those, though.

Harvest Moon 64 is easy the most valuable game, but its price seem to be (temporarily?) dropping a little. It still won't put a huge hole in your pocket like a Stadium Events or Panzer Dragoon Saga would.

As for the total number of games, isn't it around 350? I always find out and procede to completely forget. :/

I'm starting to give the N64 a little more attention myself and my biggest obstacle has been finding certain games that are complete.

This is one platform that is still very affordable to start collecting for.

In my area N64 games are more expensive overall than dreamcast and psone.

Aussie2B , thank you for your reply. I wasn't asking for a list, because I already checked the online rarity guide, I was just wondering what other collectors had to say about rare N64 games and collecting N64 (because it seems like nobody does it).

Ogre Battle 64 seems like its worth some good cash too, for that matter.

Somewhere closer to 250... I forget too.

Clayfighter Sculpter's Cut is generally accepted to be the rarest of the N64 games, though not the most valuable.

Star Craft 64 kinda bounces back and forth in price range

Harvest Moon

Clay Fighter Sculpter's Cut (I've seen this at $60-70 lately)

Ogre Battler 64

Spider-Man (On a good day I can get it for $15, but it's not that rare yet)

Scooby Doo: Classic Creepy Capers <-- this last release title is getting harder to find, but here's a hint, it's in a black cartridge

Dr. Mario 64 (Can't stress that enough)

Monopoly I've always had trouble finding at a good price

Bomberman The 2nd Attack (I noticed an incease in price on this one)

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine <-- been a while since I've seen this

Goemon's Great Adventure (I think this is part 2 of the Mystical Ninja games on 64, but I have seen an increase on price as well)

Fighter's Destiny 2 <--- havent seen this in a while

Killer Instinct Gold (Big demand for this, sitting at $24.99 and up)

CastleVania: Legacy of Darkness (Of course, it's Special Edition!)

and that's all the titles I have heard off and on that many have claimed that are "rare"

Not much really, unless it's sealed. You might get $20 for a loose one if you're lucky. Prices are down. It's still a cool find.

What do you mean by that? o_O

Is the Sculptor's Cut really getting that expensive? Is that for a complete copy? I noticed a copy with cart and box sold for about $20 on eBay not that long ago.

Dr. Mario 64 has gone from $30-35 lately

Sculptor (loose or in the box) has been insane lately

Well, I'm glad I was able to pick up a copy of Dr. Mario 64 with the box for $10 this past summer. :) For that matter, I'm glad I loaded up on a lot of N64 games over the summer. I'm kind of kicking myself for leaving Dr. Mario at my mom's house, though; I get cravings to play it now and then... Definitely a very nice remake. :)

Earlier this year most N64 stuff around here was in the $15-20 range, but now I see a lot of stuff priced at $10 and under.

The priciest stuff (not to be confused with rarity) will be the Mario titles (Mario Party 1-3, Mario Tennis, Golf, etc). On average I see those go for anywhere between $15-20 in the wild. Another pricey one is Paper Mario. I paid $20 for a loose cart and if you can get one for that much or less, you got a nice deal. And of course, there's Harvest Moon 64. I paid $15 for a loose cart last month, but I don't know if I was just lucky or what. LOL

Complete/boxed games aren't too hard to find, but go at it now.

I've heard that Stunt Racer 64 is another R5 title to watch out for. It was a rental exclusive as well. Gamecrazy is the best place to find this, but only because hardly anybody would pay the $29.99 they charge for it.

Oh, and that's another thing - if you want cheap N64 stuff, Gamecrazy is not the place. It's likely you'll find it cheaper elsewhere.

Good luck!

I don't know that they are exactly the rarest - but Paper Mario and Mario party 3 have going for a lot lately.

did harvest moon not get uk release?

I believe it did, but would have to check. Paper Mario was a VERY late release in Europe and now it's worth $50+ complete for PAL version.

Speaking of Harvest Moon 64, what would a sealed US copy be worth? Got one you see, but haven't opened it to play it! Wondering if I should leave it sealed here heh...

Definitely leave it sealed. If you want to play it, buy an already opened copy. I don't think now would be the greatest time to sell, but in the past I saw sealed copies easily pull $80 if not more. However, back then a complete copy would normally sell for at least $60, but now they seem to be pulling in quite less...

I just sold my complete boxed Paper Mario on Amazon for $50 -- the same price I paid for it. ;)

Some of the toughest ones?

Indiana Jones....it was a Blockbuster Video rental exclusive. Our local BB has one in rental....they won't/ can't sell until Head Office authorizes an official clearout!!!

Powerpuff Girls Chemical X-Traction (second to last release).....Aidyn Chronicles First Mage.......Ogre Battle.....Tony Hawk 3 (the last N64 game released)

as digitalspace mentioned... and i am sure kevincure would back up...stunt racer 64 is the rarest n64 cart. Still can be found quite easily though.

Others to watch out for in the future - Beastwars Transmetal and ISS 2000, both rental exclusives. ISS 2000 is a bitch to find... esp complete.

Also keep an eye on tony hawk pro skater 3. Seems that the last game released for a system always holds some value.

Hook me up with a copy too, I'll pay ya

as for Tony Hawk 3, I've seen a few copies of it at Wal-Mart still (3 to be exact) I wonder how much it is

In my finds, Indiana Jones is the easiest of the rental only titles you can find. I've seen quite a few of those around.

oh, and the Game Crazys here have their N64 games in the $7-15 range.

The only other title that hasn't been mentioned and, imo, will be pretty rare in the future is Razor Freestyle Scooter. This was also a rental only title, which is common among rare games in the future.

Luckily I have mine sealed. :)

just start collecting the GOOD games first. there are about 20-30 (im to braindead to actually count) and they are actually worth paying and playing. rest you can get later, rare sucky games are hardly ever expensive.

another one to add

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker <-- now that's hard to find at times

I just scored Tony Hawk 3 last night. Box is battered, I had to tape it closed, and no instructions. It was a rental unit that was put up for sale. Had that anti-theft metallic sticker on it, which was a bitch to remove.

Even then, I paid good money for it. Now to see if I can get the rental copy of Indiana Jones. (doubtful)

I completely agree with the last two...though I got a sealed Paper Mario for like $30 from a member of the boards here :)

I am gonna say that I wouldn't be at all surprised if the two Castlevania games go up in price over time...collectors of that series (like me, but...well) boost prices to insane amounts. Compared to Harvest Moon, hard to say.

Majora's Mask should be worth a pretty penny in the future as well.

I saw Tonky Hawk 3 and a Madden football game at my Wal-Mart before. I think they were like $29.99 each. Is that a good price for them?

I passed up on $4.99 beat-up loose carts of Powerpuff Girls Chemical X-Traction and Indiana Jones before. I wonder if it was a bad decision? o_O I had so many better games tempting me. :P
