Joe, can you put those first three as my new room of doom pics?
Used to be a garage long time ago (new house, we move in in april) but the previous owners added heat to this room, and built a 2 car garage.
I had to put the ceiling, walls, etc... in, and build a subfloor on sloped concrete (joy).
Just about done now, just need to re-arrange and tidy up, but that's an ongoing project for everyone, so I figured I would at least get some pics up and go from there since I haven't updated my pics in 1-2 years, heh. Lemme know what you think!!

I really like the compartments for the consoles thats an awesome idea. I cant really do anything to show off my collection right now since I live in a small dorm at college. Maybe in January when I graduate.

Nice work Toby. The custom shelving and everything really makes your stuff look like a comprehensive collection, while still staying ready for use. Looks like you can up and play just about anything there in a matter of seconds.

May I ask what happened? In your plans it appears that both are going to be 36"? The pic shows them at seperate heights. Just curious, not hatin on ya, those are awesome. :)

It's one of the only rooms in the house with carpet, so it kinda is part of my collection :)
It's only clean because I JUST finished building it, trust me.
The different heights - I have no idea. It's a good 2 inches off or so it looks like. I think I cut a set of pieces wrong, it actually works out better because now it can hold my cases for manuals/overlays up, like a real sturdy bookend.
And yes, everything is ready to use (once I get the TV hooked up) the controllers are below ion the drawers, and the plugs/av cables are all arranged under the TV (that's where the real mess will be)

Hot Damn! (with a capital H + D!)
That room is awesome! I like the red walls and roof, they add to the room very nicely. And Soul Edge looks great there too. Man Im so jealous....of everything, I dont have much room, but then again, my collection is far from that.
Congrats on the new room.
The consoles are really nicely laid out too....drool... :-P

I don't know what I'm more amazed about. Your awesome collection of systems and games, or the fact that you needed to make a blueprint to store them.

That is so amazing.X_x
Love the shelf design. Love the paint.
I had a design for shelves like that before but the idea fell thru because i didn't have enough money and because i didn't have enough stuff and i was like 13. LOL
After seeing something so well laid out as that i will start planing out something like that again.
Thanks for the inspiration :D
2 questions
How big is the room? And what did you use for the shelves?
It looks like it's just pressure treated pine.

very nice work. well planned.
but...all those games and that ncie room and you only have that tiny TV to enjoy it on?
Sylentwulf
11-19-2004, 07:11 AM
The TV is just a placeholder right now, I have a 27" coming sometime soon. Right now ALL of my gaming is done upstairs on my 47".
The wood is just regular pine (not PT, which would be disgusting)
The room is a WHOPPING 24*12 in size, making it the biggest room in the house. The wife gets a 10*10 room for another kid and ALL of my stuff the hell out of her way, so she's happy.
The big thing you can't see is those plastic drawer/cabinets have well over 2000 games in the,. For example, I only need 3 odyssey 2 games for the complete set, it's just that you can't see them. All of the boxes on the bookcases are empty. One of those plastic drawers holds something like 125 atari2600/7800/coleco carts each (and they're ALL VERY full)

You sir - have done and amazing job with that setup - very, very nice work! As everyone has mentioned already - love the console display! I will be stealing some of your ideas when I finally my basement (might be multi-leveled, I've got 15 foot ceilings! Think I'm going with some retro neon light strips)
I don't know if this has been mentioned but will all the consoles be hooked up? If so, what kind of switcher do you plan to use? (How?!!)
Like the last pic - what version of version of Visio did you use to draw that diagram out with?
;)

I actually have the pro version of visio, and still HIGHLY prefer to draw things out on a piece of graph paper, so much easier. I built my mame cab CP with visio though.
All systems have their video cable tucked behind them if they're proprietary (newer consoles) or already hooked up to the TV for older ones (Atari through NES RCA Cable)
I tried the hook everything up at once thing one time. It's just a lot more of a pain in the ass. Get yourself a TV with front inputs and you're fine.

Nice room, sir, but it would be better if it had some video games in it.
You must store your stock elsewhere, with all that stuff for sale all the time?

DISGUSTINGLY ENOUGH, all of my for sale stuff is in the basement taking up a 12*12 room.... almost none of it is in my gameroom (except my work desk/computer)

SylentWulf ,
Did you make the Wood casing for your clear plastic tupperwear shelfs yourself ? I saw something like that before and really wanted to get one just like it,but I couldn't find it. So I ended up buying a cheap plastic version (it looks just like that, but is only 3 shelfs high, and not 6 high like yours is).
Sylentwulf
11-20-2004, 08:44 AM
Yep, I had the ones that were three high, adn they didn't stack well at ALL, so I built 6 high shelves that were much more sturdy.
