Is belong to us?!
I'll be running those through IDServe (Go: grc.com) when I get home...wierdness.
Funny thing is pretty much nobody cares about MP2 (myself included, even though I've got a GC and think the game should be great fun), but somehow Nintendo is doing this...I guess it could be for real, lol.
You know the guys who plot these things over their underlings (who tend not to be fanboys and could care less as long as they get some swag and a paycheck...mostly the paycheck though) are going to be 90 and still rallying in Mario's corner LOL

Funny how they're making a reference to a non-Nintendo game. :)

Including an AYB reference leads me to expect that the folks inside Nintendo are happily tapping away on Tangerine iMacs while sipping Mr Green sodas...in any case it's just bad form to make a professional reference to AYB, I mean really.

Yeah, All Your Base references are just sooooooooo passe. They should really get with the times and do a bananaphone allusion or something.
They take a couple of potshots (less at Halo, more at Microsoft) on channel51.org also. Personally I think the viral marketing thing is getting a little too commonplace to be really effective anymore (channel51 is pretty damn obviously an advertisement for a game) but at least Nintendo is trying to play with the new rules, and I applaud them for that.

It's lame that they are using AYB THIS late in the game, but it's still funny. I'm on the Metroid side of this thing anyway (ie, I dont care about Halo2).

It's about how Halo 2 has much higher production values than MP2.
I mean, any boob (er...no offense to our favorite leading lady, of course! Think of it as...the dreaded manboob) could've gone out and bought those domain names and stuck a $2 JPEG with some really bad text on there (sorry Samus, the armor's still hot, I hope you understand!).
See, here's what's seperating Nintendo and Microsoft/Bungie.
Microsoft/Bungie: Awesome advertising, they understand their audience and they think of things that they themselves think are awesome and expound upon those ideas. It's this Halo's version of the Cortana Letters, but for the masses this time.
Nintendo: Knee jerk "oops we weren't there in time, RALLEY TEH FANBOYES" reaction.
Score: Halo 2 sells out, and Nintendo doesn't know who they're selling to.
By the way, ran the URLs through ID Serve, here's what I got:
IP of Nintendo.com's server: 216.74.145.75 Server type is Apache, content encoding through gzip, Node is swebe1
IP of ilovekeys.com: 216.174.104.22 Server type is a Fedora distro of Apache, and no content encoding or node info was returned.
So basically, while it's quite possible this is somehow something from Nintendo itself, none of the info really matches up very well.

Ilovebees was an "Alternate Reality Game" that the Bungie people had set up. What this means is that it is essentially an interactive game where the players solve puzzles, answer phones, and just work with the in-game characters to tell the story. It's a complex story, but the basic gist is that an AI from the year 2552 was blown apart by the activation of an alien artifact found by a human ship. Part of her ended up in the "www.ilovebees.com" server in the past, and the other part ended up on the computer of a kid named Jersey in 2552. The two halves were still aware of each other, and as a result, the events in the future were "sent" back in time to now for people to hear. It was very well written, very well acted, and a blast in general.
Nintendo throwing together some sites making fun of the whole thing, or sites doing the phony businesses thing like they did with perfect dark, just makes them look inferior, and they shouldn't have bothered.

i remember seeing something on tv about ilovebees. it looked super cool, but reminded me of the movie "the man who knew too little". don't get me wrong, it is a badass idea, i was just unsure about it

A game that sucks. I own it; it's nothing special.
Well, some people disagree with me. When there's still Raiden, R-Type, and frankly a few hundred other shooters (Image Fight, Rayforce, GYNOUG anyone?) that kick this game's ass in every way imaginable...I don't see the need to waste time on it.
Oh, you still say "I gotta check this out! I'll be laughing at least part of the time!" Sure, you'll be laughing right up until you see the horrible soda can enemy ship graphics, and then the laughter will CHOKE and DIE in your throat.
Name's Zero Wing.
By the way, I hear the PC-Engine CD-ROM version has some nicer stuff than the Euro/Japanese Mega Drive cart (though no Engrish - only the Euro home cart version's got that) such as intro sequences...if that means anything to you, so be it.
